Suggestions for hotels in Vancouver please (saw they were very pricey)

We stayed at Times Square too. It was a really convenient location, IMO. Super close walk to Safeway (as another poster mentioned), and also Whole Foods. There is a liege waffle place a block or two away that was great, and lots of other restaurants, as well. We walked to most of the touristy things we did, actually, and the port was maybe 10min away by cab? We really enjoyed having the kitchen; we got things from Granville and from the grocery stores for easy breakfasts and dinners (tired kids post-touristy stuff). I am a weirdo but was fascinated that Safeway had unique bakery/deli/prepared things I've never seen in Safeways in the US (east coast or west coast) - foreign grocery stores are apparently a tourist activity for me haha. The extra space was very nice - DS was on a pull-out in the living room and DD was in a little bedroom, leaving the main bedroom to DH and me. That was really a sticking point for me with the costly hotels - they seemed to often have 2 double beds in one room (not even queens) and still cost twice as much as Times Square.

We’re going in Alaska in September and we are booking to stay at the Days Inn which is just like a block away from the terminal. Much cheaper than all the other ones

Pan Pacific is fairly dated compared to the Fairmonts, JW, and Shangri La. You are mainly paying for the location. Check out the Westin, Sheraton, Marriott, and Residence Inn in the city if looking for cost-effective options.

We stayed at the YWCA on Robson (across from the Rodgers Arena) for our first AK cruise.

(We also stayed in a Boy Scout hostel in London. I would recommend either to those who need a clean place to stay. Both offer rooms to hold a family - with a private bathroom.)

I have also stayed at the Pan Pacific :)

Which hotels have good pools? Need some swim time before the cruise because it might be too cold on the ship.

Speaking of the Pan Pacific 😏, they do have an outdoor heated pool (and a whirlpool), open 8 am - 9 pm.

It was comfortable when we used it on an October night.

We caved and booked the Fairmont at the airport just for convenience. It's expensive as hell but it saves us having to think about any kind of transportation.

I think there are probably a variety of reasons that this hotel is cheaper. That being said I did a quick pricing for Sept 10-12 (I just took a stab at dates) and found that the Sheraton Wall Centre is $80 more per night, the Hyatt Regency is only about $60 more per night, and there are a number of hotels in those price ranges that you might want to consider unless Days Inn is offering some sort of unbeatable rate.

The pan pacific sounded lovely but for a family of 5 would have run like $1400 for two nights because they won't let you put 5 people in a regular room and you have to book a suite. We ended up booking the Sheraton Wall Centre a two bedroom family suite for around half the price.
Us too! Two couples in suite

We found a deal, Pan Pacific Club Level. Attached is the view the morning we left. After the cruise we stayed at Fairmont Waterfront. They had a nice rooftop pool area.

We stayed there one night after disembarking because the only flight we could get out was super early in the morning. It was very nice and it was great to just roll out of bed and go to our flight.

Yeah we booked one night when we arrive and one night when we leave. It resulted in some insane flight savings by booking the post-departure flight early the next morning rather than that afternoon, so it helped in that regard.

We have some weird discount program through my work called Tickets at Work. I used them to book our hotel before DCL Alaska cruise. Ended up getting unbelievable rate at Four Seasons.

Wow, 25 DCL cruises! We've only been on three Disney cruises but this one was the most memorable and adventurous.
We loved staying at the Pan Pacific prior to our cruise. We had a corner room from where we saw all of the cruise ships dock. My kids loved it.
Hope you have an awesome vacation.

First time EVER on an Alaskan cruise. 25 Disney cruises under our belt, this is our ‘biggest’ trip. Would love to stay in Vancouver two nights before cruise but find hotels very pricey but would really like to stay close to port.
I always stay at the west coast hotel when I visit Vancouver alone or whether it's with my family, I choose the west coast. I was impressed by the service and the cleanliness of this hotel more over their friendly approach and guidance when I see the first time in Vancouver, which helped me a lot to know more about the place. They provide all essential amenities tv, wi-fi and especially, I love a hotel with a kitchen facility because whenever I need to sip or taste a homely tea or food, you can bring your table by yourself. You can save money by cooking your own meals or ordering food from restaurants that deliver. You can save some money by preparing your own meals for your family.

For our Alaska Cruise this year, we stated at the Fairmont Waterfront, it is right across from the cruise terminal. We were able to walk to many different restaurants and activities. It can be pricy, but the currency conversion lowered the price by a lot. It was the nicest hotel that we have ever stayed at. I would just suggest walking along the seawall to the little Dutch restaurant for breakfast instead of eating at the Fairmont's restaurant for breakfast. The food was better and a lot cheaper.
