DCL prices prevented us from cruising with them in 2016 and 2017. I was hoping 2018 prices would be better. Not the case. I just received a quote for June 2018, Dream 5 night, 3 adults....$5500!! I realize summer prices are higher but this is crazy.

I priced out the 5 night for June as well and our family of 5 would be $8828. I'm afraid at that price my expectations would be too high. That said, Disney is in the for-profit business and I totally get it.
We'll go back to researching an all-inclusive for Summer 2018.

I discovered years ago that DCL charges more than I am usually willing to pay for most of its cruises - even for the "cheap" inside cabins I book! I will enjoy my April 2018 Panama Canal cruise on the Wonder, and possibly one more Transatlantic after that. In the meantime, I will look forward to my HAL Caribbean cruise in March, and Hawaii and b2b Alaska cruises on Royal Caribbean in May. :teeth:

That logic is like having your cereal in the morning, finding the milk to have turned sour, and then putting the carton back in the fridge thinking perhaps tomorrow it will be fresh.

I'm on that cruise as well! :)

I don't think DCL expects the average middle to upper middle class American family to book their European cruises. These cruises are definitely priced for the upper class. I don't know about on here, but on CC a lot of dcl cruisers turn up their noses at Carnival and NCL, but I've enjoyed those cruiselines and I'm platinum on Dcl. I'm glad I got to experience DCL in Europe a few years ago. The prices don't really bother me anymore. I just look at all options on all cruiselines, and I go from there.

I booked a 7 day Alaska cruise for Summer 2018 today. For my family of 3 it will be $1100/day. Very expense, however we do not have to fly to Vancouver BC since we can drive from our home in Washington. :worship:
We will be taking our first Royal Caribbean cruise in a month (7day on Liberty). We are excited and looking forward to checking out the Junior suite. If we like the RCI cruise I will cancel my Disney Alaska and book another Royal cruise for 2018. :sail: I am sure it will cost less then $7400 :crutches:

I'm wondering if you won't see any break in the upward trend until the two new ships come into service. I'm guessing it's the supply and demand model at work. Disney only has 4 ships when lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean have about 25 each. When you have a good product the demand is only going to go up so I don't think there will be any relief from this any time soon. It will be interesting to see the effect of the two new ships.

I'm booked on NCL's new ship the Bliss. It set's sail next Spring. It's built for Alaska and it's priced much lower than DCL.

I booked two cat 10s this morning, two adults in each, $1775 pp so $7100 for the Magic May TA. Not a bad price, but think I can do better w/ one of the new MSC ships or Cunard. I have until Saturday to give my deposit...we'll see. It isn't the cruise price so much but no drink packages, no laundry deals...and after 64 days at sea w/ DCL only Gold. So annoying. Not that Platinum would get me much anyway. We are on MSC Divina for spring break, their new Seaside for January, and the Meraviglia for Norway in June 2018...and Harmony of the Seas this September. I really want to feel the excitement for DCL that we used to but as much as we love the Magic I'm sort of ho hum about the whole thing. Most likely we're going to move our Disney business to ABD.

And is that really just a price issue? So in other words if DCL would reduce fares say 25% would that make a difference in your travel plans?

I was really tempted to book the EBTA as I think that it is still a decent price, but at the end of the day it's a huge time commitment for my husband. He gets 20 vacation days a year and we like to take 3 or 4 trips a year, so that's a lot of time to devote to one trip. I'm thinking we will wait until he retires to take on the TA's. We are sailing on NCL this summer to Alaska - booked an aft facing penthouse suite with an enormous verandah and all the NCL suite privileges for less $ than a cat 5A on the Wonder. And it includes free booze, specialty dining, internet, and OBC. It's going to really have to stink to make me think we made a bad choice. :P I love DCL. I truly do and hope to continue sailing with them. But it's probably going to be in the off season. We were on one of the Canadian sailings last fall and were very happy with the price we paid on opening day. But summer, not so much.

I agree that those TA cruises look great. And the prices for those are not that far out of whack of the other cruise lines. But you hit on the one difficulty with those and that's the time commitment. It's hard for families to be able to do that with school age children.

We live in AZ. My son does online school so he'd only miss the last week. A lot of schools in the South are on the May-Aug schedule so I guess it depends on your comfort level pulling your kids out the last week, but for the most part nothing goes on that week.
