Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

Just saved 4500 points each (so 9000 points total) by changing my basic fare. It was easy. I changed the current basic fare to choice (which cost more points), then changed the choice fare back to basic at the new point value (and got the choice points back). Kudos to @eticketplease for sharing the info on how to change a basic ticket- I wouldn't have thought this was possible (although it IS stated on SW's website).

Glad you were able to save points!!

Sorry I can't take credit for that as if it was something I posted it was just something I have learned here from one of many great posters on this thread such as @Mackenzie Click-Mickelson @TheOneWithTheTriplets @EACarlson @focusondisney
There are lots of great posters in this thread that I have learned a lot from as to be honest SW is not my favorite carrier but it is the only one I can get a direct flight to MCO with.

Credit card points came through today and I am starting to get concerned that we won't make Companion Pass for next year. We normally never have a problem, usually qualifying Sept/Oct and also usually make A List. I know they've restructured the point system, but this is kind of a gut punch, half the points we were collecting a year ago. If we don't make CP next year it just doesn't make sense to stay with SW anymore.

I do register for promotions often. There's one now but you have to spend $50K within 3 months, but that feels like an absurd amount.

That is great! Sadly, we could get 25K points back, but then we would have to pay bag fees. We do not have the cc and we booked in March, so right now there are no fees for us. :(

As @pooch mentioned that is a lot of points.

How many people are travelling with you?

I'm not sure where you are but I used Dallas to Orlando on 12/16/25 as an example.

You could get 5 tickets one way of course you would have to pay for bags.
However if you have 5 people on your current trip and all are taking 2 bags each right now it would be a wash but if you didn't need 10 bags then you would come out ahead.

With buying 6 bags (5 for each person + 1 additional bag) you are saving the equivalent of $180 by saving the points

25K points will not always get you the same "mileage", especially now. The point value fluctuates based upon time of the year and what SWA thinks the value of the points are.

I could get the SWA credit card, but that adds $100 as the annual fee is paid up-front.

What time do they put up the new flights tomorrow. I want to be able to do it early before I leave for Buffalo. I guess I could do it on my app while driving but I would like to get it done before that. Thank you.

That is true and I provided one example.

However points seem to be worth at minimum $0.01 each so multiply that by the savings of 25k points nets you $250.
You said baggage would be $140 so that is a savings of $110. You can still bring a small carryon for more clothes if needed.
