I usually stay at DVC Resorts
for 5 days sunday-Thursday
or
12 days
Sunday-2nd thursday

of couse to save on weekend points.

I am curious, do some of you hve problem with this??

It is well wel within, DVC Rules, but someone once todl me,that they ahve a hard time with sunday-thursday nights dvcers becaue they sometimes have hard time, getting sunday-thusday nights.

I started this thread, so I guess. I am welcoming flames??

No problem. It is part of the system's flexibility. And the flexibility is a big advantage of DVC.

I sure wish I could do those cool things Nick and others do with the Smilies because then I could send you flames :teeth: (alas I am only a novice at some of this)

No problem here either. I often stay Sunday-Thursday, head to Universal for two nights and head back for another Sunday-Thursday. I have a problem when people auction off their points and rent large blocks of Sunday through Thursday reservations, which makes it harder for the rest of us, especially during holiday times. I see that as a business and not within the DVC rules.

Happy Birthday Cat -- I agree with your comment about the commercial use of DVC membership. I don't think that was part of the flexible design. Don't our rules forbid it? Although enforcing it is probably a really difficult proposition for DVC.

I don't have a problem with folks stayin from Sunday thru Thursday per sey, but I do disapprove of the comercial use of selling those stays on Ebay time after time for profit.

So far we have done the Sun-Thurs thing because DW is off on maternity leave and we are taking advantage of being able to fly at non peak airfares and stay at non peak points with lots of visits.

I suspect going forward we will become 7 day or longer guests and have to change our accomodations accordingly and probably have a move within our stay to fit the stay into our points - for example a switch from a 2BR to a 1BR or a studio

Depends how often we want to go - once DW is back to work, our typical choices are all in Magic or Premier season - we can get a couple of Dream or Adventure days but the bulk of the vacation will be in Magic or Premier and will require some pts mgmt.

::yes::

We have checked out on Friday, Monday and Tuesday so far. But in the future, our plans are for 12 day Sunday - Thursday stays.

This is not due to the high weekend points, it's because we drive to WDW and need the weekend on each end of our vacation to get there and back!

Nope, no problem with that from us. In fact, even before we got into DVC we usually did not stay on Fri or Sat nights. For sure we will not stay at the high points that it costs to stay. It also gives us the opportunity to stay at USF. We do not mind changing hotels (in fact this week we will stay at a total of 4 different places - by choice).

Since we strecth our points no Friday or saturday night stays planned thus far. I did have one Friday night booked and ended up cancelling it cause the higher points about killed me. We are just a 7 to 8 hou drive away and typically stay offsite the night before we arrive and soemtimes the last night, too. My Dad works for a major hotle chain and we can discounted nights.

No problem I do it - I also drive - leave Saturday night arrive Sunday morning - then leave Fri (like at 4:00am) and go home - this works great for me - I need two days to rest before returning to work....

Now as I have pointed out - if DVC ever went to the full week - the members who are complainting about not being able to get anything but a Friday or a Saturday - then guess what they would get NOTHING....

the fault is not yours - they need to plan better

I make last minute trips myself - you just have to be more flexibility and some people won't give a inch.

if you are flexibility you can get your membership to work with you - if you can't be then - hey you better make all your reservations at the 11th month period.

don't get upset because some people want DVC to work like other timeshares - I also own other timeshares and believe me I love the way DVC works - since I stay the same way no matter if I own a week or points - so those days just go to waste.

I love the way DVC works - it is a GREAT design.

We also stay Sunday-Thursday. If we arrive at WDW Saturday, we either stay elsewhere Saturday night or pay cash at resort. The few times I've stayed in a studio Saturday nite (like upcoming trip), I feel kinda guilty using the high weekend points. And now that DH insists on a 1 BR every trip, I just can't see using 40 points(at least) for one night. I'd love the day to come that we have so many points we can use them on weekends for a 1 BR or more without feeling guilty. Sigh-don't think we'll ever be that "point-rich".

We don't have any problems with members staying Sunday-Thursdays only..................but members renting "Prime Holiday weeks" on e-bay to make a profit...........thats another story.

No flames here. We have to travel a long distance, so we only make a trip once a year. We make the best of our trip and try and stay in Central Florida at least two weeks. We usually spend one weekend off site somewhere in the two week time period to extend our points for the two weeks.

Nick, so very cool!!!! I need a class in advanced smilies :teeth:

As mentioned here by all before. we do the Sun-Thursday to conserve points. we stayed in BCV last Thanksgiving on a Fri and Sat and the point were really eaten up. We followed that up w/ a $99 Disney cruise, so I guess that is why I went for it.

Great balls of fire Nick!!

Very well said.

We need some DVC members to avoid the weekends to even out demand. That's not the same as cherry-picking- prime-holiday-weeks-for-the-lowest-sunday-thursday-point-value and-auctioning-them-off-on-an-auction-site. Member using thier own points? Go for it and enjoy.

I have no problems with Sunday-Thursday stays, either. As a matter of fact, I do it myself, and pay cash on the weekends so I can get maid service:jumping1: I have the points, but it just toasts my cookies to use that many points for just two nights when I can use almost the same amount of points, and get 5 nights instead.:scratchin

I'm planning on most trips being Sun-Thur. More bang for the point. Maybe in the future we'll do full weeks, but not now. Also we can share the magic with family/friends more with the economics of the lower point times.

Peace
G4L

PS
Reading about the reserving prime times, then auctioning practice, Isn't this against the rules. I know we can rent points, but I don't think this auctioning practice is in the spirit of ownership

DVC knows about it and has made no move to stop it.

So they don't have a problem with it.

Members who call at the 10th month or a few days after the 11 month and get told sorry - the villa are gone. They get mad about the DVC member selling THEIR villas on ebay.

again if you plan you get what you want.

in those situations - the member may have intend to go but a family problem came up and he/she had to sell (they needed the money)

People here are very quick to judge others.

now there is one guy who has always sold his points - yea he was from AL......I have ran across people he has sold his points too - in several trips to OKW. Some guys, like him, just brought the DVC points to sell them - period.
