Star Wars Galaxy Edge is Adding OT Trilogy Characters to the Land

They are finally allowing Luke, Han, Vader and Leia get to walk around the land starting on April 29th. The Time line is finally dying and allowing more fan favorite characters to be in the land

This to me, is part of where the land went horribly wrong. You either need familiar characters in a new place (original trilogy characters in Batuu) or less familiar characters in a recognizable place (sequel characters in Tatooine).

Honestly, I don't know they didn't split the land into two eras to start with at Disneyland (I know they couldn't at WDW due to Galactic Starcruiser). Did they forget legacy fans exist?

My 6 year old son loves Star Wars. You would think he's into the newer characters. When we visit Galaxy's Edge, his question is where's Darth Vader?

A 6+ year mistake for the ages (since the land opened).

This is good, should it be day one? Sure but we have different leaders and they see a way to improve the land and are doing it

Its only good news for me, I support this and will go to the land more

If only they could modify ROTR to also include legacy characters! It's a great ride and has grown on me over time. Still such a missed opportunity to only use new characters!

Unfortunately this is after I will be there. But I am not sure my travel partner would care about characters or not.

If only they could make it Hoth...might seem a bit cooler back there then...

But ever so happy they are making this change...but why not BEFORE all the SW nights? Now I may have to rethink my dates...

I don't think this will affect the nites characters

This will only affect day time characters

That said, I support not having a "timeline" for it and just letting anything Star Wars be used.

Now that I have been able to actually ready about what is actually happening, my question is how much of these transformations will effect operations? Will they need to close parts of the land to do anything major? And something I didn't think about before will Millenium Falcon have down time for the switch over to Mando ?

Star Wars Rise is going down soon, so I think they will update what they need.

The shops will close you assume soon and should not take too long to update the basic theming and merch

But Rise sounded like it wasn't getting any updates. That will be "Resistance Camp" and till using the Sequel Trilogy characters. Smuggler's Run is going to fit into the Post OT New Republic/"Mandoverse" era, which also has Ahsoka. The area near Oga's and the First Order ship/stage is for OT/Luke/Vader stuff. And yet, no Prequel/Clone Wars zone. *sigh*

That's a very good, in-depth article about the upcoming changes and how GE has evolved. Thanks for posting about it.

I don't have an LA Times or Apple News+ subscription but was able to read the article by turning off ads on the TImes' website.

But the timing makes me think....we could get lucky and see some small changes to the ride. If not cool but just saying the ride is going down around the same time they are announcing changes are coming to the land

I think it is routine maintenance with no changes coming just as Disney reps reportedly told the LA Times in the article referenced upthread. It has been 6 years since the ride first opened, and it has never undergone a planned refurbishment. It may be convenient though to work on minor cosmetic changes in the land during this time since there will almost certainly be less foot traffic back there while the ride is closed.

Agreed. It's coincidental the refurb is happening right before the changes to the land. I don't believe it's related in any way.

Any "updates" that Rise get, I don't think will have anything to do with this change, as that area is remaining in the sequel-verse.

I am mostly concerned about how long we think Smugglers Run might be close for the change over to Mando. We are there 4-6 days before it premieres. I am worried now that this might be closed, along with some of the surrounding area.
