Wow. I think this whole board watched a different trilogy and movie as I did.

I gave the entire trilogy an F grade for the worst start-to-finish big budget trilogy I've ever seen.

As for this solo movie, I give the grade a C-/D+, on par with The Last Jedi, but to decide which was better, I'd have to watch them both again, which will never happen.

But, my kids (the boys - the girls wouldn't go) liked it - and one, when I was spouting off that this was all lightsaber battles, spaceship fights, force use, etc with absolutely no plot or story, said "yeah, mom, that's what Star Wars is." So, yeah, if you like that, then this was nirvana...and it was for him:). So, I can't be upset. Just amused the movie fell into a so bad it becomes funny category for me:)...

Completely agree. The entire trilogy is a slap in the face to an OT Star Wars fan, or especially someone like me who spent a lot of time reading every original EU novel. The stories in the now Legends books are leaps and bounds better than this trilogy. But unfortunately this is what we’re stuck with. Kylo Ren was the worst “badguy” we have seen in a SW story. Rey‘s lineage seemed to be dreamt up at the final hour. There’s just no feeling for these characters. And they killed off the original 3, so at least I’ll never have to watch another one since there won’t be any Luke or Han.

Dang, we might be twins...I also read every single one, until Disney wrote them all into Legends...and never picked one back up since:)...I lost interest when the whole EU world was ignored, and never felt connected to picking up the Disney sponsored new books...

I'm not far off on the entire Trilogy, maybe C- even D+, esp for what it could have been. But this last one just had so much to try and fix from TLJ.

I liked him being back much more than I thought I would. But I want to know if he is actually dead now, or will they just keep bringing him back whenever they need to fix a story line.

He Voldemorted himself with his own curse Force lightning. And I think between Rey and Ben they got all the Horcruxes. Should be done now.

Could always dredge up a new Sith acolyte in the future. Could Maul have trained apprentices? A splinter Sith line?

I don’t actually care that you disliked the sequel trilogy, but it bugs me when people “no true Scotsman” about it. No, it’s not a slap in the face to OT fans. We’re all OT / EU fans too.

Wen't through the same thing with the Prequels. No true Star Wars fan could possibly like them unless they were 5 years old. Oh wait, I did, and I was in my 20's and I loved the OT. Obviously new content isn't going to please everyone, but you can't lump everyone in the same boat. I *gasp* liked TLJ and ROS and I don't really find them as many think they are.

I'm an OT Star Wars fan..saw New Hope as a kid in the theaters back in the 70s..and I certainly don't feel slapped in the face at all. So I guess I'm not a "True" OT Star Wars fan, as people love to say these days. I think the Sequel Trilogy has been great overall. But that's just me..certainly not gonna claim to speak for anyone else or a group of fans. Btw, I read original EU novels too..bought the comics..played the original Star Wars arcade game..had one of those cheesy original "lightsabers" that was a white plastic tube and a hilt, etc etc...so I think I've got at least some cred if we're listing "credentials".

Love all of those movies!!!!!! 😏

One thing I really like in the sequel trilogy is how you feel the anger when Kylo is battling. He swings the light saber with such anger and force it’s really how I always thought a sith should fight.
It is how Rey fought in TFA.

Second worst SW film for me only behind Attack of the Clones. I really liked EP7 and was good with EP8 minus a few things but poorly thought out overall trilogy made for this last one feeling like a cluster flop for me.

Felt like there was a lot of story that ended up on the cutting room floor...or the reshoots were massive and that is all they could get done to crap out a movie.

I hope Disney sticks with the TV shows for a while and regroups with an actual plan for movies like the MCU.

Fandom background...
Grew up with OT on VHS & as a little kid my fav was Jedi and least was Empire.

In High School through College for Prequels...Liked the oddity of them but also felt like some things should have been different.

After TFA & before TLJ I read every cannon book they were putting out...and that left me disappointed after watching TLJ because of the info in the books not showing in the movies.

I finally saw it tonight. I had to wait for my son to come to town.

I really enjoyed it. Great movie. I'm still processing everything I saw and I need to see it again before I'm prepared to rank it against the others.

I personally think all the entitled whiners and haters of TLJ made this a really tough movie to make. I think they did the best they could to try to please everyone.

I am kinda with you regarding Palpatine ... Like who cares the intricacies of how he came back - it's a movie univers with space wizards with glow swords. Let's just trust there is a way he can come back and go with it and enjoy it!
The thing with bringing Palps back is it sorta goes against the whole Lucas/Anakin/Choosen One story line.

Well that's the thing. I loved TFA and enjoyed TLJ, but there had to be a vessel for redemption for Kylo Ren.

Just like someone else stated, the balance went out of whack again in the original EU. It's not going to be fairy tales forever. Anakin: "bring the balance back, like I did" kind of covers it's a repeated theme.
