Star Wars Themed Resort at DHS

Extremely interested in our party of 8 doing this in March of 2020 (if its open by then)....HOWEVER that price of $8k (ish) for our party will definitely mean that we will be staying off resort for the remainder of the trip.

not a bad compromise to have the best experience you can on property and then enjoy the parks from offsite.

I would love to stay at a SW resort but only as a "regular" deluxe. I don't want to pay extra for meals/events.

It makes me think that the resort is already planned, its the 2 night 'story' that I think they are floating out there. Even then, I have a feeling the way its worded that maybe this would be a soft opening/preview type of event, maybe a one-off.

See, while the number seems pricey, I doubt it's high enough for Disney to make it work. Deluxe resorts easily surpass $500 per night, so add every meal, interactive story elements and park admission, the $1,000 seems rather low per person.

This is the point I made back in the beginning of the thread. I think it's priced too low.

On the other hand, a lot depends on the size of the "boutique" hotel as well as how deep the experience goes. The theme and decoration is a one time cost. I'd assume any droids they have roaming around are simply extensions of things they've already built for SWL. Characters primarily appear at meal time, but maybe you have one or two different ones at all times within the hotel as part of the adventure. The flexibility of the experience would determine how many CMs are needed. If it's a common time, scavenger hunt, breakout type experience you may not need too many extra CMs. Most of the CM supervised portion could be done at common meal times and common "adventure" times, which is why the meals are included, but the bulk of the adventure is directed "free play" time where you search the hotel and SWL for items or clues necessary to complete the adventure. If any one has done MagiQuest with your kids, think of that kind of thing built into SWL and the hotel, but only accessible by people with the Magic Bands denoting boutique guests and 1000x better in storytelling and world building.

A couple dozen computer terminals set up within SWL that respond to and give participants special instructions and deepens the story would go a long way to making the experience without further manpower. Those same screens can be used for a different experience for regular guests. Give certain people at the SWL gift shop and other places a job as "helper", providing clues for people who are stuck or lost, but mostly they do their regular jobs, and the CM cost is pretty low. Basically you have the over-arching adventure, with CM needs mostly at meal times plus one time in a special gathering place within SWL itself. Then you have 4 different experience type gatherings, lightsaber training, pilot training, walker training and maybe something less adventurous. If you've divided the occupancy into 4 groups for the "adventure", so that meal times are assigned easily, you can use the same 4 sets of CM minders to run one of each experience at other times.

Either way, I'm picturing a 50-100 room hotel with room for growth if it proves profitable in the long run. I also think if it proves successful, it's an expandable concept. A Pandora boutique would be the obvious place for a similar adventure, especially if the sequels prove to be lasting hits. But it's a slam dunk to start with SWL with the rabid fan base that is known for spending money.

Would this be the first time Disney has used a 3rd party survey company? Right now this sounds more like a company that might want to approach Disney with the idea and show the demand then Disney actually feeling it out. I mean anyone can draw up some concept art and slap it into a survey.

I'm not denying the fact there might be a Star Wars boutique hotel but seriously they've never done something that would force people to pretty much be at the hotel for 2 out of the 3 days of their vacation. On top of that it sounds like a ton of staff just for that cost to make sure it is "interactive" enough. I'll believe the immersive concept when I see it. The only way I see it happening is if they are building this inside Star Wars land but then only having 1 park day would be interesting if that is the case. We will see though maybe I'll have to eat my words but this just doesn't seem like an idea they can deliver on.

It's actually possible that this survey did come from Disney. Swagbucks is an online rewards site and one of the ways to earn rewards is to take surveys. I assume other companies pay Swagbucks to run surveys on their behalf.

I just am not putting much into a survey from there. I just got the Galactic Nights Survey and I would imagine it would be better to survey people there who are Star Wars fans and clearly willing to spend extra then it would be to put the survey up on something people usually use to make extra cash so their budgets are tighter. Just my opinion though and of course I could be completely wrong on the nature of it.

I also found that the CEO of Swagbucks parent company used to be a Disney executive. Not saying this is legit, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

Sounds cool, but since my wife has no interest in SW I can't see spending $2000 for a 2 day event for what would be something that just interested me.

i can't imagine disney building something that can hold 400 people max. that is nothing to them. i would imagine 2 towers (so you can check in any day of the week and they just rotate which is the check in tower) with 200 rooms per tower. that gives them plenty of space. Even if they drop some of the theme and experience if they build this it could always be a new hotel. They need to build a new hotel with all the new hotels going up at Universal anyway.

The concept is pretty horrifying...to be honest.

The Star Wars Celebration convention this last weekend in Orlando had over 70,000 in attendance:

Fans will pay for a themed resort.

The question remains: is this a good idea?

They are off their rockers on pricing already...so boutique hotels won't cause more trouble, eh?

This is the part where I say what is obvious except people can't see it: there's no guarantee those parks will be there forever...they can blow it up...it can fail.

Just saying.

::yes::

If you look at their concept art, they are poor screen shots and they have been cropped at bottom and corner to remove any credits as to source. I don't think these came from Disney.
