Our prices for late August are $40 more per person than last year! Anyone think they will drop if I wait or else I may have to just decide to vacation close to home this year!

I think the SW prices in general are high right now. We are going to Vegas in September and they are ridiculous for what they are asking. I can book on Travelocity from the smaller town of Madison, WI for less than what I can book SW going thru Milwaukee. Maybe they are getting too big for their britches?

Think it just depends.

We got 82 from CMH to MCO and could have gotten 82 back, but we only got a few at 82 back, and the rest at 102. 82 I was very happy with at just opening date pricing. 102 didnt like quite as much.

I'd gladly take $40 more per person! Prices do go up. :)
Some of us are looking at $100+ more per person, and that really hurts.

but really this is too early to book for Sept. I checked my paperwork from last year and I didn't book until mid-June for a late Sept trip and got $69 down and $79 back. So I will watch and wait.

just wait a bit and check everyday.. we paid $448 total for the 3 of us....one day sit was $160...the next $64..the next $139...just gotta check all the time

Don't forget - Southwest prices INCLUDE luggage fees. On most of the other airlines, you have to pay per bag checked. When comparing SW prices to other airlines, don't forget to add in luggage fees if you plan to check your bags.

I wish ours were only $40.00 more a person. Ours our over $300.00 per person r/t from Pittsburgh to Orlando. Usually our airfare is about $175.00 r/t at the most. I have never paid even close to that much even when UselessAir was the only airline that flew out of Pittsburgh to Orlando direct.

We are going in September. I can't imagine a huge market of people going to Orlando right when the kids go back to school. I'm hoping the prices go down after things settle a bit.

Respectfully, maybe they are simply trying to continue operating in the black?

Could be. But its honestly a miracle for us when prices are cheaper from Madison thru Milwaukee. The county taxes the crap out of tickets and the airlines when flying from Madison. I have flown 2-3 times per year for the past 10 years and this is the first time EVER the prices have been cheaper from Madison for a flight I've booked.

We always go in September and I have found the best prices at the end of June. Best ever was $69.00!! But, there is only one non stop flight in the AM. So I booked it at $114.00. I am not happy but I don't want to lose this flight as we are traveling with a three year old.

The ones we booked on Tuesday keep going up. We booked at $79 each way and they are now $130 each way. We saved over $300 by booking right away.

Same here, our preferred flight went up to $130 as we were trying to buy it... :( So we did our second choice flight time for $79. I was very happy with that. We don't return til 10/31 though so I'll be anxiously awaiting that release day.

This is why I was so happy to get the flight booking out of the way. I have been checking airline sites each day checking prices.

We got CMH to MCO for $59 a few weeks back...just checked today and the same flights are up to $109!!!

I'm in the same boat, but out of Oklahoma - and I am even looking at higher prices than that - $387. pp . . . with a lousy schedule. :sad1:

last year I got $79 on a return flight on SWA on 6/18 and an outbound on Delta for $69 booked on 7/1. Much as I wish I could book now & have it done with, I am not-so-patiently waiting.

So far prices are the same between the 2 and Delta's times are much better. I do understand about baggage fees but rationalize it as follows - I'd be paying $20 for EBCI (loved it last year) if we returned on SWA so, given that we can do the trip with only 1 checked bag between the 2 of us, that baggage fee is essentially a wash and we can spend a good deal of our last day in the parks. If we also take Delta outbound, its 1 $23 fee and gets us to WDW almost 4 hrs earlier!!!

I don't want a SWA credit as I don't expect to fly until next year, beyond the date of the credit and don't expect it would be enough to warrant paying the $50 extension fee. So, again, I wait!!!

got an email from Southwest this morning with "special rates" and when I checked my area, prices went UP even higher yet! Some special that is!

Special doesn't always necessarily mean low or lower. Sometimes it simply means special.

I got that same email and our flights around Memorial Day went down quite a bit. I quickly rebooked us (3 people) and my stepson and his family (5 people) and together we saved a whopping $872.00!!!:dance3::banana:
