Sturgis Motorcycle Rally...HUGE Crowds expected

Does anyone know of the majority stays for the whole 10 days or do most people just go for one of the weekends? If people are there the whole time I would expect some of them to start becoming sick in a couple of days :(.

I saw on the news that some people are selling COVID tests. Assuming they even are accurate, there is the problem that one can test negative for COVID on one day, then the very next day become infectious, yet not show symptoms until the day after. :( It generally takes 5-6 days before symptoms appear.

Of course, then there's the asymptomatic people, who are probably the deadliest. Since they never show symptoms, they don't act like they have it. And likewise some people respond to them like they don't have it. :duck:

I think what bothers me the most about all this is that if/when some of these folks get sick, they are going to risk the lives of the healthcare workers who have to care for them. That's really not fair. It's one thing to just be going about your business doing necessary things and contract a virus, it's quite another to contract it, knowing the risks, while you decide you want to go out and have some fun.

I'm totally fine with people taking risks on themselves, but the minute you start endangering others, I think your selfishness should be stopped OR you should waive all rights to future medical treatment for the virus.

Last week I watched a very sad story about an ICU doctor (just one of many) who recently passed away from the virus that he obviously caught from one of his many patients.

Look at the bright side, a whole lot of used motorcycles may be on the market soon.

Bunch of idiots and I really don't care if people get themselves sick doing stupid things. I do care about the people they come in contact with afterwards that they then infect.

Ayyoo! That is a bright side!

I know this sounds mean, but I wish that people who engaged in deliberate stupid reckless behavior like this would be denied access to a hospital if they got a bad case of Covid.

I know what you mean, I don't want to see anyone die from it, but I wish they would learn their lesson. There will definitely be some deaths coming from Sturgis this year; just hope that everyone who attended gets to hear about it and finds it in their heart to be a little more cautious.

I am so thankful all my nerd conventions for the year were cancelled. Had plans to attend Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim and that was cancelled. A bunch of my friends go to Dragon Con in Atlanta every year, that was cancelled. Then of course there's San Diego Comic Con which has over 100,000 attendees. "Con crud" is a term for a reason. I can only imagine what would've happened with Covid.

When my mom told me Sturgis was still happening I was flabbergasted. I really hope Daytona doesn't have Biketoberfest this year, but it's Florida, so lol.

I was in SF Fandom for years. I came back from a convention with "Con Crud" many times. That is what happens when you are in fairly close contact all weekend with some people who spent a lot on the con and didn't want to stay home just because they had a cold or the flu.

Ooof I've heard of that! My friends talk about how when they go to the cons each year, half return with some kind of illness! COVID would have a field day at a convention!

Yup. It doesn't help that people usually don't sleep much, drink a lot, and don't eat well. :P Not to mention how many people are crowded into the convention spaces. Google "Atlanta Marriott Dragon Con" for some nightmare-inducing crowd photos.

I always abide by the 6-2-1 rule (at least 6 hours of sleep, 2 meals a day, 1 shower per day) when I'm at a con, and I still get sick. Last year I was lucky and didn't get sick, which was ironic since I was pregnant!

Well, no. They will be treated.
There is also a good chance the infected will expose friends, family and coworkers.
So Sturgis 2020 will affect local communities for weeks. It certainly will be a memorable ride. 🙄

Yes, but I also mean that Americans have become so selfish that they no longer even consider their social contract. No society can survive that type of behavior for long.

So much for the perfect union once enjoyed for centuries. It's now taken so for granted that there is absolutely no recognition it's currently teetering on the cliff.

I agree Christine. We as a society shouldn't rush to be so cold towards our neighbors.

So many assume they are above it all, bulletproof and entirely self sufficient. They never stop to consider that they're part of a community and an overall society of humanity that will always be interdependent on some levels. Unfortunately they may only open their eyes when forced, at the point it's too late and the wheels are not only off the bus, but the engine dropped out miles ago and the frame is no longer structurally sound.
