Stop Spoiling Olympic Results!

I second, third, and fourth that, Jennasis!!!

Especially today, please, please, PLEASE, everyone, do NOT post the results of the Ladies' Short Program, and how Sasha and Irina did. Also, do NOT post the results of the Men's 1500 meter speed skate, between Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick.

These are two events the I definitely want to see for myself.

Another bump. I don't want to hear about tonight's womens figure skating until I watch it!!!!
:thumbsup2

IF someone is interested in seeing the results, they can find them at MSNBC or other sources. Why do people feel the need to post these (even as spoilers) on the CB at all?!!! It's driving me crazy. :(

I didn't get spoiled here (guess I wasn't still online when it was posted) BUT I went to nbcolympics.com to show dh the Italians from the night before & there was a pitcure of Belbin & Acosto with their medals on the front page!!!! I was SO NOT HAPPY! There is no reason they didn't make that hidden somewhere on the results page or something....guess I won't be going to their site anymore.

I hate to take the dissenting view here, but if you don't want to know the results of something before you get to watch it then don't read a discussion board with a reputation for spoilers. Go read a trip report or something LOL :teeth:
:thumbsup2 You gotta love a thread that tells other people how to post on a so-called "community board". :confused3 If you don't want to know, better stay off the Internet until you watch it (for the few who are actually watching the Olympics -- it's getting creamed in the ratings by shows like American Idol and Survivior. )

Apparently you have to go to nbcolympics.com/tv to not get the spoilers. But still, they are everywhere. I start up my web browsers at home to msn.com. They have put results on there that have not happened on tv

OMG...I cannot believe how all of you have majorly flamed and bashed goofysk8. Did you not read in the other thread how the word "SPOILER" was mistakenly left out? For crying out loud, give it a rest. Enough is enough. No wonder people have dropped off the CB like flies and gone elsewhere: you are so rude and mean. Over what? Some Olympic results? God help you if it was something major.

This thread has nothing to do with posts - it has to do with TITLES of threads. There is a protocol here that expects people to be respectful and thoughtful of others. Every community has rules and this is one of them here. This board has functioned well with spoilers for a few years now. It's dissapointing to see them back.

I agree. Unlike other shows discussed here these happen throughout the day live. The people who are watching them live should be able to discuss them real time. Especially those members who are outside the US.

A great point. Since many places all but assume people are keeping up live you had best stay off most homepages. Can you imagine trying to not "spoil" the US "Miracle" Hockey win?

i apoligize if i came across as snarky in my post but i knwo my spolier thread did not ruin anything for anyone
if you are complaining about a specific thread maybe you could have PMed theat person the poster in question doesnt have alot of posts maybe they didnt know

Documented where?

And they are not spoilers, and even if you think they are, spoilers to who? Not to non-Americans, and not Americans who keep up through the many chennels that have live footage.

Some rules are not documented, but followed nontheless. It is well established here that spoilers should be in the body of the thread and kept out of the title for those who haven't watched yet.

Discuss anything you want, but be courteous to others by leaving the results out of your title. Because it's such an easy thing to do, it leaves people with the feeling that anyone refusing that courtesy is doing it just to be mean. A thread like this is necessary to point that out to people who have forgotten that not everyone lives in their time zone and maybe avoid the bad feelings altogether.

It's a simple thing, but it goes a long way towards making this a "community board" instead of a "I'll do whatever I darn well want to and to heck with anyone else" board.

I agree that the title of the thread should not give away the results but saying Major Spoiler doesn't give anything away.

The other solution would be to avoid boards where you know people may post spoilers. Now before you all jump up and scream about "don't tell me to stay away. It is a community board and I'll look at when I want just don't spoil things for me." Remember that some of us on on the east coast and some of us are in Europe, so discussions about the Olympics, Survivor, etc will happen when they are over.

To clarify...I have no issues with people discussing Olympic event results. Just stick spoiler in the title (don't list the results right in the title, please) and then hit enter enough times so the post doesn't show in case someone's mouse is accidently scrolled over the title. That's all. Pretty simple really. :goodvibes

While I agree "Spoiler" should be in the thread title I am stunned at how obnoxious many posters were when responding to goofysk8's.

I agree that many posters were unduly harsh toward goofysk8. Perhaps if she made an apology, it would help?

I know she made a mistake and I don't need an apology. I am just hoping that this thread would raise awareness for future thread posters to avoid such problems and keep a harmonious board.

I would be happy if she just edited out the results from her title.

Then just don't read the threads. I don't see what the problem is. It is your choice whether or not you read things. Don't tell others not to post because your don't have the selfcontrol not to read it.

At this point, what would be the point if that? The specific event is over and I am assuming people know who won. I cannot believe that everyone who hasn't watched it yet is walking around with earplugs in and blinders on so they don't accidentally hear/see it somewhere else?

So, if you were listening to the radio on the home from work and they mentioned who won would you call them and throw a fit? Or if you 'accidentally' saw it in the paper first or you didn't get the channel switched before the news announced it would you be complaining "How dare you" to them?

Guess I just don't get this. I understand being disappointed, but some people have been downright UPSET, offended, pouty, rude, you name it over this. I guess for me there are far more important things to be upset about in life and like I said, I understand being disappointed, but being outright rude to the OP over this and expecting an apology or expecting her to somehow fix things is a little over the top imo.

Excuse me, but I re-read the "rules" for this board and saw no requirement about using the word "Spoiler" in a thread. Just another attempt to try to control things to suit a minority.
