Ok...I am considering getting lanyards for my girls and a few pins to start trading and collecting on our next trip.....What kind of investment will we be making? Moneywise I mean. I don't think I want to do it if it is going to cost me $10 a pop.

I'm not a collector. If I see a pin I really like, I'll buy it - so far I have four pins (I told you I have to REALLY like it :) ). I don't know what the lanyard starter set costs, but my pins have run anywhere from $6.50 to just under $11 each. It is not an inexpensive hobby. If you think your daughters will meet new people at WDW, and if you think they'll treasure the memories and the pins it could be worth it, but it isn't cheap.

We didn't expect to get bitten by the pin bug but the kids did and it was a fun thing for them! They used some of their own $ and we bought some for them. They did a little trading with Disney CMs and it makes a great souvineer that you can use on other trips. You could buy a non-Dis. lanyard before you go and save $ on that! Just a tip, my kids had the GOH badges with their names and put them on their lanyards and lots of CMs addressed them by name which can add to the fun.:D

jldriscoll - I've been looking into a "starter" lanyard for my DD and Me too - don't knoe if I'll get into trading but what a great way to start a conversation. Anyway I found the following on line sites for pins the first had some of the best prices

www.pinstore.com

www.hardrockpins.com

www.pinshoppe.net

I think any lanyard will do.

I was considering this at the Disney Store yesterday. The lanyards weren't that expensive. $15.00 apiece less 10% disney club discount. I'm thinking I will go back and get one for my son to take when we leave on Saturday.

The lanyards each come with 4 pins (2 different pins). One to keep and one to trade the package said.

We bought one yesterday at the Disney Store. It cost 15$. Then we bought a few pins to start. I have two dds and we bought a lanyard for one and about 4 - 5 extra pins (ran about 4 - 6 $ a piece), then we bought three pins for the little one (dd 3) that we will put on the leash thingie we are going to strap her in while at the parks. I will also be buying them guest of honor badges.

I am going to give about 20$ to my dd (10) to buy extra ones with at Disney. She is very shy, so I am hoping she will actually trade.

Does anyone know anything about the pins that light up at the different areas of the parks? Are they different pins for each park? And how much are they a piece.

I'd also like to know if I can get them ahead of time anywhere?

15.09 apiece (at least they were at Christmas time). I bought mine at my resort before going to the parks. Be careful with the backs, they slip off so if your little one is wearing it, they might get poked.

I bought some pins 50% off at the Disney Store in May before we went to WDW specifically for trading. There were 2 pins in the set for $3.50. I wish I had bought more. My 2 DDs had fun. It's interesting to see which pins attract them, especially my 4 year old. She traded for a Indiana Jones Movie pin and she has never ever heard of that movie or character. The CMs are very friendly and nice to the kids.
