Star's Hollow ~ The Gilmore Girls

Ok, its cold and frosty outside, but unfortunately no snow for us yet :sad1:. So I have settled down on the sofa with a nice cup of tea and popped on the TV for my daily dose of the Gilmore Girls... I love this time of day.

Well yesterday I saw an amazingly funny episode where Lorelai and Rory go for Friday dinner with Emily and Richard for the first time since Rory left their house. The dinner goes through a series of arguments over just about everything that has been a source of conflict between the four during the show so far, Lorelai not marrying Christopher, her parents trying to come between her and Luke, Rory shouting at Emily and leaving without telling them, Emily trying to timeshare a plane, Emily and Richard not supporting Lorelai on the Rory issue, and with each argument came great laughter for me. Mainly from Lorelai's sarcastic wit and her and Rory's disdain from having to join Friday night dinner every week again.

Today's episode is only part way through but I am already chuckling at the thought of Lorelai dressed in her own Yale tracksuit, and Paris holed up in her Hitler like bunker cooking soup whilst the rest of the paper scheme to over throw her outside. Can't wait for the rest :thumbsup2

I saw this one almost 2 weeks ago.
So glad to hear that you're enjoying, as usual.

Do you usually get much snow?
Today it is quite rainy and chilly, here in NY.

No, we don't really get much snow. Usually we only get about 3-4 inches maximum, not enough to lay properly or to be any fun. We normally get the most around February/March when it may get a little thicker and if you go to the moors it is sometimes thick enough to do a bit of sleighing. But only if you get there early and it hasn't been used to much and turned to ice. And when it does snow it doesn't snow for long. I really want to experience proper snow. I would love to come to New York around christmas when its snowy and cold and I can ice skate in central park and see the christmas lights. Have you had any snow there yet :confused3

This is one of my favorite shows, and an odd show out because I am usually into shows like LOST, or Buffy, and Deadwood/Rome from HBO. The writing and characters are so well done that I was sucked into their world.

HEHE you like my show!!!!! :rotfl2:

How about a question to start...

Who is your favorite, most well-played character?

It is SOOO tough for me. Maybe Sookie, just hilariously acted by Melissa McCartney. But then there was Kirk, especially when Luke is burning the food, or Mrs. Kim. SO hard to choose!

But in the end, for me it has to be Emily; so well-played by Kelly Bishop!

Oh, tough question!
I am a lot like Lorelai and have a similar relationship with my DS12. And DH and I have a relationship like Luke and Lorelai.

It's hard I like all of them, but if I had to pick one it would be Sookie. DH said Sookie or Luke.

We haven't had any snow, yet, and I am quite happy about it. As lovely as the snow looks when it falls, a day later it is slushy, dirty and slippery. Very dangerous for driving and walking.

There are many more places for ice skating in NY these days. One of the most popular places is Rockefeller Plaza, where they light the large Christmas tree at the beginning of December.

Thats so cool you have a relationship with your son like that, your family life must be so much fun and so lovely.

Sookie seems to be a popular choice here. I would love to know why everyone loves her so much :confused3

The Rockefellar rink sounds good too, I think I would have to do both :). When do you normally start getting snow then? I bet its crazy there at the moment since its nearly Thanksgiving and not long till christmas. I mean its busy around here and its not anything like NY.

This is one of my top favorite episodes!! I watched that one over again the first time I saw it. And a few times since :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

This thread is so funny! I love to Gilmore Girls and tried googling Stars Hollow a couple times because I want to know where it is! Good to know I'm not alone in my obsession. I even got my brother turned on to this show. He loves the witty banter. :lmao:

But he also got me to watch Buffy, Angel, and Roswell. Three of my favorite shows!

Hmmm.. My favorite character... This is hard. Probably Michel. He's such an uptight whacko sometimes. I just love how he refuses to do his job! :rotfl:

That is such a hard question!! Kirk is hysterical, Emily is so obnoxious that I love her, Lorelai with her witty comebacks and Michel with his vain, snobby remarks and Sookie so cooky. I would never be able to choose. just one.

Those are all really good choices. I love all of them, as well as Taylor and Jackson and Lane.

I was never all that fond of the Jesse/Rory relationship though. He has too much angst.

For me, the reasons to watch the show are: Emily, Luke and Kirk.

I actually don't like Lorelai (she thinks so highly of herself it's a wonder she can breathe from the rarified atmosphere she's flying around in) or Rory (whiner who needed a few spankings in her childhood). And Sookie makes me want to pluck out my eyes with a knitting needle.

I agree, I love Michel too, hes so funny. And what you say about him being an uptight whacko is so right, just today he was having a go at Luke about wearing a cap, and eating a sandwich and talking to the Inn customers whilst he was working. And then him and Lorelai went out for lunch to make a list, and it ended up having hundreds of really ridiculous jobs on :lmao:

Thanksgiving time is usually the earliest that we get real snow(not just flurries). This year, though, it will be in the 40's - no snow!
It is quite busy here in NY year round. After Thanksgiving, everything gets busier. I love the crowds in NY and the lights and decorations at this time of the year.

It sounds good. New York is definitely somewhere I want to visit very soon. It just sounds so cool and interesting with so much to see and do. We nearly went this Summer but ended up going to Pigeon Forge instead. Maybe 2010 though :thumbsup2

I do hope that you get the chance to visit NY. There are so many things to do and see! I've lived in NY my entire life and still haven't seen all of the sights.

What would you recommend to be the best things to do and see then? And also what are the best restaurants?

Statue of Liberty,Top of the Rock,Empire State Building,Fifth Avenue(stores galore, like World of Disney, American Girl Place, FAO Schwarz),Rockefeller Center(Today show is taped there every morning),Times Square(Good Morning America taped there every morning),SOHO,Columbus Circle,Central Park, museums. I could go on and on. When the time comes, we should talk!

I am not the right person to ask about restaurants. We really don't eat out. I could probably look up some things online. I'm sure there are many NYers on DIS who can help.

Thanks for this. All the places you have mentioned are places I planned to visit, there is just so much to do :thumbsup2

I went to the movies this morning so I missed today's episode. I'm curious to hear which one you watched today.

Episode #3 of season 1 was on here today. I'm bummed that I've never seen the last season in reruns.
