Star Wars uninspiring?

I've read various reports about SWDAS and, with the exception of those Star Wars BIG fans, people seem a little...meh.
Is that because people are pirate night loyalists or because it just isn't so exciting......?

I think a lot of the "meh" reaction was because SWDAS was sold in a press release as something bigger and more exciting than it turned out to be. When we booked there were supposed to be celebrity Q&A sessions and a bar was going to be transformed into Mos Eisley Cantina. What we got was nice... But it wasn't quite what we were sold when the cruises were first announced.

I won't steer anyone away from SWDAS, because I think it was still fun (and the special menu was fantastic). Anyone booking it now will have a more realistic expectation than we had.

My kids are hoping for multiple viewings of the movies. They don't need meet and greets or Jedi training. They want the movies. Now, a Q and A would be awesome, I think.

I think some felt a "meh" vibe because they were expecting a lot. For us who came into the cruise knowing only a little about Star Wars it wound up being out fav day! It was so cool seeing people dressing up, really running into characters (stormtroopers are super fun), and for me watching TFA in that huge Walt Disney Theater was a memory I'll forever cherish. It was worth every penny and def. recommend going on a SWDAS cruise! :yoda::chewy::darth:

I agree with this. We were on the 1st SWDAS cruise and it had been hyped up. It just wasn't what we were expecting. It was a fun day. But a lot of the things we were expcting didn't happen.
Since you're asking my son & husband dressed up which is something we don't do for pirate night. And, IMO, the menu was much, much better than the pirate menu. So, no, we're not pirate night loyalists.

Why do they not have a Star Wars cruise on May 4th this year? IMHO, it was a huge missed opportunity.

I thought it was completely "meh". I am not a huge Star Wars fan (I have enjoyed all the movies, but not really into any of the fandom stuff) and booked prior to the SWDAS announcement. I was actually kind of worried that it would be too "Star Wars-ey", but that was completely unfounded.

Really, besides the fact that there are pretty much only Star Wars movies playing in the theaters until after SWDAS, there wasn't much in terms of Star Wars on any day beyond the one SWDAS. And even on that day, it seemed like they pretty much just swapped out the "normal" Disney character themed stuff that happens on a sea day for Star Wars themed stuff ... Star Wars costumed character meet n greets, Star Wars dance party, Star Wars trivia, Star Wars evening show (The Force Awakens), Star Wars Fireworks, etc. If you are a Star Wars fan or have a child that is, then I think it would be a fun addition to a cruise, but not really a reason to book a cruise or to pay a couple thousand dollars over and above what DCL usually charges. It was definitely not a Star Wars con at sea with memorabilia, celebrity panels and thrilling insights into the Star Wars empire.

that's fine with me....1 day of Darthness will suffice with me and the DGchildren.....I just wondered if it was hype or what.............

I'm a Star Wars fan and booked on a SWDAS cruise for January 2017. I did read some of the previous SWDAS navigators and it looks okay to me but obviously it would be better if they had celebrity panels. I'm also a big fan of Pirate Night and I still plan on dressing up for that night as well although I did hear it wasn't as popular like on other cruises. I'm crossing my fingers that the Force is Strong with my SWDAS Cruise.

IIRC, episodes 1-3 are shown only once, 4 might only be one too. I know 5 was shown twice one night (I caught parts of both showings), 6 might have been twice one night too. 7 was shown 3, maybe 4 times.

Zootopia on the other hand, probably played 10 times.

I think this is exactly what people had in mind. And by "celebrity panels", I wonder how many folks got the impression (however unrealistic it may have been) that they'd be seeing Harrison Ford and Daisy Ridley instead of, like, Steve Sansweet.

And if you have to ask who the heck Steve Sansweet is, you're just proving my point. ;)

I was on the April 15th Star Wars cruise. I can tell you that a LOT of guest wore costumes that says. Some of them were quite elaborate and some were quite clever (a guy dressed like slave girl Leia and Jefi Smee to name a few).

When in January? Is it western or eastern carribean? We are booked January 7 and hoping the force is strong too... Same as the lot of passenger will participate on pirate night .

We are on this same cruise! There will be a Star Wars day and a pirate night? I thought it got swapped out. Do you happen to know if you can get passes for any of the character meet and greets for SW (like they do for the princesses)?

On the SWDAS cruises there is still a Pirate night. Just not as played up. Like Pirate night lite. No Pirate menu, and no fireworks.

I'm a star wars fans but the prices seemed to be like a $2k difference for a verandah room so we passed... but if the price calms down in the future, I can totally be down for it... sounds like the best part are the enthusiastic guests who go all out with costumes. Loving these photos...
