The excitement building of seeing the medals reminded me of a story, my best friend was doing 2012 WDW 1/2 and she refused to know what the medal looked like, even at expo she avoided the RD booth, so that when she crossed the finish line she would be surprised, and she was.
Well I can't do that lol.....

I am a huge hockey fan, Go Preds!, and every year they award the Stanley Cup. Everyone has their own superstitions but a popular one in hockey is if you touch "the cup" before winning it, you will not win one. So mine, which started earlier this month with ToT, I can look at the medal all I want, esp for training motivation but I cannot touch it until it's around my neck at the finish line.

Oh man, I don't think I'd have the willpower of your friend. That and I 'know' so many people running that the photos bounce around my peripheral so often I don't think it would be possible for me to avoid. But props to her, it must have made the finish line that more exciting and memorable.

And another hockey fan here too (Sharks), so I get that superstition 100%!

Totally could not do what your friend did. I will say that when I did Nike SF last year, once the necklace was leaked online like a day or two before, I avoided facebook cause I didn't want to see it. And that was hard and it was just 2 days!

I like your superstition! Hockey fan here too (Sharks) so I completely get it!

Jessica I love that you are a Sharks fan living in Anaheim :) Are you originally from the bay area? I swear I had a conversation with a CM in DCA a couple years back and she was a Sharks fan, originally from the Bay, and she had commented on my Sharks shirt I was wearing. I can't remember exactly where in DCA I was though at the time.

Haha, it could have been me for all you know! There are two things I will comment on a guest wearing without fail: anything runDisney or anything Sharks related.

I am from the Bay Area (about 45 minutes north or San Jose) and I've been a Sharks fan from day 1. My dad took me to their very first game when I was 5 and I've been hooked ever since. He's grew up in Boston and a huge fan of the Bruins and when he was living in California he was just excited to have something to share with me.

I'm hoping to get back to the Bay for at least one game this season. The Sharks are playing the Ducks here on the 26th and I wanted to go so bad but I've got work. BOO!

That said, there are a few of us Sharks fan working at the resort. It always makes my day when I find them.

On another topic, who all is actively thinking costumes? I know my friend that I'm running with wants to do themed costumes and I'm finally in a mood where I really want to make it happen. But Star Wars is not my area of expertise. Can anyone throw out a few costumes ideas for a pair? I am so not creative in this aspect.

I'm looking forward to seeing the costumes! There are lots of fun potential pairs you guys could go as. How about Padme and Leia? Or Han and Chewy? (I imagine Chewy just wearing brown, maybe with a bandoleer?) R2D2 and C3PO? Or you could contrast and run as a Rebel and a Storm Trooper.

I'm running as a scaled down Darth Vader for the 10k. Still trying to figure out if I want to decorate a small water bottle as DV's lightsaber.

I thought that was unbelievable she was able to do that myself. She stayed away from social media entirely.

In a simi Star Wars related note, I am prob an hour away from being a uncle. My Nephews name is Lucas Harrison (yes and yes) his baby room is all Star Wars with Death Star rug, light sabers and action figures on the walls.

We settled on something today actually. We're doing a Wall-E theme for the 10K and for the half we aren't doing anything character wise, but she's going to represent the Rebel Alliance and I'm going to represent the Empire. I'm super excited for what we have planned.

Its a small world! I love seeing other Sharks fans, especially when away from Nor Cal and the Bay.
I wanted to go down there for the game on the 26th since its my bday and what better way to celebrate than Disneyland and a Sharks game. But it just didn't happen.

Congrats on your new nephew! Hope everyone is doing well! And love the name!

I wouldn't be surprise if it was at Avengers and not W&D. Just to make us sweat longer. It being a DL race and all. But I've definitely got my fingers crossed for Wine & Dine. Or you know, a photo through the blog/twitter/facebook first would be amazing.

Yeah, you're probably right about Avengers b/c of DL. But I'll be happy w/ that too as long as it's soon. ;)

Tons of props to your friend for not looking, I don't think I would have the willpower to do that. I was surprised at NYC last year and liked the surprise, but if it was out there in social media no way I could stay away. :rotfl:

I totally get you on superstitions. I am that way about LSU football and especially right now w/ the World Series... it's an all time high. I have to wear the same accessories every game and the same clothes to the games that I've worn the past few times b/c they've won while I was in them. I'm probably worse than the players.

Congrats on the nephew and love the name!! My sister had my niece 2 months ago and I am in love. Unfortunately, she's not a big SW fan, but I was able to convince her to dress my niece in a Boba Fett onesie Sun morning of the 1/2 since that's what I'm going as.

I can't wait for the costumes either! :goodvibes I was thinking about something from Spaceballs, but wasn't sure if anyone would get it. So for the 10k, it's either a Storm Trooper or SW Leia for the 10k using my white skirt from Avengers and Boba for the 1/2. 5k will probably be a regular running outfit, b/c it's going to be a long couple of weeks. But once I get back from Avengers I'll have to get working on everything.

Kirstie ~ non Disney related, but did you get the email from SF w/ the medal today? I loooovvee it and combine it w/ the shirt, I am so glad I caved to run it.

Yes LOVE LOVE LOVE the medal for RnR SF! I'm even more excited now! I'm glad you caved!

Finally back in my room after a looonnngg day. Went to the expo and..... We have medals people!! Hoping this works, I'm on my ipad.

The Rebel Challenge is a spinner, Yoda on one side and Vader on the other. Kinda surprised at he 5k, thought it was Ewok themed, but love them anyways. Best part is it settles my costume debate for the 10k.

I saw a few photos of the medals all over Facebook this morning. I'm excited to see them in person at Avengers (totally stalking the Expo even though I'm not running - my schedule is out and no event shifts for me sadly).

My friend is disappointed with the image they used for Yoda on the spinner. It's too cartoonish for her. Also - did you happen to see if the medal actually said 'inaugural' on it? From what I can see it doesn't.

Every Medal has Inaugural on the ribbon except I believe Kids and 5K but upon further inspection looks like the 1/2 and kids medal do not actually say Inaugural on the medal itself (pretty sure the kids races never do)

I love the medals! The 10k threw me off at first but it's growing on me the more I see it. I went to the gym and ran after seeing the medals and I could tell I had a little more pep in my step with the visual motivation. Now we have the 60 day window for reservations and the digital guide should be out in a month def getting more and more exciting.

Hello everyone!

I'm running my first race at DL. Hopefully it will get me the coast to coast medal if I am able to sign up for the 2015 WDW Wine and Dine.

I had a question for those of you who live locally. Does anyone know what the temperature might be like for the race? I'm assuming it will be cold in the early morning and then gradually warm up, but does anyone have any idea of just how cold in the morning? And I really have no idea what the average temperature is for DL in January once the sun does come up. I'm going to be Darth Maul for my running costume and I'm trying to figure out how warm/cool it needs to be.

"Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them" by showing pictures of the medals. I definitely felt it yesterday during my 7 mile run and first back to back. Didn't seem quite as long.

I found this blog post with up close photos of all the medals.

Unless it's on the back somewhere, the 1/2 medal does not say inaugural. But since it's so perfectly themed to the Throne Room medal after the Battle of Yavin IV, I like that they don't say inaugural. But that's my Star Wars geek.

The Rebel Challenge medal does say inaugural.

The close up of the 10K medal has me liking it more and more. I love the background behind the stormtrooper as it feels like something from the Tantive IV.

Both the 10K and Rebel Challenge medals are growing on me more and more, but they will never eclipse the Throne Room vibe of the 1/2 medal.

It's California, so there's always a chance for something random like a heat wave or cold spell, but the past couple of years it's been a tad on the warmer side. During the day, I've been in shorts and a t-shirt. Race-wise, I've been in capris and a short sleeve shirt the past 3 years and been fine. I had a garbage bag for the corrals last year and didn't use it. 2 years ago the 5k pre-start was cold, but as soon as everybody filled into the corrals, it was fine.

Basically ditto what Kim said. The last two years for Tink I was in a short sleeve top and either capris or a skirt and been very comfortable. I always have a throwaway sweathshirt with me in the corrals and I ditch it around mile 1. Actually last year since I was staying at PPH and my corral time was short I didn't even bring the sweatshirt down with me for the 10K or half.

I don't have my outfit planned yet for this year but I know it will be a running skirt and Id even be comfortable in a tank I think. Of course thats precluding any storms coming in.

Kim - How was Wine and Dine?

Okay. Finished, but barely finished, literally. Had a few minutes before the Balloon Ladies. My lab died Late Wed night right before I left Thur morning, so it really wasn't a "disney" trip if you know what I mean. The 5k course was at Animal Kingom which was neat. The 1/2 was in Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot and you got to run under the Osbourne Lights which were incredible. It rained from the start until 10k-ish and then again from 9 on and started pouring just as I finished, but I like the rain so that didn't bother me. There aren't as many people as WDW and Princess, and the runners were waaaaayyy nicer and etiquette savy than Princess. I think being a West Coaster also really helped b/c it wasn't like you were starting at 10, it was really 7. My head just was not there and I never got into the race before or during; was thinking about dropping out every mile until about 7/8 and my foot was really tender. I liked the course and would totally do it again, but mentally, it was the hardest race I've ever done. But I finished and have an official time so I'll get a regular C2C medal to go w/ my pink one next weekend which is good.

Now I just have to get home, and do laundry, and repack... :faint: but that's okay, b/c I'll be in DL for a more "disney" trip in a few days and it's good practice for Jan. :goodvibes

Oh Kim! I am so very sorry about your doggie! My Lily girl died the Wednesday before my very first Tink. I almost didn't make the trip. I completely know how you felt. Mentally, physically...I'm so sorry! Big big hugs to you! Thats so hard to deal with.

On a brighter note, so happy that you finished despite everything and that it was a good race experience as far as the crowds around you went. I hope your foot feels better for Avengers! Lol and yes great practice for January :)
