SWA fares are out and EXPENSIVE !!

I booked yesterday, and United was over $200 cheaper for 5 of us from Chicago to MCO than Southwest was for our trip in July; we got $160 each R/T on United while Southwest was $200 each. Flight times were comparable. So don't forget to check the major airlines where you get assigned seats.

Yup.We booked Continental Airlines.Albany to Tampa was $158 rt pp and Southwest was over $300 rt pp.Bye,bye Southwest. You had your chance.

Darn! I'm looking for BUF to MCO for July and looks like I missed the $59 rate! I saw the ding for the summer months on Thursday when I got home but when I put in our dates it was $1000 for 3 tickets--ouch!! Unless we get a ding soon I'll probably buy tickets for Airtran. Right now they have alot of flights $89 one way... I really, really like the direct flights from Buffalo... Darn, darn, darn!!!! :( :(

Welp, gave up and booked Kansas City to Tampa for $178 rt. Can't risk Southwest not dropping the price, waiting til too late, or only getting 3 out of 4 needed seats ! Can't believe I talked them into waiting for SWA and then the prices are higher than everyone else. I can't believe it isn't getting more people to drive ! It costs us about $125 in gas each way. If we stop on the road for a night (which we only do going down) it's about $75 plus about $50 for food and incidentals. So grand total is about $425 round trip versus $1100 flying. OUCH !

I think you made good decision TheresaNY,I did the same thing. You wait and wait and wait and wait some more for Southwest to extend past May 10th and then when they finally do their prices are rediculously high.Even when every other airline it still showing sales to Orlando and Tampa.I think alot of people are going to book with another airline.I don't blame them.

Why fly Southwest who has no assigned seating for that much when you can easily get a flight on another airline for the same amount with an assigned seat! Debbie
I'm willing to pay more for Southwest than other airlines. Their customer service is great, and their seating policy is actually better for many of us than assigned seats.

But not *that* much more. They were $150 more for my next Vegas trip, so I went with someone else.

What I found interesting is that the first day they opened the fares I booked my youngest a trip down to MCO to visit her sister and it was 59 each way out of albany. Went to change it to a week earlier and all of their fares are now 158 or 178 EW for the same trip. In a matter of 24 hours the prices tripled so I am hoping that they will come down again so I can book her on the right week.

I don't consider assigned seating to be that big a deal since I fly alone. I find Southwest's method to be a distinct advantage over assigned seating. to each their own.
