Stop complaining, you're ruining the mood!

Yeah! Who are the crazy people who air grievances about a topic that only a certain percentage of the world cares about or understands????

Ohhhhhh.

When others post about poor experiences, you can usually find a kernel of truth underneath any hyperbole, and that can help you avoid something or do something differently so that you don't encounter the same problem.

Reading about others' experiences with FP+ has helped me to better decide what to do for our trips this year. I loved FP- and will miss it, but it would take a LOT for me to have a bad time at Disney. Still, you have to understand/expect a certain level of frustration whenever a change is made that will impact someone's long-awaited vacation.

Just take the negative posts with a grain of salt. There's always the back button.

I can remember when we had that same mentality about Disney. About our 10th trip that began to wear off - I think it was the massively over sold MNSSHP that started the dulling of that Disney shine. Then Disney decided to throw sulfuric acid on that finish by implementing FP+, raising prices and severely limiting the flexibility of its guests - all in the name of improving our experience. Aside from that everything is wonderful.

Like any board, I figure it's best to let the owner/moderators decide what they want on the board or not. They own it and run it, not me.

If there is something that you think is a violation, report it to the moderator by clicking the little report button on every post. The Ignore Function is also helpful, you can ignore members entirely.

The Trip Reports board tends to be pretty happy and helpful. And other places around the internet, the Lines app chat comes to mind. And on the flip side, some other Disney-related forums are way more negative than this.

please tell me HOW to ignore someone?? (I have a list j/k sortof lol) :)

I figured people would complain about my post! LOL. I'm pretty sure the Disney execs don't sit around all day going "How can we annoy millions of customers today?" What about every traveler before 1999 who had NO option other than waiting in line for every ride they wanted? At least now you can ensure a few of your favorites :)
I skim the complaints with a positive outlook thinking-what would a happy Disney-goer do? And I turn into an experience that hopefully will never happen to us.
We have had our hiccups but do LOVE Disney!!

Personally, I find the flip side of the coin just as annoying! For every complaint on here, there's also a, "But it's DISNEY. It HAS to be perfect! You can't say anything bad about DISNEY! No matter how awful things are going on your once-in-a-lifetime trip, at least you're at DISNEY! Yes, you spent thousands and thousands of dollars and aren't able to do half of what you wanted, but you're at DISNEY!"

Call it human nature. Call it the anonymity of an online board. Whatever it is. People are going to look at things and have the attitude they have. We have to learn to accept it for what it is, read it or don't, skip the posts or don't. You're not going to change what's here.

I'm pretty new to disboards, and while there is SOOOO much wonderful information here, I'm kind of surprised at how much negativity about Disney there is. Now, I'm not perfect, and I do complain about specific things from time to time, but the last time I checked no one was being forced to travel to Disney. So why all the complaints? Perhaps a separate forum for Whining, Complaining and Negativity? I don't like clicking on an interesting, informative post that suddenly turns into Disney bashing. If you don't like their policies, old or new, don't go. Simple as that. There are definitely concerns, questions and problems that arise that do need to be asked, discussed and debated and everyone is entitled to their opinion; however some people take it too far. I'm not trying to be all high and mighty, just trying to keep the magic alive and the planning of our annual trips a positive experience! Thanks to all of the wonderful people here!

Perhaps you could gives us a list of which complaints you consider complaints and which you don't. Here's what I've gotten so far:

Not complaining:
Complaining about complaining posts

Complaining:
Everything else?

Perception is everything.
Overall, Disney is expected to be a very high quality experience. The "normal" Disney vacation is exceptional anyplace else. Few people come to a message board to say "yep...exactly what I expected and exactly what happened on previous visits."

So, you have that working against you.
Part #2 is that no one understands Disney frustration quite like a Disney fan. I recounted the ONE visit that was; end to end, an utter disaster to my "normal" friends and family and to them, it just sounds like a disappointing vacation. They just don't understand the emotional attachment that I have to Disney and the parks and how from 180 days out, every night is like being a child the night before Christmas...People here, get it.

So, when people feel they have to vent, understand that it comes from a place of love. If a person didn't love Disney, they would care not one tiny bit what happened in the parks or with their various intellectual properties.

Disboards has always been the place for whining. I've been here since 1997 (planned my honeymoon), and that is one thing that hasn't changed. Call it human nature, I guess.

I say call it the internet. That's what you get when u are sitting behind a keyboard.
I can honestly say my posts are pretty positive. At least I try to be as much as possible. But I'm kinda easy to please.

You said that if people didn't like WDW to just not go.. well, how about you take your own advice and just not read a thread that doesn't sound appealing to you?

The way a forum works is there is a subject line and no one has to click on or read through any thread that doesn't sound interesting or worth their time. Simple as that.

Believe it or not you are not the first to write this exact type of thread. These complaining about all the complaining threads pop up on occasion.

The way I see it is this is a discussion forum about WDW, at least in a complaint thread the poster is actually discussing the parks or something about WDW. Your thread consisted of simply complaining about other posters and asking that anyone who has a complaint be sent to another board so as to not disturb the happy vibe. It could work the other way and send people like you to their own board to only discuss happy Disney thoughts.:)

Personally, I don't mind the board the way it is.. complaining threads and all because I want to read all sides and be informed. I don't want a cheerleading board for Disney, I want a discussion forum where all opinions are welcome. I can skip threads if I choose to.. that is how this works, and I think it works well.

If you don't like their policies, old or new, don't go. Simple as that.

There's nothing simple at all about it. Not unless they start strip-searching us or institute corporal punishment for cancelling an ADR. They are changing things that were useful and happy-making, and they have been messing with their website for well over a year now so you can't ever rely on it, and CMs don't know what's going on and can't reliably give you the right answer, etc etc. It's a big cluster of problems, and it's not as much fun as it was, even in 2010 when we first went to WDW.

But before we even went to WDW, we went to Disneyland, and bought DVC because of our Disney love. We did NOT buy at DLR, though, because I don't like the Grand Californian (oh no I'm complaining!). We bought at WDW.

There's NOTHING simple about it if we decided to just not go.

I don't understand how anyone can be upset about
Disney. Most of the complaints that I've read or not
Disney's fault and is the problem of the one posting it, but
like to blame others.

I wish I were reading the posts you're reading. Alas, I'm reading posts where no one is to blame but WDW.

What about every traveler before 1999 who had NO option other than waiting in line for every ride they wanted?

Do you WANT to go back to those days? We almost are, and then you can get a FP+ to one fave and two "meh" ones unless you really like things that never needed FPs before.

What about every traveller who went between 1999 and 2013 who had TONS of other options than waiting in line for every ride they wanted?

Exactly.

So, when people feel they have to vent, understand that it comes from a place of love. If a person didn't love Disney, they would care not one tiny bit what happened in the parks or with their various intellectual properties.

I agree. It hurts MORE to those who have really enjoyed it, to have a vacation there be bleah. It's like getting into a huge argument on your honeymoon (which DH and I did so I know what I'm talking about). It feels SO much worse than if you'd had that argument a month before, or a month after... To take something that should be awesome and have this black spot put on it is worse than something you don't think should be as awesome.

  • Decline in food quality.
  • Menu changes caused by the Dining Plan
  • Changing restaurant operating hours and then cancelling guest's lunch reservations and rescheduling them for an hour and a half before their dinner reservation
  • Limiting Fast Pass allotments to 3.
  • Not allowing people to get FPs to the rides that they want, and requiring them to select rides that they do not want.
  • Removing water craft rentals from half of the resorts that had them.
  • No more Adventurer's Club
  • $700+ hotel rooms.
  • Discontinuing monorail operations while parks are still operating, espceciallyf or events like MNSSHP.
  • No more "E Ticket Nights".

This list doesn't begin to make a dent in some of Management's head-scratching decisions over the past decade or so. Remind me. Which of these do not originate with Disney and are instead the spectres of the vivid imaginations of Dis Board posters? :confused3

Since this really isn't a theme parks strategy topic, I'm moving it to the theme parks community forum.
