Just looking for some advice. We have never been and are thinking of going in a few weeks for 2 nights-midweek. Any hotel recommendations? It would be myself,dh and 2 ds's(5 and 7 months). We would love a family friendly hotel. How is the park? I've heard it is great for A.J.'s age. Any input is welcome!!!

It's a great park for children. This will be the first summer we haven't gone in 4 years! Also consider doing Santa's Village. DD liked that over Storyland. I remember going to both when I was a child and I'm 41! They are both great family parks

As for accomodations I can't help you...we typically stay in a friend's condo up there. There are lots of condos to rent by the night and week and that might be the way to go with young children.

We went last year in early June. Have you checked out their website www.storylandnh.com ? We also went up about 45 minutes north and visited Santa's village www.santasvillage.com . I thought both were really cute and very nice places to take young children. We stayed in North Conway at a place called Eastern Inns. www.easterninns.com . They don't update the website often but it was a nice place with indoor pool about 5-10 minutes from Storyland. We paid a lot less than the rate listed (I want to say around $67 a night) so def. call and see if there are special rates during the time you want to go.

I live about 20 minutes from Storyland and drive by it at least once a week. It is only open weekends until the last weekend of June, so midweek is not possible until then. Last weekend was the opening for the year and the place was PACKED. Many of the family groups are led by parents or grandparents who went there as children. Little ones love the park; the entire place is geared to 10 an under. We take my nieces every year. For more information and a park map go to http://www.storylandnh.com.

Just a short distance from the park is the Storybook Motel. I hear it is very nice and DEFINITELY geared to families going to the park. There is a great breakfast/lunch place, Glen Junction, next door. Wonderful pancakes, all kinds of breakfast foods, and a train runs around the room along the top of the walls.

In Conway there are also a 2 or 3 year old Comfort Inn right next door to a miniature golf course, a very nice Red Jacket, a Holiday Inn Express about the same age as the Comfort Inn, and numerous smaller hotels which are AAA rated. The White Trellis and the Green Granite always look immaculate. The North Conway Grand Hotel used to be a Sheraton and directly adjoins a large outlet shopping area. If you want more info about the area in general go to
http://www.mountwashingtonvalley.com.

On thing: My nieces were not familiar with the nursery rhymes and didn’t know what some of the displays were about: Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, Humpty Dumpty, Little Miss Muffett. That would make the trip more enjoyable

Thanks guys!! I'm looking into it now!!

We love Storyland, and always stay at the Green Granite, It is a nice lodge type hotel with an indoor and outdoor pool!

Had a small mind cramp. The hotel next to the outlet shopping is the North Conway Grand Hotel. The Grand Summit is at Attitash Bear Peak.

Sorry !

Well, if you are planning on going around 6/24 - 27 there will be a room opening up at the Grand Hotel in North Conway! That's where we were planning on going until we decided to go to Disney instead. Now that we are confirmed at WDW I need to cancel the NH reservations.

Haven't been to Story Land yet but I know there is a lot to do in that area. My sister has been to the GH and she really liked it - right next to the outlets!

Have fun! :)

Storyland is a great place at that age. I went for my first time when I was 3, then from the time I was 6 until the time I was 10 or 11 we went every year. Also went to Santa's Village a lot too.
We generally stayed with my granparents but we have spent a couple of nights at the Holiday Inn Express in Conway. It's right across from all the outlets. As Holiday Inns go, it's pretty decent. Most people I know have loved the North Conway Grand Hotel, which usually is a little more than the Holiday Inn.
Conway is great for its outlet shopping, so if you have time hit that too-it's about 20 mins from Storyland depending on traffic.
And the poster that stated that most families that go to Storyland have parents or grandparents in the group that went as children was absolutely right. My mom went every year when she was little. My grandparents also used to come along, since they had taken mom there. It's really a great place, and many people go back year after year.

We loved Storyland when the kids were younger. We stayed at Green Granite. It is clean and roomy. Have fun!

Storyland is great for little kids. There are a number of small family run motels nearby that are very nice and very inexpensive (this is a strange statement from a guy who now only wants to stay in a deluxe hotel at WDW). I think there are a couple of links on the Storyland web site. You could also check AAA. They are located in Glen. We avoided staying in North Conway because it is sooo busy witha ll the outlets. We did find a lot of great buys there though. Good luck. jay

The Storybook Motel has a nice indoor heated pool, very important this time of year in the mountains. Family friendly and clean when we stayed there. I also second Glen Junction, the model trains run along tracks on the wall. If you do go to North Conway center check out Zeb's Country Store, they have penny candy. There is also a real 5 and dime store that sold some fun touristy things and a pretty good playground nearby. If you have time don't forget Clark's Trading Post with it's real bear shows. Can you tell I'm a fan of the area!

We took Shawn my 5 year old son there last summer it was great. He could go on all the rides and we had a great time. They have a great gift shop and he got a knight outfit he still wears it. We had a blast!!
Theres tons of stuff around there.

I took DS to StoryLand for yrs when he was little. He had a blast. We usually stayed at the Covered Bridge Bed n Breakfast - they have 2 younger children.

July 4th wknd we're heading back to the White Mtns for 4nights

Thanks guys for all your help. I think we might stay at the North Conway Grand But I'm just about to look into the storybook motel now as well. We are thinking about checking out Santa's Village also-are they basically the same?

JESW-I'm going the 30th-2nd and was wondering what the rate was for your ressies? I got quoted 107.10 a night with AAA discount-is that good? I thought it was.

Thanks!

Kim

Santa's Village and Storyland have similar type rides, but totally different themes. Storyland is sort of like a big story book. They really have the old lady in the shoe (she hands out stickers...). Lots of stuff to go along with Cinderella (pumpkin carriage to her castle, a glass slipper on display, swan boats, etc). Santa's Village is pure Christmas. Right down to the Christmas carols that play throughout the park-even in the middle of July. At Santa's Village, the carousel is all reindeer and Santa sleighs. The trash cans look like penguins. There's a talking reindeer by the entrance (scared me half to death the first time I went there...I was traumatized for a long time after too.)
Both are great places.

santa's village is completely christmas orientated...but its fun too..where else can you get candy canes from santa himself in the middle of july?:D
