I want to emphasis I liked the movie. But for the life of me I cannot understand how you can invade a Star Destroyer in space orbiting a planet to take out the communication tower and NOT have space suits? Is there a magical atmosphere surrounding the Star Destroyer???? Oh well, as I said before several pages back, there were things I just had to laugh about after the movie that I did not think about as I was watching.

All of the ships were still within the atmosphere of Exegol. They were not in space, it was just nighttime (assuming Exegol even has a daytime).

I do not believe that was the case. But if that is your story go ahead and stick to it. LOL.

It is stated in the movie. The reason they need the signal tower is to leave the atmosphere because the atmosphere has so much static charge in it it messes with their navigation. If they were already out of the atmosphere they wouldn't need the signal tower at all. I mean, yeah, it's a sci-fi stretch if I ever saw one, but that's the explanation.

I don't think they ever went for this mess of a story line. I think it just happened because then never PLANNED it from the get go. It was all an accident.

That's what I'm kind of saying. This shoot from the hip was a better idea than what Lucas presented. And that's pretty scary. LOL

I don't think it mattered. Disney wanted to go their own way. They were going to hit up all the nostalgic fans by bringing back the old characters and make sure it couldn't be done again going forward by killing them off. The old universe would be fleshed out in Star Wars Stories movies and they would build their own universe after concluding the Skywalker movies.

Unfortunately Solo probably put paid to the Star Wars Stories, at least on the big screen. With Kenobi on D+ maybe we will see the continue fleshing out there, but we aren't going to explore Lucas's ideas any more. It was always going to be all Disney going forward and it will be interesting to see how they do.

I have high hopes. While Luke was a childhood hero, and I really disliked his story line in 8, Star Wars to me wasn't about Luke. It's about combining SciFi and Fantasy. Space and magic. So long as they keep the Space Western and the Force Fantasy elements they can run just about any character up on the screen and I'm happy. The proper weaving of these elements, and some mildly cohesive and entertaining stories built around it, are Star Wars to me.

Start trying to explain magic with science, the hidden world of midichloriens (sp?), and I might start snoozing on the recliners in the movie theater. Just let the magic be magic. Let the scifi be scifi. Sure that means double the plot holes and never ending arguments, but it's also the hook that Star Wars should always exploit. It's where it stands out so well from almost everything else in either genre (Weedon's short lived Firefly aside).

I think Lucas even knew nobody would have like his idea for the 3rd trilogy. News dropped in 2018 that Lucas wanted the 3rd trilogy to involve the 'microbiotic' world of the midichlorians. Yep, because everyone loved the midichlorian mess of the prequels, lets just turn that up to 11!

We got what we got from Disney, but it sounds like the Star Wars IP is in better hands than what Lucas wanted.

Hatred is no a tough word. But TLJ was god awful from a story telling point. Terrible from a "middle act" point of view. The ideas and themes it was trying to portray were just fine. I like Luke's fall from grace. It was just clumsy and awful at what it was trying to do.
Highly, highly disagree, but that's ok.

Disney thought they could shoot from the hip and have something better than Lucas’s idea. Without really knowing in at least some detail what he planned it’s impossible to say if they were right.

KOTOR would be a great place for TV shows. I'm not sure if those stories need a retelling on the big screen.
In no way should they retell them at all, they don't need to; that's not what I was saying. KoToR proves they can write whole sagas without a connection to Skywalkers. There is such a huge pile of lore, history, territory, empires, etc... that they don't have to limit themselves in any real way to a specific place, time, or genealogy. They just need to include enough elements to establish they are in the Star Wars universe.

I think a retelling of KOTOR would be great for Disney+. You need a longer format than a few 3 hour movies. Just imagine it given the Witcher treatment.

But who would want to see Han and Leia’s son acting like a murdering wretch? "I hope Han and Leia's love produces a terrified, homicidal servant of the Dark Side..." I think that was the point, not that villains in general have to be "just so."

Yes, that's the conflict.

I’m not interested in arguing with anyone over their opinions on TLJ. I hated the way it made me feel when it was over, I hated the direction they went with Luke’s story. I absolutely loved RoS, and I’d prefer to focus on that, and all the positives I listed in my original post.

And I hated the way TROS made me feel when it was over, but I won't still be talking about it two years from now, which is what I was getting at. That's all.

I only mentioned it in reference to how I felt about the new movie. Other than that, I haven’t really thought about TLJ much since I walked out of the movie theater in whatever year it was released in theaters. ✌️

I'm not a die hard Star Wars fan and I certainly don't know all the ins and outs of all the sub plots but as a movie fan, I liked this movie a lot. I thought it entertained the whole way through.

The more people I talk to the more people say they liked TROS but as time passes having watched it, the less they like it.

I think there are a lot of moments in it that I know I was jazzed about seeing it in the moment but as time passes maybe the impact of those moments is lessened and also just the more discussion one has with other fans and about overall story arc and stuff

So I can see that - come off the emotional high of some of those moments. I still feel overall favorably about it, but don't disagree with you statement

I liked the movie, it was a good popcorn flick and I was entertained. It will have no lasting emotional affect on me. I'm a huge star wars nerd (or I was). But this latest trilogy is not one that would inspire as many kids as the OT or even the prequels to become future star wars nerds.
