Stop Using My Decorative Towels!!!

Haven't read the entire thread, but from reading the last two pages or so, it sounds like you're having fun with this..:)

So - I'll add my two cents.. Decorative or not, I would want my guests (or family) to use them.. Of course that could be due to the fact that I'm extremely cheap and wouldn't waste my money on items that aren't to be used..:rotfl:

And I HATE it when guests touch the decorative food I leave strewn about the kitchen.

My mother actually does have decorative food setting out!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Little pieces of fruit, cookies and pastries, all laquered and completely inedible, setting around at Christmastime. Fortunately she also has the real stuff setting around too. The challenge is figuring out which is which.

this irrates me to no end. I have a embrodry hoop on the back of my bathroom door with a fancy towel in the hoop and then one hanging down. Its totally clear that its decorative and theres awalys a clean guest towel on the towel bar but why must people wipe there hands on my pretty towels?

I guess I was right! Two days and seven pages later...

:scared1:

I guess I understand my mistake now. :headache: I never before realized how serious we all take hand towels! I am SO off to Kohls to buy a bunch of those fingertip towels and a basket to solve this problem!!!

Thanks all, and I am glad my decorative towels were a source of entertainment!!!

Yes, who wudda thunk decorative towels would cause so much conversation indeed? I'm sure you will be pleased with your fingertip towels and basket as a way to resolve your dilemma. :laundy:

Personally I hate it when guests use my decorative toilet tissue. That extra-quilted stuff is too expensive to actually be used. I leave a stack of newspapers next to the can, you'd think they'd get the picture? :confused3

I HATE when guest read my magizines and leave them on top the trash can insted of putting them back in the bucket!:confused3I

I know where you are coming from with this, and it's very 1950's-1960's hostessing. Decorative items in the home that look functional, but are purely decorative, have gone the way of the doily. People born in the 1980's on up are probably going to see all linens, pillows, furniture, etc as functional. Home decor has changed. It may take either creating a more functional, but still charming, environment for your guests and/or putting the decorative items up only for yourself! You can certainly go old school for your own happiness and have it both ways. My mother-in-law has a lovely basket she fills with towels and a pretty, vintage hamper in the guest bath.

another zomibe thread.

another zomibe thread.

And just when I was going to pipe in that we keep paper towels in a nice towel holder on the counter for drying hands. It was a suggestion by our pediatrician a few years ago after DD's many rounds with strep throat. It's really cut down on passing colds through the house and guests never use my decorative towels!

When we have guests, we put out a basket of folded paper towels on the counter by the sink. They work well, everyone knows what they are for and everyone gets a fresh, clean towel.

My MIL did that for a party a few years ago and got many positive comments from her guests.
I like this.

Seems like a more sanitary way for a large group of guests to dry their hands.

Why did you bump this zombie thread?
How in the world did you find it??

My "decorative" towels are meant to be used. When the need to be replaced, I replace them. I'm just not into extra stuff just to look pretty. With the exception of some artwork on the walls, I buy things to use them.

I'm with you. I've simplified my life and things like "decorative towels" that aren't supposed to be used are not something I want. When I have guests, I put out nice clean hand towels and expect them to be used. Then they get thrown in the washer. I don't want anything out that my guests would be uncomfortable about using.

Edit: Whoops! Didn't notice it was a zombie thread. Well, ok, I don't want zombie's using even my every-day towels, humphhh.

My clue to look at the date was when none of the pictures showed up.

That should have clued me in! I was wondering why I couldn't see the pictures, but I "liked" a couple of really old posts before I realized and jumped to the last page.

How did you find this?

I knew the OP hasn't posted here in a while, so I knew it was a zombie thread.

I think I've solved the mystery of the many zombie threads lately. The row of avatars that appears at the bottom of the screen seems to be an automatic "related threads" search. Things show up that have a similar topic to what you're already reading, even if they are quite old.

Even at the bottom old threads from way back are there. I wonder how those are popping up.

It was right at the bottom! I am so sorry. Really, I was totally sleepy and not paying attention. Neurotic towel issues seemed right up my freaky interest alley.
Don't be sorry, nothing to be sorry about, I am just curious why the disboards have old threads popping up at the bottom. I even forgot what was at the bottom now anyway…:rotfl:
