Sturgis Motorcycle Rally...HUGE Crowds expected

Unfortunately, those that they transmit it to when they return home didn't make that choice. :sad1:
If someone in my family was going to Sturgis, they would not be coming back into my home. You have to protect yourself from these people. At this point it is clear that no one else is going to do it - we have to protect ourselves.

People keep saying “well if they can protest”. Thing is.....the protesters for the most part wore masks. How about these folks?

not what I seen on tv. I will say about 60’percent was wearing a mask what I seen on tv. It was over half of them was wearing a mask I will give you that. Now the rioters that was a higher amount wearing a mask. They wanted to cover their face. Not from covid but being recognize.

Re: protests. Most people wore masks at the ones here. When someone wasn't, they were admonished and told to get one on.

Sturgis: going specifically to be somewhere to flaunt the "no precautions". If you look at the people attending..most are older, overweight, smokers, etc. Target range for Covid. Should be interesting, either way, to see what blossoms...

Funny....vast majority of the ones I saw were......

Same where I was--in fact there was so much mask-wearing, I commented on it when watching it live. But I do understand that in different parts of the country there's a different mentality so there could have very well been some protests that had lower levels of mask compliance.

Again, though, things seem to go "okay" in outdoor gatherings. Not saying the risk is zero, but it's better than indoors. There was all the protests as well as the Lake of the Ozarks pool party.

One report I heard was that 60 percent of the population that lives in the area wanted it cancelled. But those who control the decisions said cancelling would be like a dare and twice as many bikers would show up.

We had local jeep event about a month ago that the organizers cancelled, even had the tee shirts printed with the word cancelled on them and people came anyway.

No scheduled events, but people hung out in parking lots, cruised our coast, ate in our restaurants just as they would have if the organized event happened.
I was wondering that--whether the attendees would obey a cancellation or whether it would just make a headache for law enforcement who had to enforce the cancellation. There are a lot of great, law-abiding bikers out there, but overall the crowd at Sturgis is kind of wild, I wouldn't put it past them to show up in spite of a cancellation.

I also think that they would show up no matter what. This is like a pilgrimage to some of these people. Plus the bar owners would open because there's lots of money to be made.

I wonder if they'll have concerts? Outdoors maybe but people will still jam together. ETA - I just checked and they have lots of bands scheduled.

It's not the outdoor stuff that's the problem, it's all the crowded bars, restaurants, and other indoor spaces that are going to be packed to the gills with people who think COVID is a Commie Democrat hoax.

On Twitter there's talk of a T shirt seen there that says "Screw COVID, I went to Sturgis". But as some people on Twitter pointed out, "You don't screw COVID - COVID screws YOU".

Some people only learn the hard way.

It is their 'Liberty' so we all need to let them share this 'Liberty' with one another. Once they share this 'Liberty' many of will be free and freedom is their one true 'Liberty'...

What about the liberty of the innocent people whom the Sturgis attendees are going to infect with a deadly, highly contagious virus when they go home?

Nobody has the liberty to knowingly endanger the health of others through selfish, reckless action.

JUST TO INTERJECT SOME MUCH NEEDED HUMOR >>>

On April 27th at 1:25AM I was riding my bicycle and was hit by a WILD PIG. My bicycling buddy was ahead of me and tried to warn me that MAMMA PIG AND BABIES were off to the side of the path we were riding. Guess MAMMA didn't like being startled with bright lights and evidently decided to charge me to keep me away from her little ones. My crashing the bike resulted in an injured left shoulder, 2 cracked ribs, a cracked scapula and a punctured lung. Not too good for a 70yo guy.

After being released from the Trauma Hospital I called my doctor's office for a follow-up visit. The receptionist asked why I needed to see the doctor and I responded that "I was bicycling and was hit by a hog and crashed." The receptionist then said "YOU WERE HIT BY A MOTORCYCLE!!!" I said "no, it was a 150 pound wild pig." (HOG)

I'm not going nor would I ever go. But I do think it is a very slippery slope when you begin to try to say which events are allowed and and which aren't.

By the way, USA Today reported that the top three professions of attendees are doctors, lawyers, and accountants. That was reported because apparently, in years past, the event used to be more rowdy but has tamed over the years because many of the attendees would have career-ending consequences with a criminal record.

It's no surprise at all. Bikers have always had a free spirit.
That being said, it's more concerning that so many of these visitors have travelers far and wide to get there and be reversing travel "home". AND, will they answer honestly if they are called by a contact tracer?

So those of you who keep saying "the majority of the protesters wore masks" were at every single protest around the country. That's pretty impressive, you all must be exhausted.
How about the rioters, were the majority of them wearing masks?
I have only ever commented on the protests in my own area (which were huge)—DC. We had no uptick in cases from them. Granted some people did get it, notably 7 National Guardsmen, but nothing more noteworthy. I think I read that some South Carolina protest resulted in 39 cases. As to other area and protests there, I have no clue. And for the record, I never thought they were a good idea or should have been done. I was horrified actually. But they turned out to be an interesting study of the virus as will Sturgis.
