Because of the ice storm in OK (no power 12/9 -12/19), I had to cancel wonderful airfare to FL ($159 r/t from KC). I had thought that DH would have to go to AZ, but now he is driving. Because of a drop in our airfare in May 2007, I had a $50 credit that I stupidly applied to the December travel (I wish I had read the DIS first and could have just had it credited to my cc), I now have a credit that will expire in March! I really don't know what to do; when I had to cancel I thought that DH would use the credit so did not really pursue it with the reservationist. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I thought I had read about there being some number for customer help, but I could not find it on the website.

Try calling SW Customer service - the toll number on the website - not an 800 # and ask for it to be applied to your credit card - I did this 2 years ago and it worked fine. I don't know if it will, but it is worth a try!

Thanks, tinkerbell60. Do you think they would just give me the $50 from the May trip and I will lose the rest? TIA!

I really am not sure, when I called I simply said I had a credit that I would like to have applied back to my credit card. They said sure, we can do that. It was a balance of about $160.00. Good luck - and post here what happens!!

I just sold mine on ebay... there are a lot of credits there for sale and they buy them up too. Things we learn on the DIS! :thumbsup2

Was it a refundable fare to begin with? I have a $156 credit from non-refundable flights that will expire in July. I am pretty sure we won't use it, and when I called they said I can extend it for 6 months for a $50 fee, or lose it entirely.:sad2:
Do they refund non-refundable fares if the credit is a result of DING fares, not from weather or some other "good" reason?

jackskellingtonsgirl,

I got a fare drop this morning, not as a result of a Ding but part of SWA's nationwide sale. I called the 800# to see if I could get a refund to my credit card and was told no, it was a nonrefundable fare, and I could extend for $50. I then called SW Customer Service # on their site, not an 800#, and the agent was quite willing and quickly refunded the credit to my credit card.

Hope this helps you.

Mine was a non refundable fare too. The price dropped because of a Ding. The first time I called, they told me to call back after the trip. But, I called back a week or two later and they credited my card right away. The key is to call the main customer service # - NOT an 800 #.

That's the number I called. :sad2: I swear I have the worst luck with Southwest. They won't do things for me that they do for other people! I guess I will call them again when I have all the confirmation numbers in front of me and tell them point blank I want it credited back to my card.

I had limited success when I called back today! :)

My $156 total credit was made up of 3 separate things:
1) A $12 credit from changing from an internet fare to a DING
2) An $87 credit from changing from an internet fare to a DING
3) A $57 credit when the flight in #1 got DINGed a second time

The lady I spoke with today said the first 2 will stay as credits - I can't have the money back because the tickets changed fare classes. The third one stayed the same class (DING fare to DING fare) so I got the $57 back. Better than nothing! :thumbsup2

Dont forget, ebay! My sold in 1 hr. I did 70 for a 90 credit, buy it now, a travel agent bought it, seems they know about ebay and buy them up. No reason to loose out ya know.

DH and I talked about it, and we don't want to go through the trouble of setting up to sell on eBay just for this. I might have a friend who wants to buy the credit - she isn't sure of her travel plans yet.

I currently have $156 credit- due to a price drop (on 3 tickets) If I want to use that credit- will it have to be applied towards the same 3 travellers (doesn't sound like it since some are saying they are selling on ebay) There is no way- all 3 of us will travel together again.

I really think it's even about who you get when you call the non-toll free number. I had the most wonderful and patient lady help me out a few months back. I had about $100. in credit because I kept changing my reservation - even when it would only go down about $10. I changed from ding fares to regular fares back to ding fares, but never changed the days or times - i.e kept the same flight number; I did it 6 times.

I knew from reading on here that my chances were slim I would receive credit back to my card. What really helped me was that I had every confirmation number from the 6 changes - in order and ready to go. She began with the initial reservation, then we went through each one after that and at the end I had successfully proven I had a $100. credit for the initial flight I booked. She then gladly credited it back to my card. I joked with her through-out and kept apologizing for being a pain and how SW probably wished I would never book with them again; we just laughed and had fun with it. She was very gracious and really helped me out when I needed it. :thumbsup2

FYI, I thought this might help some of you out:

I just called regarding a $95+ credit I have that will expire in November. The woman at the customer service number (toll #, not 800#) said that in order to get it back as a refund (i.e., credit on your credit card), the credit had to be as a result of a drop in fare where the DATE/TIME, FLIGHT, AND FARE CLASS remain the same. In my case, even though I rebooked the same date/time and flight, the fare type changed (how I was supposed to know that, I don't know...), so I couldn't get the refund. She did offer me the 6-month extension for $50...but I guess I'll try e-bay.

Hope this info helps!

But what exactly do they mean by Fare Class? I changed from a regular airfare to a ding rate, then back to a regular airfare and still got the credit. :confused3

They are transferrable. The first guy I spoke with told me any of my family or friends could use the credit. I wanted my money back, so I wasn't terribly impressed with that. It does mean you can sell the credit if you want to, or you can use it all for one person.

ANYONE can use it. You can sell the 3 to anyone. All you need to use it is the name and confimation #. That is why it is easy to sell on ebay, no shipping charges, its just a simple email :)
