Strange BLT question - floor numbering?

Okay, we all know BLT is a 15-floor resort. And the grand villas are on the top floor (well, top 2 floors since they are each 2 floors high). However, in the press sneak preview a few weeks ago, the grand villa visited was numbered 8417. I can't for the life of me figure out how this floor numbering makes sense. Typically the first number would be the floor designator, but this is definitely not the 8th floor.

Any thoughts? I can't be the only person who noticed this!

(and yeah, I think I'll add a Q about it to the questions thread on the planning board)

Not for sure, but it could be considered the 8th floor too. If they don't have 1 as the ground floor, or lobby floor, then it coule easily bump numbers down. Some hotels have a "ground" floor, "lobby" floor, etc. They might have the lower floors without rooms as an alphanumeric. As you said, it is 15 floors, but the top two are GV's. Does it have 15 floors of rooms, or is the top actually the penthouse (ie mechanical) floor.

I think it all depends on how they laid it out and if they have any "special" floors that don't use a number for rooming purposes.

I seem to remember, that the floor numbers in the CR are the sum of the first 2 digits...so that would be 12....but I could be totally off...wouldn't be the first time. :rolleyes1:lmao: The 1st floor could be the first floor of rooms (European style). It might be done that way to differentiate from the CR. Like I said...I might not know what I'm talking about.

Yours is probably a little more accurate than mine, i did look at the pics and there is no way it is 8th floor of rooms, but it could be the 12th.

If you look at the 3rd pic in the top row on this page http://contemporaryresort.net/BLT_June_09.html there's a good shot of the bridge where it joins the building. Just counting floors in that view, the bridge joins the building on the 5th floor (as has been reported many times). If you continue counting from there AND skip the number 13 (as the CR does and many hotels in general do), then the GVs are 14/15.

Anyhow, I just think the GV number shown indicates some oddness about room numbering and I'm looking forward to being there in person to see how it works. :)

Since there's a shared check-in, the rooms in BLT are probably numbered to not duplicate numbers in CR. I'm sure there's some code in there somewhere, but it may not be intuitive to read the room number and know the floor. Sort of like at SSR, where the room number only matches the floor number in certain buildings. (Two 4-story buildings next to each other; the first has rooms with floor numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4; the other has floors 5, 6, 7, and 8.) So in that example, unless you have the map showing the building numbers and know how the number scheme works, you wouldn't know that room 3501 is on the first floor.

This is what I'm afraid of. (Well, not really "afraid" but YKWIM.) I can only imagine this will create lots of griping and confusion...

Yes, that's how they figure the floor numbers in the Tower. I'm assuming it will be the same at the BLT. IE: room # 8417 is the 12th floor (8 + 4 = 12). No 13th floor, so it must go 12th, 14th (which is the second floor in the Villas), then 15th (isn't the 15th floor the Top of the World Lounge)? That's my guess anyway...:thumbsup2

Oh good...I wasn't imagining that!:lmao: I think the North wing has a different first # to differentiate, too.
