As I was born just before the stabbings at Altamonte ('Gimme Shelter'), and by the time I was kicking around, John Lennon and Yoko Ono had started to do their thing (Beatles were virtually broken up already), I've not seen any of these bands live.

I'm definitely sympathetic. I missed seeing the Beatles live as a group by a couple of years (although I've seen the individual members in all sorts of incarnations), but I'm lucky and honored to have seen the others at least a few times each through the years.

GoofyDad869; The Who are touring the UK this summer, and then coming to the US in the fall. You're obviously a big music buff, and I think you'd enjoy the show tremendously, especially if you've never seen them live before!

The Stones, of course. They're not the World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band for nothing!!

Goofydad869, while it is probably too late for you to see the Beatles (given that 2 of the 4 boys are dead), you know that the Stones are still touring, don't you? In fact, they played at the FedEx Forum in Memphis on December 3, 2005 . . .

It's totally a which day question. Mood has so much to do with this choice. I'm more days a Stones fan but the Beatles, oh, they hold such a special place. Especially since they all have solo and group careers spanning many groups and styles. Both, either, YES!
Oh, and Charade....George.

The Who...hands down.

In my experience, well-meaning people who ask "Beatles or the Stones" and just think of those two groups have, almost without exception, never seen The Who live.

Led Zep fans could make an arguable case as well.....

I've seen all four groups and parts thereof. I've seen the Stones more than any of them due to their longevity. Led Zepplin, well....wow! The Who was a violent concert. I saw them just prior to the Cincinnati disaster and their fans/we were really out of control. Drugs, fights, wilding. The Stones concerts were that way then too. I remember people laying passed out and gray around me while they played. It was more of an event than a concert back then. Almost seems like the music was secondary or maybe the driving force of the culture but not like concerts today where we all sit on chairs and applaud. All four groups have such depth. :cloud9:

It's really just a matter of personal preference. I would say that the Beatles put together an amazing body of work in just a short time and thus win for creativity while the Stones have had amazing longevity. Led Zeppelin was of course huge in their time but they don't really fit in with the other two groups IMO.

I can't really fairly discuss The Who because I absolutely can't stand them. Funny how we all differ so much in taste.

During HS/college I definitely preferred the Stones. But dh is a Beatles fa-na-TIC, so I've learned to appreciate the Beatles more musically.

Still, the Stones squeak ahead for me, I think.

Shadoobie.

The Stones are a great band, but the Beatles changed the world. To Galahad, I'm a Paul guy for the music, but I'd nominate John for the spirit of the band. :)

So how do I interpret being confused with Charade? :)

Which Beatle? Definitely John for me. I love the work he did right before he was murdered. :(

Although I voted for the Stones, I did like the Beatles also, for the most part. Always had a soft spot for George and his solo stuff.

Yep, I know the Stones are still touring... I'm too cheap to pay for concert tickets.
We have a free concert series in the spring & fall every year in downtown Knoxville - my conference room overlooks the stage. Last week was Little Feat.
The one I'm really looking forward to is May 11 - They Might Be Giants.

Sorry for attempting to hijack my own thread...

What a great interview question. It could tell you a lot. I'm a Beatles guy. But a sub-question - if you choose Beatles - the next question is John or Paul?

The Beatles :worship: :worship:

John or Paul? back in my younger years (and his younger years!) I would have said Paul cause he was "the cute one"...now I appreciate the music and I pick John.

Ooops! Same amount of letters and another thread, nothing more. :grouphug: :wave2:

Seems an odd question for an interview to me. How old are your usual applicants? I mean I'm 41 and I don't really think of either of those as "my generation". Now, if you want to ask about Journey and Styx, REO and Foreigner, Cheap Trick and Eagles, then I can have an intelligent conversation. Ahh, I miss the 80's.

Beatles, but early Beatles. Once they got into that Yellow Submarine they got a bit weird..

Seriously, though, they brought great harmonies and guitar chords to rock and roll. They also tuned their guitars, which seemed to be rare back then.
