I will do a full write up once we get home, but I have to say that we are very pleasantly surprised at this resort.

I read some bad reviews and we were a bit worried. I really think the bad reviews are for the Inn at Summer Bay across the street that does look like a rat trap.

The unit is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath on the top floor. It is mostly very quiet as we are away from the larger pools and activity. For us, we like this as we need quiet for sleeping.

The unit was clean when we arrived, although I did see they do not vaccum under the beds so there was some gunk there. They also did not empty the sweeper and it was full of dirt.

Check in went smoothly although I was accosted by the guys trying to get us to come to a "presentation" We said no and they called TWICE later trying to change our minds. We said NO a little more forcefully and they let it go.

Wifi is $40 for the week and it is per device, so we opted to only have DH's computer connected.

The info we got said there were no elevators, but we were put into the newer condos and they do have elevators.

We will be putting this resort on our list of places to return through SkyAuction.com

I really don't have a lot to add.

The resort is a little further away than we normally stay, but it was worth it. It was quiet and private. Quiet and sleep are important to us. Maybe it is just our age!

The only drawbacks were:

1. no balcony in our unit, which is nice for sitting out on and having am coffee....not a huge deal.

2. The master bedroom toilet was really LOUD....it sounded like a plane taking off! :rotfl2: Again, not a huge deal, but worth mentioning.

3. The waterpark mentioned in the brochure is $10 per person and didn't offer all that much. We didn't use it.

4. They did call us THREE times to come to their presentation. :rolleyes1 Finally I got a bit heavy handed and they backed off.

5. No free wi-fi. It was available PER COMPUTER, for $39 for the week or $10 per day.

But the POSITIVES:

1. Quiet (did I already say that? HA!)

2. Friendly staff

3. Fairly new unit, clean, 3 TVs, One DVD player, 2 bedroom/2 bath/full kitchen/ washer/dryer.

4. Nice pools

5. Several on-site activities. We didn't go to them as we were there for Disney.

6. SEVERAL Disney and Universal shuttles for free several times per day. We didn't use them as we had APs and parking included.

7. We got this through SkyAuction.com so our cost was quite minimal.

We had stayed in one of their villas / condos a couple years back. It had a full kitchen, a couple bedrooms, washer and dryer, and a small patio. It was very nice - we really enjoyed our stay there. Their were nightly activities by the pool, staff was very friendly, everything was clean, etc.

From our visit, I'd recommend it to anyone -- at least the condos. Now we were there on their dime as they were trying to sell us a vacation package, which we ended up declining. Very high pressure sales, as you would imagine.

As an owner at Summer Bay Resort, I can honestly say that my family loves this resort! We stay there every year. We don't "bank" our week and trade it to go somewhere else - we go to Summer Bay every year.

We love the pool areas, lake with fun water activities, mini golf, etc. There are lots of restaurants in the immediate area. We always have a car with us since it is a little further away from Disney property than other hotels/resorts. We don't mind the distance. It's about a 10-15 minute drive to get to WDW, which we don't think is bad at all. It's a nice, well-kept, quaint little resort that we love very much.

I agree with the OP - I think the bad reviews that appear online for Summer Bay are for the Inn at Summer Bay - not Summer Bay Resort.
