Strangest thing you HAVE to pack?

My bed sheet, quilt, pillow, air mattress and air pump. I can't sleep with any part of my body touching the bedding because I am severely allergic to commercial detergents. So I bring my bed with me everywhere I travel!

I bring a strong magnet, a string and a mini battery operated hand held fan...I hang it from the ceiling and use it on the nights I am sea sick. Wind in the face=instantly not sea sick. I ended up loaning 2 of them out to other people on our WBPC cruise and they loved them!

Clothes pins for curtains and clothesline

pop up hamper

extra pair of sunglasses because a broken pair in that bright sun is no fun.

my own tumbler (with my name on it. DH lost his and the cruise staff returned it to him because he had his name on it)

Drink caddy to haul all of our tumblers everywhere

Pumper of hand soap because bar soap just sucks! I leave it there when I am done so I do not have to worry about it spilling on the return trip.

An empty (therefore lightweight) bottle to fill with water at the drink station, so you can always have drinking water in the room.

Any credit-card sized gift card with no value (either spent or never filled, so no harm if you leave it behind) to turn on power for the room instead of using your KTTW.

A wheely grocery bag with zipper top, to use as beach bag and/or extra piece of luggage for the return trip.

My no-spill coffee mug and water bottle, movie-type snacks, so I don't have to pay big prices, my back-up prescription glasses. Nothing would be worse than a blurry trip should I lose or break my glasses! Bring some aspirin or whatever pan reliever you use, just in case, or in my case, when I need it. Ditto above with luggage scale, duct tape and my nook full of books and some games.

  • a powerbar.... but not for a DCL cruise as they are forbidden. I hate getting up mid night to swap out my chargers
  • a motion activated battery powered night light. I'm going to look for a light switch as I'm stubbling in a foreign room
  • masking tape.... to mark my suit case, tape up one of those night lights at the corner to not bump into it
  • magnet flashlight to mount to the ceiling or other ships with metal walls
I just bought an Anker 5 port charger! The best 25 bucks spent!

I will add, that on my carryon...I bring a small Lysol spray bottle(2 bucks Walmart in sample section) and Lysol wipes, first on plane, I wipe and spray tray table seat and arm rest.( they don't clean those things) so I'm sure I'll clean thru my stateroom also. For my alarm clock, there is an awesome BIG CLOCK, APP ALARM I use on my iphone... It's awesome, I've used it for years. I bring a couple pills to "Stop and Go" if you will!lol
I bring a little blanket, flawless candles for room, and I take a copy of important info, like my passport, etc and make sure all locked and put in room safe.

I always bring a few safety pins - nothing spoils an evening more than if you have a clothing malfunction - i.e., strap breaks on your cocktail dress, hem of your dress rips, etc. I actually forgot to pack a stapless bra on one of my cruises and used the safety pins to rig my regular bra as a substitute. I also always bring hair ties - it can get very windy on deck and they come in quite handy when I want to pull my long hair up so I can get in the hot tubs without soaking my hair.

My sock monkey. But then she goes everywhere with me. She's actually travelled more than I have.

Downey Wrinkle Releaser!

I've found a regular spray bottle filled with water tends to release wrinkles. I just hang up the garment, then go in the bathroom and spray the clothes down, smooth them out and hang in the closet. I usually do a day or 2 at a time and they dry in a few hours. No ironing and no need for anything but a spray bottle and some water. It just requires a little planning ahead.

I do this at home often too...spray and hang up in the bathroom and clothes is ready for work the next day!

Like AndreAggie said, water works exactly the same as the expensive bottle of Downy Wrinkle Releaser. I used to use the Downy and was in love. Ran out one day and was deperate. Discovered water works just as well. Perfect - I now pack a small spray bottle from the dollar store and it works like a charm. I keep it in my closet at home too - love it!

The fan thing is a cool idea...maybe a future FE gift?

I bring a bungee cord AND clothes pins (to hotels too). On my cruise, I strung up the bungee cord in front of the desk area and hung all our stuff to dry. Perfect. I also hooked it up out in the verandah and it also worked great.

I also bring a popup hamper. Just like somewhere to toss dirty laundry, especially undies and gross socks.

Okay, so, we have this garden gnome that travels with us. His name is Bo. We've dragged him all over. However, because of his size and because traveling with a toddler is going to be hard enough on it's own without adding a ceramic gnome into the packing, I am considering replacing him with an identical (but significantly smaller) Christmas ornament.

That's pretty strange, right?

A small white board so kids can write down where they are headed when we split up because we didn't find the wave phones user friendly. Athough now we can text with the app (haven't tried it yet). Next cruise is August - - can't wait!!

My lap quilt.

Thanks for sharing the fun photo. It's a beautiful quilt, and it is great to see someone caring about giving their stateroom such a personal touch. It's this kind of positive input that makes the DCL board so nice to follow.

Hmm..., the closest I get is probably my Mickey Mouse tie and the 20 iPhone and iPad charges that I bring on each trip, expecting to lose roughly one per day.

Thank you. That's so sweet of you to say. The quilt is the first I made. My whole life I always gave away the things I made, painted, drew, sewed, etc. I do love to create from my heart. But the quilt I decided was mine for me. Just once I was going to keep something for myself. It sounds trivial but in a lifetime of giving all of me, keeping a piece and gifting it to myself has meaning. It is amazing how something as small as a quilt and/or a little pillow can make a room feel so at-home. Plus, naps are BEST with my quilt! LOL!

I should adopt your 20 chargers habit. My teens seem to forget theirs EVERY trip and I end up desperately seeking & buying more along the way.

Consideration, unselfishness, and generosity are qualities I've somehow always noticed in friends who appreciated Disney's magic as much as I do. I am not able to think of anything more valuable to give to those close to me than memories of family vacations sprinkled with a little fairy dust. But now I'll have to think of something personal to brighten up our room on our next trip.

I love what you shared. Thank you!

I bring air freshener called "Nobody's Business," a small travel clock with built-in flashlight to keep on my side of the nightstand, and paper towels that I sprinkle at home with liquid dish detergent to wash out our refillable mugs each evening.

The liquid detergent thing is genius. Definitely will consider using that on the next trip.

I forgot to mention a flashlight. We also bring a night light for the bathroom and use glow sticks in the main cabin area. They last a few days bright enough for night time.
