Standard Room GF or Poly

If you had to choose between a standard room at GF or a standard room at Poly which would you choose and why???

Let me start off by saying I have not stayed at GF. But with that being said I would choose the Poly over anywhere. For my wife and I half of Disney is the atmosphere, and the Poly IS Disney for us. The GF is beautiful and we are sure to visit there a little every trip, but to us it just does not have the same Disney feeling

Well I did stay at the GF but it didn't stay at the Poly. I have visited the Poly many times. But if I had to choose I would pick the Poly over the GF. I really didn't care that much for the GF. I know, surprised myself, but it's true. Go figure!

I have stayed at EVERY WDW resort except the POP. My FAVORITE is the Poly!!! My second favorite is the Contemporary followed by the Grand Floridian and Port Orleans Riverside. I would definitely pick the poly over the GF. The room size is larger and the ambiance is just 100x better IMHO

We are trying to decide the same thing. Have already stayed at GF. Had room upgrade and loved it. So many people raving about Poly, we have ressie for Poly in Sept. though thinking of changing to GF as not much price difference. Any opinions to help us decide?

I would choose the GF over the Poly. Just looking at the GF as it sits there on the banks of Seven Seas Lagoon fills me with a certain calmness, ~sigh.~ Click here for aerial view of GF (DisneyPix).

When I think of the Poly, I don't have that same feeling of calmness: click here for aerial view of Poly (DisneyPix). I think I get a little too excited. Maybe that's because I'm thinking of the male hula dancers' legs at the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show.

No matter which resort you choose, have a lovely vacation. You can't go wrong with either resort.

We have stayed at both several times in a variety of rooms. We truly love the different themes.

Last time in a GV at GF we were in the Boca Chica building and had a lovely/sedate/calm view of the pool.

Last time in a GV at the Poly...we had a wonderful room, ground floor looking directly at the Volcano pool and to our right the lagoon and GF.

I think you can and will enjoy either...just choose which "theme" you think better fits your mood on this trip!

I agree to go with which theme appeals. I've never stayed at Poly so I can't really help there but I've stayed at GF a lot and LOVED it! Request GV in Boca Chica and you will hopefully get a view of the "quiet" pool. I LOVE it there. I don't have any desire to stay at Poly but I'm sure if I did stay there I'd love it like all the rest seem to...

Just my .02 and very personal opinion - we have stayed at both the Poly and the GF (granted it was many years ago) but I would take GF any day. We stayed in Conch Cay building which is out by the dock. It was so peaceful and beautiful to stroll out there in the evening and watch the EWP. It was also a great view of the castle. My children were 4 and 8 1/2 at the time and they loved it. I actually don't remember much about the Poly, so I guess I wasn't captivated by it. But there are so many Poly lovers here, I'm sure you will have a great time at either one!

Let me start by saying that we love the Poly.

Do you have kids and if so how old. That might make a difference. The Poly is a more kid friendly resort. Now I have to confess, that opinion is based only on visits; we have never stayed there. I think the transporation options are better at the Poly too.

I'd give the GF the edge in the restaurants, but you can always walk over and take advantage of those from the Poly.

I just love the Poly but when we walked over to the GF on our last trip my DH loved the GF. I think the Poly is more relaxed. At the Poly you can walk to the TTC to catch the direct monorail to Epcot.

We are staying at the GF this fall and I am so excited!

Looks like we'll be changing from poly to GF. We're using Disney 7 for 4 offer, so don't know when chance to afford GF will come around again. Thanks for all advice!

We love GF (kids included). We stay in Sago Cay with a marina view (GV price). Last time you could see space mountain from our balcony. Gasparilla's is right there so it's convenient for coffee or snacks, and you can see the Fireworks from the marina at night. It's quiet and very special. We're going in July and requested Sago Cay, but who knows. Maybe we'll even find another building we like better. July 2005 is our long (2 weeks trip) and it's lagoon view. I'm desperately hoping its a MK view. Have fun at GF!

We have stayed at both and would choose the GF. We did not care for the Poly at all. I still love to go visit and eat there, but it just didn't hold any magic for us as overnight guests.

The GF was beautiful and we are planning on going back in a few years on our 10 year anniversary (hopefully staying main building concierge )
