I've heard for a while that the Swan and Dolphin offer discounts to teachers, military and some others. I can't find any information on it. Can anyone tell me how much of a discount they usually offer?

I called to check for our May 2011 Trip and the Teacher rate was almost the same (within a few dollars) to the Government Rate that is posted on their website. Basically, the discount was a little less than 25%.

Tell them you wish to use the Teacher code. We just booked the Swan for February vacation and got the swan for $189 plus tax and resort fee (good for presidents week). The rack rate on site was $249.

The Dolphin usually runs $20 a night cheaper. I know folks who have gotten as low as $149 for Dolphin and $169 for Swan on the code depending when you go.

1 BR suites at the Dolphin are also included in the Teacher rate. I called today to inquire about August 2011. The 1 BR suite is about 900 square feet and has a bedroom with bath attached to a parlor area that has a bathroom, king murphy bed and pullout sofa. Think the suite could sleep 6-8. The quote I got was $299 per night (about $350 after all the taxes).

we booked--and then cancelled (switched to AKL) a room at the dolphin for mid may 2011. the teacher rate (i'm a teacher) was $159/night. not bad AT ALL. we'd be staying there in late may (long story--doing a split trip with my mom and then with my husband) but for a convention of some sort that has ALL rooms at BOTH resorts booked for one of our nights (grumble!).

Thanks everyone! I never even considered the Swan and Dolphin before but now I might. I know that they are not "Disney-owned" but is there any differences between staying there and staying at the "Disney" resorts? Can you book packages?

When staying at the Swan/Dolphin you do not get ME from the airport to the your hotel. You do get EMH, but you cannot add any of the Disney Dining plans to your reservation (so no package). You do get free Disney transportation to the parks. If you are looking at staying at a "deluxe" hotel, the prices for the Swan/Dolphin are very reasonable and the location is great.

The main differences that I've discovered are no ME (we don't use it), no DDP, and you can't charge to your room except at the Swan or Dolphin. For our short June trip, I was able to save almost $700 by switching from a standard view at BWI to a resort view/balcony/guaranteed king at the Dolphin. That $700 will make up for not being able to use the DxDDP, and I got everything I wanted for about $230 a night (with taxes and resort fees) as opposed to $401.:cool1: To me it's like having my cake and eating it too...I get to stay in my preferred Epcot location without paying Disney Deluxe prices.:)

This! :woohoo:

Thanks for the info! I will definitely look into staying there for our upcoming trips. The location along with a discount makes it very tempting!

I've done a quote on a travel agent link I found on these boards and it is working out the same as the AAA rate for August 2011, are the rates likely to drop further or am I doing it wrong? :confused3

Call the official Swan and Dolphin line tell them you're looking for the teachers (TEACHER) rate. They will tell you the rate.

No (unfortunately) you are doing it correctly. The Teacher/Nurse/Gov't discounts are not as generous as they used to be. :confused3

As to whether rates will drop, if Swan/Dolphin need to fill rooms, we will see discounts - usually they are public offers so make sure you are signed up to receive emails from Swan & Dolphin. :thumbsup2
