Stupid idiot Jackhole!!!!!!

If I remember right on a thread here about how fast you drive there was a poster that tried to keep people from passing because she did not think people needed to drive faster then she was.

This is illegal and a ticketable offense in my state.

The guy keeps blowing his horn, I yank him out of the car and beat the sh%% out of him. I pass you, you honk at me, there will be a confrontation.

J/K. I let them know I think they are number 1 with the use of my longest finger.
You must not live in a CCW state.

You must not live in a CCW state.

My thoughts exactly. You may have a middle finger, they may have a gun. That's a risk I'm not willing to take with strangers who may have unpredictable rage issues.

And this is why I will never be unemployed!!! Relax do you realize the average time gained by these moves is anywhere from 90 seconds to 3 minutes. Yeah so worth it
Why do you care? if someone wants to go fast, or pass you, let them.

In the OP's case, that driver who wouldn't let the OP pass, they should've just minded their own business and let the car pass! Who are they to play god and decide "thou shall not pass". If someone wants to drive fast, let them. People need to stop worrying about others and start concentrating on their own driving. Trouble starts when you stick your nose where it DOESN'T belong.

Agreeing with PP. If you're only comfortable driving under the speed limit, that's fine, but stay out of the way of others. That means allowing people to pass, staying in the right lane, etc. I drive the I-90 quite a bit most tractor trailers do a good job of staying in the right lane, but it's the clueless people just cruising along in the left lane that can hold up dozens of cars in traffic now. Be aware of your surroundings!

. You never know who you are dealing with I would have just backed off. After they refused to let you pass the first time.

Oh yea...learned that lesson in my teens. Granted my stupid teen BF at the time was driving.

We were on a stretch of road where we had a car that would not let us pass.

So stupid BF pulls off onto a side street and they follow us. BF stupidly pulls into a driveway and the other driver and crew stops, gets out, with HUGE chains and tire irons and starts beating on the car. Almost takes the head off of someone as he swings a tire iron & breaks the glass. The passenger ducked.

BF starts car and drives away as people are trying to kill us.

So yes, some people drive slow to bait people into doing something stupid so they can do nefarious things to them.

To me, the OP has road rage issues

to be that upset about it, and start a message board thread with a sort of ugly title shows it

In neighborhoods , I don't pass, because of kids playing

to pass you have no idea if someone will back out of a driveway-or a cross street
just not safe to gain a few minutes

But a responsible gun owner would never pull out their weapon because someone gave them the finger? Isn't that what people here always say...Most gun owners are responsible and would never take out their weapon for something like that?
Interesting the emphasis is always on being responsible but here's a casual remark indicating giving someone the finger could get a gun pulled on you in a high CCW state.
Interesting.

I'm picturing a neighborhood that I wouldn't pass someone in either.
I'm definitely not opposed to using colorful language in my car or anything like that but I wouldn't pass a slower car in a residential neighborhood (at least not what I'm picturing).

While I can see this thread is about to veer off into gun rights absurdity, I did want to take a moment to point out that several posters in this thread really need to review the driver's license test materials for their county. >.> Seriously, you're driving around a couple of thousand pounds' worth equipment, it's worth it to know what a dotted yellow line means.

Sadly, this sort of mentality (fight baiting) plays out in bars too.

I don't care if you want to drive like a reckless jack wagon. Do whatever your want so long as it doesn't endanger other drivers on the road. However, I still maintain that if you DO run into the kind of jerk that won't LET you pass (yes, they are being a jerk), it would behoove you to back off rather than risk further confrontation with someone who clearly is not a nice person.

I let people pass me all the time. I'd much rather have the speed demon in front of me than behind me riding my bumper. But, not everyone is as reasonable and nice as me. Witness the "I will not be passed" driver in the OP.

Generally, the rule I follow as well....mostly because the trip through my neighborhood to a major road is pretty short. Certainly not worth passing in that situation! I live about one mile from 4 lane roads (where passing is simple). Seriously, I'm not going to "save" that much time by passing on those roads. It's more like a few seconds.

Agree, and important to remember at times unfortunately, a lethal piece of equipment.

That's good, really rational. Drive as fast as you want, I'll be happy to scrape you off the pavement.

The situation is pretty plain here: the person refusing to let the other person pass on a dotted yellow line was wrong.

Yes, you can bring in other issues like road rage, 'people shouldn't drive fast', varying residential speed limits, 'how much time will you really save', etc. But in the end: OP was legally correct and the person who refused to let them pass was wrong and a danger to other drivers.

Trying to block someone else from legally passing you, or being mad if they do, means you need to examine your ego problems.

In our state the driver who wouldn't let the OP pass would have been ticketed. They call it "creating an environment for road rage"

Personally, I agree that passing in a neighborhood setting isn't worth the risk of a kid running out etc, but I have never seen a dotted yellow in a neighborhood in my area, so maybe my definition of neighborhood is different from the OP.

And if someone does pull the stunt the driver pulled, I certainly wouldn't try to engage them. It's a little disturbing to me that some people think a honking horn warrants a physical confrontation.

Baiting isn't only rampant on the literal roadways, the internet superhighway is crowded with it as well.
