Wow, that's terriable. Well I guess you could consider me as "them kind of people" too, because I can't get away from a horse farm for more than 5 nights. Horses don't even know what Christmas is, can you believe it?! LOL! We even work Christmas day. LOL! So, I have only taken one 7 night cruise in my entire life and I'd like to say it was for my honeymoon, but that fell during a horse show, so we only got to spend two nights at Disney. LOL!

I personally would never consider anyone "them or those" kind of people. Heck, it doesn't matter how or why you got on the ship, once onboard in my opinion every one is equal. I believe inside, outside, balcony who cares as long as you get to go on a cruise! Thankfully everyone I have ever met cruising has shared my view.

Maybe you'll be my table mate next cruise, I'll be happy to be your cruise buddy. :)

It never amazes me how some people can be so what is the word I am looking for????? oh yea snobbish. We are all equal and Just because some people can afford better accommodation then me more the power to them. I book a cruise to get away from reality and to get to be on vacation is to have a good time with good honest People and it does not matter where they are from or what they can afford. Some people Still think this is the Titanic days where you have upper class and lower class that is not the case. Some people can not afford what others can it is not fair to teat people like such. No matter what room you sleep in or how many days you go on vacation, It is a vacation for crying out loud Have fun and meet all kinds of people. In the long run it will come back and bite her Meaning the snobby person because one day she too will have to sleep in the same quarters as us them type of people.:scared1:

Three day cruises are great! They have lots of "yella" and "blue" on the buffets (think Randy Quaid in Vegas Vacation), everyone washes their clothes in their stateroom sinks and strings 'em up to dry on the verandahs, the young un's bring their soap and bathe in the pools and the jug and banjo band is second to none. My favorite adult activity is the moonshine tasting where you get to try three different varieties. And the cool thing is, the staterooms are more spacious than my trailer so I feel really upper class on those shorter cruises. ;)

Amazing how in a thread condeming class distinction that someone could making such an offensive and disrespectful joke. If that's not a perfect example of someone thinking their better than the type of person their making fun of I don't know what is. What's coming next? Insulting jokes about people in wheelchairs or some other handicap? Maybe a little self reflection by anyone that makes this kind of joke or thinks it's funny is in order. I happen to be someone that has employees that come from the background you find so humorous and if I ever heard one of by "Big City" employes making such a joke the next signature they would be making would be on their application at the unemployment office.

Sadly there are people who think that because they have cruised on a number of cruises, a longer cruise, a special cruise, or in concierge that they are better than others. :sad2:

How we each vacation should really be what make us happy, not what others think. I usually book a verandah because I enjoy the quiet time out there, but I would never think less of someone who didn't book one or think more of someone up in a suite. I've been on a 3 day, many 4 days, a number of 7 days and even a 10 day. I've enjoyed them all, mostly because I was with the man I love on each of them. On almost all of these cruises we've met fellow DISers and have enjoyed their company. It didn't matter to me what cabin they were in. I enjoyed their company because we had gotten to know each other here on the DIS and we had one important thing in common - a love of Disney and cruising.

Life's too short to let judgmental people get to you. :)

All I can say is wow!!! Luckily I have never encountered such behavior on a DCl cruise. We have cruised in insides, outsides and verandahs and have done 3, 4, 7, 14 day cruises....depending on the budget at any given cruise. We have had the opposite encounters on our cruises. We always seem to strike up conversations with people and find people lovely and engaging with the common denominator being a love for travel and/or Disney and spending time with the ones you love.

Hopefully that person was one in a million. We have not really found much difference in types of people on shorter versus longer cruises except on the our 14 TA cruise there were many more heavy duty Disney fans...same with the MV of the Magic. There were fanatics of DCL...not just fans. There was one couple on the MV that felt because DCL did not do more for the MV cruise in terms of celebrations, etc. that they trashed their cabin, put cigarette burns in the furniture, etc. They were put off the ship and banned from DCL.

Some people!!!

I know I started this thread and YES, I did think this was funny .... life is way too short to NOT think things are funny ...so I am glad I don't work for you because I would be on the unemployment line. Currently, I live in SC ... but let me tell you my Dad, Uncles, Aunts, Grandma and Pappy were/all born and raised in the hills of West Virginia .... yes this is how they talked and we still joke about it today .... Nobody was "making fun" of anybody !!! :grouphug:

BTW, I can remember my first trip to WDW in 2001 and we were staying at All Star Movies :scared1: LOL !! Anyway, I was so wanting to stay at the Polynesian and was actually pouting a little on the bus ride the first day over with my husband and two kids ..... when this guy beside me leans over and says, you may not believe me but I am a lawyer in NYC and my wife is a professor but with 5 kids we always stay at the Values and get two rooms because we can all spread out. I sat up a little straighter and guess what, now that we are a family of 5 we always get 2 rooms at the values, 1 for the kids and 1 for us (adjoining of course) .... 4 beds,.... 2 bathrooms and still cheaper than a deluxe most the timel.

I do not think I am better than anybody, we are ALL PEOPLE that God put on this earth !!!!

BTW... I guess you never thought the Beverly Hillbillies was funny did you ? You know with the cement pond and all that ???

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE !!!:santa:

Ink,

I love your reply and it made me laugh out loud.

Thank you!

Just expanding on this a bit, be it situations as described in the original post or other stuff I am guilty of letting things bother me and affecting my attitude on our vacation.

I admire your attitude and hope to be more easy going on our future vacations.

i had a verendah on my first cruise and havent had one since. i always get a inside cabin since my first cruise. a couple of times i had a gty cat 12 and both times i was upgraded to a port hole room. you figure what you make an hour after taxes and see how many hours it will take you to pay the extra. to me its not worth it. the little extra money i do have from my paycheck i would rather spend on other things.

That is insane. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I don't play into money as a judge of anything and, even if it did matter, choosing a stateroom does not show how much money a person has.

My DH and I (and kids), could easily afford to stay in a more expensive stateroom and yet we choose to stay in connecting inside staterooms...sometimes on deck 1, the horror!!! We just don't see the benefit of paying more (personal opinion). When we stay at a deluxe resort at WDW, we get certain perks (better pool, better food options, better transportation options). As for a more expensive stateroom....the way we see it, we're all on the same ship with the same ammenities, and truthfully, my goal on a cruise is to spend as little time as possible in my stateroom.

In the end, why I make the choices I make on staterooms, shouldn't matter...because that is just a pitiful way to judge a person.

Jess

:thumbsup2 With 5 of us, we either have to book two rooms or book a Cat 4. We did a Cat 4 once - NEVER again!! It was way too small for us. I'd rather "suffer" with the extra space, two TV's, two bathrooms and additional privacy that connecting inside or outside staterooms provide.

We too were huge fans of the Value for the same reason. Although we could afford the CR or Poly, we preferred the Values for the extra space. Every child got their own bed, we could shut the door between the rooms if we wanted and we had two bathrooms and two TV's. I don't know how many times I can watch the Disney Top 10 while getting ready in the morning!

We recently joined DVC and plan to stay in two BR's on our future stays. However, if given a choice to stay in a single room at the Poly or two rooms in the Value, I can guarantee that our entire family would still choose the Values!

OP: I truly have a hard time believing anyone would ever say that to another person. I think I would be dumbfounded and feel sorry for the person. Maybe I'm still just a naive kid from the midwest.

she got this horrified look on her face got up and got her son, who was playing with my son, and said, "honey, let's go it's not proper to play with THAT class of people" YES< I was called people !!!

She demeaned herself with that attitude, not you. Feel sorry for her, she must live an unhappy life in her suite.

Next time just say, don't worry son they sit down to do their business like the rest of us!

That woman was on a 3 day cruise, just the same as you were, and it's not a terribly unreasonable price for a "suite" on a 3 night cruise....so I don't know why she thought she was so doggone special. :sad2:
If it were a 14 night cruise and she'd paid for a suite, she might have something worth getting her knickers in a knot....in her own mind, anyway.
How rude. I just have trouble imagining someone saying that right to another person's face. :confused3

Also on my cruise I just finished on the WOnder I ran into someone at the pool and as our kids played we started talking .... almost an hour went by,, she knew my name, what I did for a living and what my husband did .... after that hour she asked which type of stateroom we were staying in ? Verandah or suite ? I said oh no, we are in an inside stateroom on deck 2 .. I AM NOT LYING, she got this horrified look on her face got up and got her son, who was playing with my son, and said, "honey, let's go it's not proper to play with THAT class of people" YES< I was called people !!!

This reminds me of a couple DW and I met a few years ago in the Disney Theatre on the Magic. We took the empty seats next to them and the gentleman immediately had to tell us that they were only cruising Disney to be with their grandchildren and that, when they are alone, they "would never be seen on any cruise line except Silversea"! They then showed how refined they were by taking a series of flash pictures of the show (although they must have known that flash photography was not permitted and, since they were in the front of the theatre, would annoy the cast).

We just came off a 4 night (Dec. 5-9) on the Wonder .. not a 3 night .... like I said, a 3 night just would seem too rushed .....

I just had to LOL at her ... my son wasn't even phased, he is 7 he thinks everyone is equal, he said goodbye to his friend, with whom he was playing with later in the Oceaneer Lab LOL and went on his way to the Mickey Slide. I just sat there and thought to myself, what a sad, sad person and then sat back and enjoyed the sunshine :sunny:

Kids will be kids. Your son reminds me of when my oldest was younger. His best friend was from India and they spent a lot of time at each other's houses playing and even having sleepovers on weekends, etc.

One day at school, they got into a verbal fight and started calling each other names like typical 7 year olds. Nothing that bad - things like stupid, idiot, etc. Another teacher overheard the fight and suggested that my son go to counseling as he was "racist". :confused3 That night, the boys were back playing together as best friends again. Adults sometimes live in a whole other world, don't they!?

We are not born with snobbishness and prejudices. We have to be taught. I guess some parents are better teachers than others...oh well, luckily, in my experience this is very rare on DCL cruises. It seems that almost everyone is there to have fun!

Wow, the person I feel the most sorry for is that ladies son. By isolating and being such an elitist, she really is missing out on relationships with a lot of wonderful people out there. And limiting her son also. She showed no class and acted in an tasteless manner, all of which is her reason for not wanting her child to play with yours. In her mind the inside cabin catagory is classless and tasteless. Its pretty Ironic. She is what she implies others lower than her are!

We have done a 4 day cruise in a verandah suite and a 3 day cruise that I had booked in an inside suite, but we were upgraded to a porthole. For the amount of time we spent in the cabin, the verandah suite would have been a waste. My youngest DS was 3 at the time though, so it was nice to have the verandah while he napped. We are from MN and choose the shorter cruises, because we visit the parks for 3~4 days also. We tend to only have a week to visit FL. we want to do the parks also. I guess I can't compare the people on the 7 day cruises. Maybe we'll get to when the Fantasy sets sail. As of now, we are booked on a dummy date on the dream and that only does the shorter cruises.

What's a dummy date ?:confused3

What's a dummy date ?:confused3

a Dummy date is just a date you pick so you can get the onboard discount or the cheaper price for something, but I will probably be changing the actual cruise dates to another time. Depending on school schedules.

I'm glad I'm not the only one on here on Christmas eve. I'm trying to make my work shift go by faster. The DIS is great for that.

What's a dummy date ?:confused3

It is when you book a cruise onboard to take advantage of the 10% discount and additional OBC's. However, if you don't know when you're going to actually cruise or if you plan to cruise on a date not yet available, you book a "dummy" date cruise. That's a cruise far in advance that you have no intention to actually go on. When the cruise you want opens up or you make a decision, you transfer your dummy date to cruise to an actual date. By doing this, you keep the 10% discount and OBC's (for Silver CC members - it's generally $100 for 3/4 night cruises and $200 for 7 nights).

I have to say, these things go both ways. We were at an all-inclusive last year and got two rooms (adjoining), one for us and one for the kids, who are little. A woman at the pool was complaining about how exhausted the kids were since everyone was going to bed at the same time and looked to me to agree. I made agreeing noises, but obviously they weren't enough. When pressed, I said that we had two rooms and she went off on me about how rich people didn't usually come to this resort and how she couldn't imagine wasting so much money on something like that.

I let it go and didn't really talk with her after that, but I was surprised that she'd go off on me like that. We have two cabins (adjoining) on our upcoming cruise too. I don't care what other people do as long as they're not ruining my cruise (partying all night in the cabin next to mine and the like). I figure a vacation is a great chance to meet all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds.

It's too bad the OP didn't meet other people who feel that way.
