Stop Using My Decorative Towels!!!

I kind of like how some of these old threads are popping up. I wasn't around the community board for some of these so they're new to me!:goodvibes
This one gave me the idea to get some of those Kleenex towels for the family birthday party I'll be having for my twins next month!

If someone hangs a towel in the bathroom, I'm going to use it. If it has a lot of that scratchy embroidery on it, I just think they were too cheap to by a decent hand towel.

I pray to God nobody is stupid enough to start making decorative toilet paper.

Just leave a note on the mirror when you have company:

"Folks, please don't use my fancy towels or the decorative soap; there's an old towel hanging in the shower that we use to dry the dog off and you can use the soggy bar of soap in there....that will be good enough for you. Oh, and there's some cheap dollar-store toilet paper under the sink for you to use because the fancy toilet paper is just for show. Thank you for your cooperation and welcome to my lovely bathroom."

That should take care of it.

Fun reading this old thread from 2009 and seeing familiar posters who don't post here anymore.

OOOOOO A Zombie thread.

6 out of 10 zombies say they would eat any decorative brains on the towel racks. 3 out of 10 zombies said they'd like to have us for dinner to look at their towels. We declined. One zombie was too busy chasing people to answer the question.

My mother had those decorative towels and fancy little soaps shaped like rosebuds or seashells in the powder room, but she EXPECTED guests to use them. Somehow, however, it seems they rarely got used. I guess people thought they were just for show and either didn't wash their hands after using the toilet or wiped their hands on their pants.

Sorry, your God doesn't listen to you,

And if one of my guests DARES to mess up the carefully crafted origami butterflys and bunnys, there will be hell to pay!!!

Zombie thread or not, I have no problem with guests using my decorative towels because I obviously bought them so I could look like I am a classy, put-together person who knows that white and blue towels in a blue bathroom goes together whereas my ugly faded, bleach-stained old green ones do not, however I HATE when my own kids use the pretty towels because they never really wash their hands all the way and the rest of the dirt always ends up on my nice white and blue embroidered towel.

But alas, I am not that "put together". I set out the good towels when we have company and forget about them, then scream at my kids for ruining everything nice in the house.

LOL

The fancier the towel, the louder it screams "wipe your muddy hands on me." Or worse. ;)

If a homeowner gets pleasure from looking at but not using fancy towels, fine. But if you don't want guests using them, put them away when company comes over. Then hang up the rags that are "good enough" for them.

I am one who will hang the nicest towels, kind of for display....
And, I have NO problem with that.
I do this ESPECIALLY when guests are over, so that things look nice.
I just like the way that looks. I am not neurotic and crazy and have issues.

Sorry, OP, but 'a hand towel' laying next to the sink, that is the 'one' to be used by anyone/everyone. EWWWWW.

My simple solution, I keep paper towels right there at the sink.
That way, everyone gets a clean towel, and my bathroom doesn't end up looking bad.

Not to mention the issue with dirty damp towels laying around getting musty.

Ohhh, but wait, GASPS!!!!, paper towels are not eco-friendly.... (so, let those folks flame away!!!!) Becuase, you know what, it is probably way less eco friendly to run laundry with hot water and detergents etc. every time people need to use a towel to dry their hands.

another zomibe thread.
So? Topic is still of interest.

My mom always had decorative towels in the guest bathroom, and they were there to be used by guests. People were always giving her decorative towels as gifts. She lived in her house 53 years and when she passed away we must have found 2 dozen decorative towels in the linen closet that she never got around to using. So if I came to you house, I probably would dry my hands on your decorative towel.

I can understand for a party the idea of having paper towels for the guests. I think with guest towels (for guests staying in your home) the idea is to actually wash them daily, not let them lay around getting nasty. I would never put out paper towels for guests staying with me.

I just don't get the idea of having towels for show. They're towels not curtains. Plus, I hate embroidered thingies. Screams 'old lady' to me.

I put out decorative towels for our guests to use. OP, if you love those towels that much and don't want people to use them, put them in a frame and hang them as a decoration.

Again, Anna, that would mean you are running around, collecting towels, and doing laundry, every time guests visit the restroom and wash their hands.
Or, yes, there are damp towels constantly in the bathroom.
Not my idea of spending time with company.

And, yes, there are paper towels in my hall bathroom. They even make the ones especially for that, as another poster just mentioned. But, JMHO, a roll of nice quality white absorbent paper towels is just as good.

And, I don't know if anyone here has mentioned a home with kids and their dirty hands.
Company or not, the thought of keeping up with clean hand towels would make my head spin.

PS: The special embroidered decorative hand towels that are really NO good for drying hands, used to be a thing.
Many older women might still hang these.
But, that is not what I meant by 'nice towels'.

Ohhhh, and after reading the post just above the one I just typed....

Let's just add this to 'ONE MORE THING TO BE ALL OFFENDED ABOUT'.

OMG, my guest used my fancy towels.
or...
OMG, my guest did NOT use my fancy towels.

OMG, there are actually paper-towels in the bathroom.
