Super Goofs Challenge April Edition

Hi Super Goofs! First off, I apologize for being MIA for the last few weeks...I've been out of town for work. I didn't have much time for working out while I was gone, but I'm back and ready to get started again. I haven't finished reading all the posts yet, but by the sheer number, it looks like you guys have been busy!

4.5 miles/45 min. for today

updates:

Thursday...30 mins treadmill/1.38 miles

Friday...30 mins treadmill/1.30 miles

Have a great weekend everyone! :sunny:

Hi Goofs,

Yesterday turned out to be a rest day for me.

Today, 75 minutes total time
43 minutes on the TM, for 3 miles total distance.
32 minutes strength training and ab work.

HI Goofs,

70 minutes for me today
43 minutes TM for 3.1 miles.
27 minutes exercising

Keep on running!

Good morning Super Goofs! Fearless leader (or is that MIA leader?) reporting in here. I managed a 2 mile walk last night with DH and a 1.5 mile walk/run on Saturday with DH. This is my week to get back at it full force. I am feeling back to normal albeit slower than before. I have my plan in place to work back up and will be ready for either the Hollis Applefest or the Maine Women's half in September/October. From there is is ToT with a few 5Ks and 10Ks intermingled. Did anyone from NH sign up for Beach to Beacon this year? I don't want to miss anyone. SilverE (Steve) is going to be there too. He ran in the 5 miler yesterday morning too. Silly boy.

I was MIA this weekend due to massive amounts of yard work that needed to be done. Yes I am claiming every minute that I raked and played grapple skidder for my DH cutting limbs that needed trimming. Everyone else needs to remember that push mowing lawns, gardening, raking, etcetera all counts as exercise too and you need to record your times for that. It will keep us in the running with our hours.

I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend. I know Cecilia is in taper (lucky girl) but how many are headed for Minnie right off. You must be SOOOOOO excited and we are all SOOOOOO jealous. Cecilia, I see you signed up for Expedition Everest, are you doing ToT also?

Oh and my last request, I am trying to find a race in every state to shoot for so, please, send me your favorite race you have done in your state. So far I have removed Maine, NH and Florida from my list but I have 49 left to go...

I still need miles/hours for last week from ArelysAdriana, Escape, HockeyGirl, lllovell, Nukeman, SAP1227 & Steve, DirtyBunny, and Donac. Please post no matter how much you have done, remember it all counts in the end!!! We have a week and a half left in this month to count so lets get out there and get some exercise in!!!

Good Morning Goofs!

Lisa - no TOT this year. We are taking the kids to WDW the week of Thanksgiving and it would be just one too many trips. As for favorite race, do you want any particular length? The Peachtree Road Race is a must do for Georgia unless you want a longer length. However, it is 4th of July and that scares a lot of northerners away because it can be HOT.

No numbers to report for Sunday although my shopping trip to the mall should count as it completely wiped me out. Not just my check book but my body and mind as well.

Cecilia

Cecilia: I figure it is not worth traveling for unless it is at least a 10 miler. I lean more toward the half marathon length though, I really do like that. I will make a note of the Peachtree. I used to live in Savannah so 4th of July would probably be the death of me, not to mention that my DH would not speak to me after that heat.

And as for the mall, any trip with girls to Abercrombie, AE, Aeropostale and the like will drain both the mom and the check book!!!!! We went to AE, Pac Sun and Old Navy this weekend for summer clothes so I feel your pain.

Hi Goofs,

So I decided to take Saturday off and then throw caution to the wind and shoot for 8 miles on Sunday--my longest run, but no sure thing given my recent issues with my right shin.
Had an inauspicious end to Saturday/start to Sunday becaue our dog was up all night whimpering and throwing up. He must have gotten into something in the back yard--Labs will eat anything, I think. I got ~2 hours of sleep, I think and missed the start of the women's marathon trials (a great race, BTW).
Anyway, decided to suck it up and went out in the midday sun for my run. And I actually finished my 8 miles in 79:58. This was the good news--I made it through and the shins felt okay. The down side--seems like I've tweaked a knee and DH says I also may have a hip pointer and the callous/bunion on my big toe really took a beating. But part of me really doesn't care. It was so important psychologically to get in a long run before Minnie, that I'll gladly suffer for a few days. Now I can focus on resting up for Minnie.
Today I did 30 minutes in the pool. May do some stretching tonight.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Maura

P.S. Lisa So if you've crossed off 3 states and have 49 to go, does that mean a couple more joined the Union when I wasn't looking?:rolleyes1

Oops, I have a split keyboard that I use for work and sometimes I put my fingers in the wrong place. I am usually pretty careful about that being that it is my profession, but I guess we all make mistakes sometimes... I hope everyone forgives me. :flower3:

Lisa Sorry-I wasn't being critical--just kidding. Actually, if you include DC and Puerto Rico to your list, it would be 52. Maybe you should also look at adding some our territories in the South Pacific--those could make for some great vacations!

Maura

Maura, no apologies necessary. I am a perfectionist but I can definitely take criticism. Nature of my job. I also do quality assurance for the transcription department where I get to correct everyone elses ****oos so I can take what I give, trust me. :thumbsup2 I also included DC with Maryland due to the limited number of races that I can find. My reason for asking others is that Cool Runnings lists most but not all races. I am trying to make a list of the states and the races that interest me along with listing them in my journal by month so that I can plan ahead.

I do know that next years tentatives are:
OKC Memorial half (my sister lives in Choctaw) in April.
Rock N Roll Virginia Beach half in August/September (this will be family vaca)
Maple Leaf half in Vermont in September

I am also really interested in:
Teton Dam half marathon in Idaho
Bolder Boulder 10K in Colorado (I do this on the TM at the gym)
World's Toughest 10K in New Mexico

So you can see that my brain is not right...obviously...my SIL says I am crazy to think I should do a race in every state. Heck, my family will see the whole US this way. Cecilia, are there any races on either Jekyll or St. Simons Island? I used to LOVE going down there!!

Oh my goodness! a fellow transcriptionist?????? Is it medical, in a hospital?

I have been doing medical transcription for almost 30 years now, currently I work in the hospital as transcription/medical record department system coordinator. I do a fair amount of correcting myself, among other things.

Total minutes today 60,
12 minutes for 1 mile distance on the Nordic Track
48 minutes for exercising.

Tomorrow is a run day.

Good morning Super Goofs. I hope everyone had a rocking spring day and today is another. We may actually hit 70 for the second time in a week!! I guess this is payback for all the snow. FYI, there are places in northern Maine STILL with 5 feet of snow pack and snowmobiling galore. Can you believe it....

Lynnielou: Yep, transcriptionist here. I have been at this for 15ish years now. I was a medical assistant and then I decided I would try my hand at running an office. That was waaaay too much stress. My DH is self-employed and not home much so this job gives me that opportunity plus, it is easy for me and I make good money. I work at home for 2 local hospitals and all their outlying NH, rehabs, etcetera. I am so lucky to be doing all the truly difficult and technical work and I spend a lot of time doing our cancer center. I have also worked for MedQuist. In the last year, they have decided to allow me to do QA when the lead transcriptionists are busy. Lucky me right....;)

Shannon: Glad to see you back posting. Another smiling Goofy face for all of us to see!!

Beth: Are you doing VA this year or next. I am putting it on the calendar for next. It may be a choice between VA and the Country Music Half, Cecilia makes it sound like loads of fun too. Maybe we should start planning our calendar of runs together....how fun!!

Angie: How goes the blister battle? Are you ready for Minnie???!!!!

Maura: How are your shins/ankles doing? It sounds like you worked through the pain but I am hoping there is none post-run.

Everyone else: Happy, happy spring everyone!! :flower3: Can you tell how happy I am that it is not snowing??

As for me, yesterday, I hit the gym and did my chest, shoulders and triceps (day 1) part of my routine. Talked a little to the receptionist as the director was running in the Boston Marathon. She passed halfway at just over 2 hours so she was smokin!! Then I went home to prepare DS for his baseball practice to which I was planning my 3 mile run to while DH took the car. Nope, DH had to work on his truck so, too bad, no run. Got to the field, feeling pretty bad, it is Boston Marathon day and I can't even get a small run in. So my SIL grabbed my arm and said "I'm not dressed to run but lets go for a walk" so off we went. Only 1.5 miles but at a speedy clip. We were back in 20 minutes!! So even though I did not run, I did get some aerobic activity in. Oh, and I got my new running skirt from the runningskirts.com discount. I have to highly recommend these skirts. They are a little shorter than my NB ones but soooooooooooooo comfy and the pockets are better. Yay!!! :yay:

Lisa - Chad is doing the Las Vegas marathon this December with his friend Dave. I know Anne & Pat are also signed up for the Vegas Half the same weekend.

Angie - how'd it go at Runner's Alley?

Morning Goofs!

Busy busy. I hear the VA Beach RNR Half is awesome. I would love to do it but it won't fit on the calendar this year. If you all decide to do it next year then I will do my best to put it on the docket. Dh knows I want to do it so that will help.

As for races on the GA coast. Hmm. I know Tybee Island has a marathon in February. Tybee has a great park with natural seashore which is pretty cool. The Snickers Marathon in Albany is very cloe to the Florida panhandle and could be fit in with a beach vacation. I don't know if they have smaller races or not. We need to check with Jen from Ga - she lives on the coast and could give us the scoop. I will track her down, since she is pregnant she hasn't been on the boards much.

I say we all meet at either Country Musicor VA Beach and run/walk it together! I will start preparing Dh for the idea! VA Beach could be ideal since that will be our 20th wedding anniversary.....I said I wasn't planning anything else for 2009 because we are going to Europe that summer but hmmm.....

Angie - Do you get pedicures? I was talking to a girl yesterday who was saying that pedicures can cause blistering. Something about scraping the feet taking off callouses.
Also, at the ING expo I met this guy selling blister proofing socks. He couldn't tell me exactly what made his socks better than anyone elses but he eventually did sell me a pair of the softest socks I have ever owned. I don't run in them, they are way to wonderful for that. Want me to look for him at the expo on friday? Its worth a shot. We need to get rid of those blisters!

Cecilia

Hi Goofs,

50 minutes of stretch/strengthen today.

Lisa Thanks for asking. My right shin felt okay during the run--definitely better than before. But, of course, other things kicked in that had never before! LOL. So I am now feeling my knees (somewhat worrisome) and my hip (less-worrisome-figure it's just a muscle strain) and my calfs (I'm beginning to feel like Eeyore, with the "what else will go wrong mentality!). Yikes! I have no clue why that run took so much out of me versus others. DH says heat makes a difference and can stress your body more. But today I feel less sore and tomorrow I will do 3 miles and see how it goes. Thanks for asking. At this point, I feel like a 6 of 10 on physical and mental readiness to go, but for some strange reason, I'm feeling confident that I will meet my goal to run the entire race.

Maura
