Stay offsite and pay for perks?

I would rather just not go than stay offsite. One of the major draws for me is the magic of the resorts and just being inside the Disney bubble.

The has been my thoughts in past trips, but the bubble is beginning to pop.

I actually priced a trip yesterday to compare what I might expect to pay in comparison with the trip we have booked in September staying in a budget. We don't go for the more expensive rooms, simply because we are not in our rooms except to sleep , shower and change. If the parks are open, that is where we are.

I was surprised that the price difference was not nearly as great as I had anticipated. And since we fly and would need to rely on hotel transportation, I'm just not sure we would stay offsite.

But after this trip, I'm not sure when our next Disney trip will be anyway. I'm a little disgusted by the new Disney, to be honest. I sent an e-mail to Guest Relations yesterday voicing my concerns. Nothing will happen of course, but I just wanted to share my feelings.

I'm in a similar boat. I'm not feeling a "how dare you Disney, I'll show YOU" sentiment. . . . It's just that change gives you a jolt and makes you take a closer look at all the pieces of the puzzle. We've always known that our on-site stays are more expensive than a comparable off site stay but lots of little reasons (not the least, the Disney Bubble) put us onsite with little calculation.

Rising dining plan prices, add-on events (which may effect the experience of non-event goers, and may effect the offerings of free EMH), potential resort fees, are all changes that make me reach for the calculator and take off the blinders about the quality differences of onsite vs offsite lodging. And that kind of thing could turn people like me from an automatic "All Disney All Day" customer to an offsiter who buys offsite meals and maybe even looks into other parks or venues for part of our vacation.

I think that not going at all just because of being offsite is pretty harsh. It's true that you have to deal with transportation but there are amazing places to stay with beautiful amenities and some even have theming. We initially stayed only onsite too but we decided to fan out and discovered some pretty nice places. For a while I decided that I'd rather visit the parks whether onsite or off but now the parks are themselves becoming less and less alluring. It's strange.

My last few trips have been offsite.
We stayed onsite for years at Deluxes, but just couldn't bring ourselves to pay the extra any more.
I will admit I've got an upcoming trip that is five nights with three at Dolphin at a great discount and two nights at ASMov. It just works better as we don't have a car for a change since we are coming to town for a conference....otherwise we wouldn't be going at all. I don't think we will swing for extras this trip.
