hi everyone. i'm hoping to go to wdw in june w/dbf. i am 26 and dbf is 23. i'm still in the process of trying to convince him to go as he has never been. i checked availability for our dates and we can get a studio at ssr or okw. i have no idea which one to stay at. i've stayed at okw in a 2 bdr in dec 2003. i really liked the resort. the only real problem we had was w/the busses. i'm concerned about transportation as i am not sure if we will rent a car or not. i like the idea that we can walk to dtd/pi from ssr. i'm sure we will spend most of our nights at pi. how are the busses at both resorts? my other concern is that he likes his food and he isn't much into fast food. since we will only have a studio i think we will be eating out most of the time. i can not picture him eating a lot of microwaveable foods. if we do not have a rental car, would we be better at ssr b/c it is close to dtd? how is the artist's palette? when i was at okw we cooked mostly so we didn't try olivia's and i don't remember there being much of a selection at the carry out place there. i have printed out info from the dis and from allearsnet to show dbf so he can make a decision, but i would greatly appreciate any feedback from thoise who have stayed at ssr and/or okw. wish me luck that i can get him to go too so i'm not doing all this for nothing. thanks so much.

In your case, I think a studio at SSR is best, because for just two of you, you will have a sofa and a bed plus a small table and chairs. This is a bit more comfortable for a couple than the 2 queen beds and table and chairs in the OKW studio. I have stayed in both, and I think the bus service at OKW the past year has been spectacular! We found more buses coming for OKW than for SSR last fall. They use the same bus stops at some of the parks, but have different buses. OKW has 4 bus stops while SSR currently has just two which you could be a distance from.

OKW is my home resort and I love it! But in your situation, SSR might be a better choice. It is a very easy walk to DTD with many restaurants to choose from. The Artist's Palette does not have a large selection and we never ate there when we stayed at SSR last August.

Also, the studio at SSR, as mentioned by the previous poster, has a couch and bed, which makes it easier to spend time in the room and be comfortable without constantly having to lounge on the beds. The bus transportation at OKW has never been an issue for us, but you would have to use buses to access DTD. Being able to walk there from SSR is an awesome perk, IMHO. :cool1: We rarely rent a car, preferring to use the buses. But you would not really need one if you plan to eat out a lot at DTD. The bus service to the parks from SSR was fine last summer.

I would agree in your case SSR is likely to be a better fit for your needs.

Artist's Palette was definately one of the nicer food courts I've visited, it is still however just a food court. If you're looking for full service dining you'll have to make your way to DTD or use one of the hotels in that area. You also have the option of making your way to the Crossroads area, it is walkable ( I'd guess about 20 minutes from DTD) if you're in good health, but in June it's going to be a little sticky by the time you arrive. A taxi isn't going to cost you big $$ and the saving in food costs ( over DTD or hotel costs) would justify it, it's 3-4 minutes in a taxi. However if you're planning on using a taxi a couple of times a day ( even on short trips, it'll come to $15-20 a day) it'll probably end up cheaper and easier to rent a car at the airport and use that for your trip.
Depending on what type of food you (he) like there are some good places to eat. The Outback Restaurant in the Wyndham ( DTD) is an excellent steak place (if a little pricey) , Benehana's at the Hilton (DTD) offers an excellent tepanyaki counter (better and cheaper than the one in Epcot IMHO) . At Crossroads there is Olive Garden, Reb Lobster, Pebble's Island Grill , TGIFriday's , Chillis and a whole load more.

Hessie628, what were your dates? We are tossing around a last minute (2 months out) trip also in a studio, do you know if any of the other resorts had studios available? If you dont like buses, try for BCV or BWV, if every night will be PI though-recommend SSR.

I would agree that for a young couple, SSR's closer proximity to DTD will be a plus for you. You'll have the ability to quickly get to DTD to avail yourself of the restaurants there, and since you are planning to spend time at PI, you'll have a quick trip "home" at night after your partying is done. I alos like the idea of the room having a couch and a bed...makes it seem a bit less "hotel-y".
