Survivor 41

There is literally no reason for it to un-occur. Last night was the worst imo when literally 7 people stood in a circle behind the stools and designated who was going to vote for who. This wasn't the old "telephone" style whispering that at least left some possibility that something would change along the way. They stood there more boldly than they did back at the camp (!) and designed their voting scheme. Thankfully Deshawn was so nervous that he put both is votes on Sydney to at least save a one of Xander's participants in the ruse. I have to believe that wasn't really the plan because if Syd was going to have the most votes, then why bother voting for Evvie. They knew that Xander wouldn't use his idol for Syd.

Do I think the rest of the tribals will look like this? Likely not since there (presumably) won't be more (or many) where half the tribe is immune.

It's not really worth going back and forth on it. I'm just trying to explain it's not the same as twists and whatever. The players started it the players changed the way tribals happened. It's not really something I like myself but I wouldn't think stepping in would do well for Survivor. Clearly we differ on that opinion. Anywho moving along :)

Did Deshawn use his extra vote? I saw him read it, but did he use it? That wasn't clear or else I missed it, if it was.

Yes, he used it and voted twice . I had to look it up on a Survivor Wiki. And I have to correct myself! He voted for Evvie twice. So it wasn't him that got scared. It still doesn't makes sense to split the vote and give Evvie the fewer votes! Only he and Danny voted for Evvie -- editing here, Ricard also voted for Evvie, the rest of that crew voted for Syd. So maybe the scramble still didn't result in the votes they agreed upon? Maybe Ericka or Naseer decided they'd rather get rid of Sydney? Because a split with Evvie getting fewer votes doesn't make sense!

I was confused why she didn't get up and speak to anyone. Or did they edit that out (or I missed it)?

Her exit speech did make me LOL. She's got an ego, but it appears she knows it. Probably would have made for some good stuff if she'd stayed. Honestly I like them all and have changed favorites so many times (indicates a good cast). I'm always pulling for the underdogs (unless they are terrible people), so last night was fun. I hope Xander's group gets a few more recruits though, because predictable pick-offs are never fun.

As it stands now, Shan is most powerful with both an idol and an extra vote. Naseer and Xander have their idols. Does anyone have anything else?

Never liked Syd, glad she gone. Her exit speech just proved how big her ego is.
I don't mind the big ego. If you're a wallflower you'll not win the modern game.

Speaking of which, I would recommend reading some of her exit interviews, as she goes off a bit on the modern game. And appears to have a Twinnie-level potty mouth. She also mentions that Danny went off on Probst about the reversal of fortune twist. Hope Danny will elaborate on that during his exit interview, whenever that is.

I don't blame Danny and I hope this twist doesn't come back in future seasons. It did seem like they took it well, so I guess that was highly edited!!! I also didn't like how long Ericka was at Exile island given that it was literally the moment the tribes were merged. I presume they did that because it put her at such an extreme disadvantage that they knew she'd smash it.

Ugh, I really don't like all the twists they are throwing in this season! I mean, the game is always evolving but it is at a point where you almost need a flow chart to show where everything and everyone is! And really, don't get me started on live TCs! Between those and the final TC they have gone to, it really makes me long for the days of early Survivor!

Where are you reading the exit interviews? I haven't ever seen those.

A lot of the journalists/podcasters that cover the show have exit interviews. I listened to Rob Has a Podcast today and he had Syd on. She didn't mention the Danny reaction there but she DID drop a ton of F bombs, lol. Her phone connection was a little poor so I missed some of it. She oddly kept saying how she "just wanted to go to bed" when she was at tribal. I wasn't sure if she was just trying to impress on us that Survivor is tiring or if that was like slang for saying her head wasn't in it? I'm not sure, but she said it a bunch.

Dalton Ross at EW also does post-boot interviews but I haven't read his yet.

One of the main issues is that the game is NOT evolving. That would imply that the castaways are driving the changes. Rather, it's being shaped and moved in the direction that the EP wants it to move in.

Xander seemed to be looking for an advantage at the sit out bench. I can’t believe he didn’t find it! I thought that was why he switched to sit out.
Seems like others are catching on to Shan’s manipulative ways now. Looking forward to watching that play out. Also I hated Heather talking once they were in voting mode. Jeff was definitely encouraging it.

They need to keep Nasseer, he keeps the tribe fed. Shan is being too overtly manipulative. When someone tells you, "I'm not being heard", the answer isn't to pretend to listen, then try to steamroller over them. To get through this game, you have to sometimes agree to someone else's plan, to keep yourself further in the game.

Not sorry to see who went home.

I think Shan is “overplaying “ and I also think many people are catching on to her manipulation. Every time she says “ as a pastor “ I think - you better pray!
ricard urging Xander to use his idol -how silly, as if Xander isn’t catching on to that! Too bad he didn’t see the idol I really though he sat out to hunt for it!
- funny side note: as we’re watching DH looks up and says “who the heck is heather?” Talk about an invisible player and how has she escaped the vote?

I just watched the ep and still hate hate hate those live tribals. If you watch 59 minutes and don't have a clue how they arrived at that vote, it's kinda dumb. I mean, I guess they went back to their original plan which made the scrambling moot. It would have been more entertaining to see Jeff smack down Heather and say "no talking after I've said 'It's Time to Vote'" since they ended up back to where thy were originally. Even Heather didn't vote for Naseer.

If they are just going to gather the alliance in a circle at tribal, it makes everything spoken and shared on the beach before tribal (aka 30% of the show) worthless. I really hate it (can you tell lol).

I think next week they will take out Sham or Ricard. The purplre teaam still has the numbers right?
