Storyland NH

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last time. It was fine. Typical. We are trying to decide between the Golden Gables (cheap, locally-owned, great reviews but no breakfast) and the Hampton Inn which has a small indoor water park, free breakfast but costs 40% more for our trip early this summer. Red Jacket seems WAY expensive to me ($220/night for us with AAA discount) for what you get, the sister resort Fox Ridge is more reasonable but you have to drive to get entrance to the water park at Red Jacket.

We love Storyland! Such a charming place. My kids still talk about visiting 2 years ago ... more than they talk about Disney, to be honest! We are driving out of our way from the rest of our New England trip just to go to Storyland and Santa's Village.

I don't remember the food being pricey though it wasn't terrific. We ate at the International food court in the back last time, will try another this time.

Anyone been there in the past year or 2? I'm wondering about the cost of food in the park; is it cheaper to bring in a picnic lunch? Can you do it all in one day? Also any reasonably priced clean hotels recommended? We are considering a trip up there this year with my 4 year old grand daughter and are thinking of staying at the Holiday Inn Express in North Conway. WDW is not in the budget for a couple of years.

Thanks in advance.

We've stayed at the North Colony Motel in Bartlett. It's family owned and very family friendly. You can get package deals to include tickets to Santa's Village and/or Storyland. I wouldn't stay in Conway only because of traffic. A simple 10 min ride can turn into almost an hour depending on day of the week and time of day.

We go to N. Conway often and have stayed at many hotels up there over the past 25 years and by far we think that North Conway Grand Hotel is the nicest. It is right behoind the outlets so you can walk to them all. they have an indoor and outdoor pool with playground. they have a small movie theatre and at different times have ice cream sundae nights for the kids and other fun things. In the afternoon they will put out a snack - depeding on the season - punch and cookies or hot choc and cookies - things like that. They have their own restaurant and bar - all family friendly. In the morning they have a buffet breakfast that the kids eat free at and I believe it is $10/adults - well worth it.

I second The Red Parka - my favorite restaurant up there - so good - salad bar is awesome.

Have fun.
