Super Goofs Team 4 Miles Challenge

Why does it smell like turtle over here? My mistake that's slug.

Sneaking off now Panda:hippie:

Kristi---He called us Slugs too! You are doing great! Try not to take it to heart too much. It's all in good fun. :upsidedow I'd Love to be able to do 6 miles in 1:14!!! I'm just hoping to avoid the sweepers for the Minnie 15K!!! Keep up the good work chick!!! :flower3:

Lisa--Hope you are feeling better soon!!!

Stacie

Sigh.......:confused3 I know where you are coming from Lisa. LTO and we just need to 'get out of the way' or it will run us over. I am sorry things aren't better for you. I would be frustrated too. :grouphug: We are here for you!

So I am facing a cold, windy day to run. Either I get very brave to go outside, or I face the dreadmill again. Oh what to do??? :confused3 I'll let you know how the saga turns out.....

Hello Fellow Goofs!!!

I see that some of us are having a hard time right now! This is no good! Be gone bad things!

Everyone get up and walk around your desk chair backwards and tap the top of your head three times! There. All better!

I am having troubles at work. Trying to decide if I should quit and when I make up my mind that I really want to just stay home, hubby blows large sums of money in a week making me realize that if I do, I might have to kill him.

Thanks goodness for exercise taking off some of the edge or people would be getting hurt around here!

For me....starting with last Friday - 30 minutes Curves and 2 miles - 35 minutes

Saturday - 5 miles - 1 hour 15 minutes (I gotta work my way up to running - walking takes a LONG time!)

Sunday - sat on my tussie at work ALL day...talk about slugfest

Monday - nada

Today - going to Curves soon and will walk tonight.

I am about 99% sure I am going to do the ING 1/2 marathon here in Atlanta. That will up my time and I need something to push myself with. I just am no good if I dont push and I have gained 5 since the 1/2 at WDW :( boohiss!!! (January is just ugly on my body at work too. Another good reason to say bye bye!)

Please take care everyone and I am going to try to get in here daily again! I think we are a super group and I am hoping to keep getting to know you all better and better!

I am done with sitting and determined to get back on with my training. Only 2 months to Great Bay and I am feeling not ready again...just like January...so I am calling the chiropractor today and hopefully getting back at it. I promise more miles next week. This is not an apology, just a promise that I will do my part better!!! :flower3:

Go Lisa! Go Lisa! Go Lisa!!!

You know - the good news is that we are getting in lots of benchpressing tossing that Panda out on his ear!

Laura

Just got back from a 1.5 hour ride. Going to spin class now.

Lisa-
I would be happy to run/walk with you at Great Bay.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Super Goofs: I do hope you know all of us trash talkers really do think the world of you. None of it is meant seriously or personally, even though it's become obvious that it's taken that way. I'll make an extra-special effort not to trash-talk your team, because I really do want the best for all of you.

Lisa: I do hope you're feeling better, physically and otherwise. Do know that I think what you're with the team and the challenges are great. I wouldn't have found my yoga class without your challenge! And the Great Bay Super Goofs meet is a wonderful thing.

Kristi: I respect whatever decision you make about the teams. I certainly want you to be in a situation that works for you. But please know that the trash-talking, from my perspective (and I think it's true for all of us who do it) comes from a point of encouragement & support, strange as that sounds.

I don't know if this helps any, but speaking for myself, trash talking is a form of social bonding. It's inclusive and not exclusive. I was raised in a family where teasing was a sign of affection. Where I call home, "playing the dozens" is respected. And the more you are teased and the more you tease back, the more you are seen as part of the group. For better and for worse, I bring that perspective into other social groups. So I don't see the trash-talk as destroying the WISH team but bringing us together.

I remember in college when one of my friends introduced his new girlfriend to our circle. We teased her mercilessly--about her taste in men, music, clothes, alcohol, and eventually about hanging out with us. At first, she was taken aback, but was soon giving it back as good as she got it. After a particularly good zinger, someone in the group said something to the effect of, "Aww, teasing you is our way of showing you that we like you." Another friend's new girlfriend replied "But you never tease me?" And we were all silent, because.... :rolleyes1

What I guess I'm saying is that we tease and trash-talk because we like you, we really do. It may seem juvenile but for some of us it's a natural expression of our affection. Where we sometimes mess up--where I mess up--is not always recognizing that not everyone communicates in this way. It's easy for me to forget that not everyone sees playing the dozens as a positive thing, just as it's easy to misunderstand the intention of the tease.

In the end, it does no good if I meant trash-talking as a form of bonding if you didn't receive it that way. The trash-talking game is a two-way street, and if you're not playing I can't be playing with you. So I'll be keeping my snarkiness off your team thread and I apologize profusely to anyone I've hurt or offended. :sad1:

Debra:  I have never taken anything that you say out of context. I really don't mind most of the trash talking but there have been a few comments made here and other places pointed at particular people with a sharpness that really tends to hurt. Meaning to or not, it has. I love everyone on the WISH boards and I do not know a more loving, supportive and wonderful group of people. :goodvibes

I don't mind trash talking as long as it is directed at the general masses not directly at any one person. I think that has been the issue here and is what is driving Kristi away. Smells like chicken is one thing, calling someone who just worked very hard to make 6 miles in an excellent time a slug is another.

I missed the smells like chicken comment but I would be happy if my shoes just smelled like anything except...well - my shoes. :scared1:

Debra - like you, I grew up where banter is a form of "love" but you know how it can sometimes sting. Stick around....keep typing...tell us a long story....you know - spend a lot of time here :rolleyes1 We will be back in a bit to check on you and see if you are still typing away. I, for one, would love to hear a long, long story about your youth - I just adore those. So get crackin lady!!!

(do you think she bought it?)

Hi guys.

11.5 hilly miles in 1:58:22.

How hilly? We were getting strange looks from the people on the chair lift hilly. We had to chew gum to keep our ears from popping kinda hilly. (guess how we entertained ourselves as we ran?)

It's only 11.5 because we were starting down a hill and realized we would just have to turn around and run back up it and we just could not make ourselves do it. Total climb (according to USTAF): 983 feet total elevation change: 1964 ft.

I am off to take a nap so I can survive my kids tonight.

So there, call me a slug again.
but please wait until tomorrow.

Cecilia

Laura - Run ING with me! Everyone else is getting together at Great Bay. I am hoping I will get to met Shan there as well!

I am a pokey walker, but I would love to meet you and Shan if possible. I think I need to register by the 24th, so I have got to remember to talk to hubby about it tonight. I would like support at home before I sign up (which I know I will get).

:yay:

:guilty: Feeling a little less high and mighty about my 3 Windy Miles today. WOW woman...that sounds relatively crazy IMO. You should only be on hills that steep if you have skiis on!!!

Holy cow!! :worship: Where the heck were you running? Stone Mountain? Kennesaw Mountain?

(I need to know so that I avoid that area at all costs! :rotfl: )

From your kinder gentler panda to all the brave prince and princesses of this team:

Now lay the panda VooDoo doll down and put away the pliers.

Now I have a favor to ask. If you have an opinion about Disney charging extra for a ToT or other race and adding a one day park ticket please respond to my thread. We have a powerful and respected voice on the disney boards and we need to be heard.

Ok off to wish I could train again.

Love y'all

Ok, this is the last I am going to speak of any of this. I promise! ;)

I am not crazy-offended by this trash talk. I have never minded a little joking around. It is just now WAY out of control. I really do not get other people coming from other teams and causing trouble in our thread. I don't do that to your team. Don't do it to mine. And honestly, I don't have time for the silly games. It's getting more & more rude, hurtful, personal and plain out of control. I am not going to speak for others - but I know for a fact many other WISHers don't care for any of this either.

I guess I am just very sad that WISH is changing the way it is. :sad1:

I am not going to quit because someone teased and called me a slug. I really don't take it that personally. I just do not like the overall tone of things lately. I feel like we are turning into the not-so-friendly community board. :sad2:

As for me workout-wise, I have 4 miles on deck for after Zack's TKD class. And I made the reservation in the KidStop room for him already, so I have to go! I will report back with my time.

Cecilia: You are insane woman!! I agree that you should only be on hills like that with skis. That said, I have 2 races on tap that have "challenging" hills so maybe I should subscribe to this plan!!!

Panda: As I said before, we still love you and always will no matter how much smack you talk.

Kristi: Glad you are still with us. I would miss you too much if you were to go now.

I have passed along this advice before but this time I did not take my own advice. Here are you words of wisdom: Do not pick up someone elses baggage as it is too heavy to carry along with your own. We need to let things roll and just continue to encourage each other the way we have been doing. I feel much love and caring in this team and I am very proud to be part of it. :cloud9:

I did get off my whiney butt and trudged to the TM in the basement. I completed a 5K in 40 minutes taking care to slow down and be mindful of my ribs. I came back upstairs and did some stretching and yoga along with a little therapy with a rolled towel and one rib popped back in!!! :woohoo: Only 3 more to go!! Tomorrow is another day.

My totals for today are 1:10 and 3.1 miles. :yay:
