SSR food court & main pool seem too small for size of resort?

Does anyone think these two areas are too small for the size this resort is going to be?

Just wondering why you think so. Do you have some type of map that is drawn to scale? I haven't seen one yet.

Or are you comparing SSR features with one of the other resorts?

Best wishes -

Actually, I'm just asking what others have thought based on what they've seen so far.

From what I have seen in pictures the food court seating area seems to be small and so does the main pool. Course, these are just pictures and I haven't personally been there.
I have read from reports that some were surprised by the size of the pool, thought it would be a little bigger.

This resort will be the largest of the DVC resorts, correct? I was wondering if others thought they made these two areas large enough to accommodate the size of the resort.

I think it all looks beautiful. Just making an observation...

I don't think the food court will have the use compared to the moderates since most rooms have kitchens. I think more people might pick something up and take it back to the room rather than sit there and eat it. We got to OKW around 8:00pm a couple weeks ago and decided to go to POFQ's food court to get a pizza. We brought it back to the room so that we could stretch out in the living room and watch TV while eating it.

I think the food court was sized based on the idea that a lot of folks prepared food in their room and/or will go to Downtown Disney.

When I snuck in to look at the pool in March, I did think it smaller than I had imagined, but then the quiet pool is also larger than I imagined. Since I don't normally spend the day at the pool, only go for a quick dip, this wasn't a big deal to me.

I wonder if the food court will be busy for awhile as people come over to check out the new resort, golf or use the spa. Maybe it will be busier around lunch?

Don't be fooled by pictures. The pool is quite large. We took the tour last week and seeing it in person is very different than looking at photos. The quiet pool is huge and may become more popular due to it's location closer to the villas and it's view of DD.

Also the seating for the food 'court' is bigger than photos might indicate.

I will let you all know when we get back. I am sure that WDW puts a lot into the planning as they have done so many before SSR, they must have a good idea of capacity / volume / and need at the resorts.

Also - once the first 4 buildings are finished, dont they have plans for another quiet pool in the newer area? If there are 3 pools on site, I am sure it will work out well.

I cant wait to report back to everyone, but not too fast - I want this vacation to last!!!!

Somewhere (DVC newsletter?) I read that the capacity for the pool is 180 people. I'm almost positive they were talking about the main pool...but not 100% positive. :p That number seems low...but then again 180 in the pool all *at the same time* is a LOT of people.

As far as Artist's Palette goes...I think it will be just about the right size for the number of folks who will use it for a main meal location. Let's face it, most people will use one of three options for meals: 1) eat in their villa, 2) eat at a park or 3) eat at DTD. Looking ahead to our trip, the only time we might eat lunch at AP is if we're having a pool day. (But I'm willing to bet we just bring some sandwiches down from the room).

It is a home away from home resort, I am surprised it has a food court at all. I don't know about the pool, but it looked nice to me in the pictures I saw. Maybe they have a food court because they know a restaurant would die there right next to DD and all the area choices for eating. With the Earl of Sandwich close by I am really surprised they have food court, something like OKW has near the docks where you can get hot dogs, etc. would seem to me all they need.

or 4) catch the boat to OKW and eat at Olivia's
or 5) have a barbeque at the BBQ area there at SSR

I for one if they have a pretty good food court may not go to DTD for a lunch. I may get something there and more than likely eat in the room.

ITA. Depending on the distance to DTD - or if it's 11:10 and I just missed the ferry - if we are planning on picking up lunch, AP sounds like it would do us just fine. And we'll get to find out in a week!

They may be using Olivia's usage as a guide. I think a lot of people do breakfast in the room although they may want to bring some goodies back from the restaurant area (hence the emphasis on take-out as well). People are also not confined to just DD for eating choices but can eat in any of the fabulous restaurants all over the World. I know I usually end up eating in the MK area resorts (Contemporary/GF/Poly/WL) more than just about anywhere else. The Artist's Palette is a back-up for those times when folks do want to eat at the resort.

is very like an All star resort,as had been said good for a quick meal.
Guess we will just have to get our towels down early on the pool chairs.

Can't comment on the pool since I haven't seen it.

But, regarding the food court, I'm not worried about the size. In fact, I think the creation of a food court at a dedicated DVC facility is perhaps the biggest risk the designers took at SSR. Logistically, it makes some sense given the close proximity to the DD dining establishments. But, in the back of my mind, I keep wondering how many DVC members will really want to trek over to that area for a meal. For folks enjoying a day at the main pool, it will be a very convenient meal location. But it seems to be a few minutes away from any of the resort buildings on foot.

I will stop short of predicting that the food court will be a failure. In fact, given our family makeup, we're MORE likely to make use of a food court than a table service restaurant. But, at the same time, I wouldn't be shocked to see it "renovated" several years down the road if it doesn't prove to be as popular with members as DVC expects.

I actually think that it is a great idea to have a food court. I personally hate to cook while on vacation. I know that this vacation, I am going to have to because of the length of our stay, but I would be open to a quick lunch at the food court instead of putting together a meal in the middle of the day.

I'm not an SSR owner, but I sort of like the idea of a food court too. I know when we stayed at POR a couple times in the past, some of those buildings were quite a hike to the food court yet it always seemed to be bustling. I haven't yet seen SSR (plan to in the fall), but are the buildings any further from the food court than say the ones at POR are, for example ? Is there a map/layout of the resort available as of yet ?

Looking at the most recent pictures, I think the pool actually looks pretty big. At some point, I was concerned about the size but the posts in the last week have totally dispelled that. The food court also looks to be a decent size, with several different areas.
