i have to say that i loved this airport, it was the portland oregon airport, very nice and laid back, didnt seem to busy at all either t his night or the next morning.

The airport perfectly embodies Portland. Lots of boutique-y cool shops, VERY laid back, microbrews and coffee places every other kiosk, no ones ever really in a rush.

well you see shortly and i use that term loosely not wanting to say that she was short.

a mother, and 2 of the 5 children came along to greet us to the west coast.

I would have given a lot of money to have seen your face if all 7 of us had shown up. With only 2 pizzas and all.

she is fixing up tate for our visit, and candi has a look on her face of someone that caught a whife of someone else that broke wind....not blaming or pointing fingers, thats just what i see...

i will say that the gift she brought us was very nice, and i used it the whole trip, but wont give it away in case she ends up using it for her contest at some point.

I am almost done with those gifts!! Thanks for not spilling the beans on this one!

you can see the toy story jibbitz on the table that we gave her to use and there was enough for her whole family although not sure who has crocs that could use them, but hope that her younger kids enjoyed them if anything.

If I can't find my Crocs very soon, I'll be buying some new ones. Just so I can use my really cool new Jibbitz; I love them!! THANKS!

the conversation was good, and i think liesa could tell we were pretty beat from our travel day so far...but she and her kids were very nice and great to talk to.

I could; Candi was awfully quiet and looked like she was starting to get sleepy. Bless her heart!

A great update and some really fantastic pics! Parker is always so cute with that big, happy smile!!! And I'm glad you got that group shot at the airport to share with us. I knew Liesa was supposed to be short, but dang.....even Parker is taller!!!

I knew about the meet, but you never let on that Tate even made it. Too bad Liesa hasn't gotten him those cool glowing eyes yet.....

if you read carefully marv you would not have made the mistake of thinking it was at the airport but actually we met at our hotel.


it was surpise to me as well to see her pull him out of her bag, at what a great suprise and fun for parker to play with.

and yes she is a little vertically challenged, but still a very nice lady.

Yes, it was an interesting update with flying "plans" and pictures of "damns!" I thought that was what you said when you saw that one girl on the nudie beach you told me about...... (okay, now explain that one to Candi......)

Dan, I just was engulfed in the last 10 updates or so, and just amazed by how much Parker loves the characters. He seems so easy going. You guys really had a good balance of alone time, your parents alone time, and time with Parker. I mean, it all seemed to flow so smoothly. Your parents seem like such wonderful people!

I can't comment on everything I read individually because that would be a very long post!! I enjoyed reading. Your little bits of humor, as always, made me laugh.

we tried to split it up as best we could, so we didnt get sick of each other and i think for the most part it seemed to work out.

Those are great pictures of Parker with the characters, but I like the ones at the castle better. The second one where you can see his face, it looks like he knows the trip is almost over and has to soak up as much of the castle magic he can before it's time to leave. Or maybe I am projecting - becasue that's how I feel when it's time for us to leave!

Am enjoying your What If story too! Amazing that you were able to create pictures on a story that is "only" what if.....

it could be that, im not really sure, i tried to not interupt him as he was having a moment, but a moment that i knew i had to capture, and glad i did, he was in deep consintration.

Loved the update! We just ate at the CP in May. I had my picture taken with Pooh and all of his friends. From some of your pre-Hawaii photos I can tell that Parker has gotten taller!I can't wait to see what you choose for your TR.

i know i was noticing that as well when i posted them, he has gotten so much more of a big boy look to him from last year, i better not show candi the difference or i am sure she will cry.

im not sure i want to pick a title more of a leaving it out there and going with those are possible ones.

The pictures at the CP were really good -- I like the one where it looks like Pooh is trying to pinch Parker's cheeks. The things you have to do to get that kid to smile.

it was a fun meet and we are glad it worked out. i think that will be my farthest from disney dis meet i will ever partake in.

she was at about 26 weeks then...right now she is at 29 weeks

i have much better pictures of her coming up, where you can see more of the bump.

My word, Parker is beyond adorable! His little smile is seriously contagious, what a cutie he is! I love all of the CP pics, so sweet. I love your Dumbo strategy too...use your dad! I might employ this idea next trip.

Chapter 42. Dumbo Dash and (What If)

to clear up something, we didnt really leave my dad to pay the bill when we left CP as we were on the dinning plan, so we just left him to sign his name to take off the credits on all of meals and then he caught up to us.



the gates had just opened as we saw a few people going past the restraunt, so we joined in and went with the masses through the castle, not that crowded yet that morning.

throught the castle we see some empty horses...this is not our desitnation.

we continue on, and see some flying elephants, after all we were in the dumbo dash, not as exciting and crowded as the toy story mania trample, but still effective and a must do in order to not wait for an hour later in the day to spin around in dumbo.

they were still testing the elephants in the morning one more time.

even though it looks like no one is there, we just missed the first ride and were very close to the front for the second ride of the day.

this is what the construction looked like in june

june of 2010...im sure it is very very different now.

now this next picture even though it may excite a certain marv and glenn, is not of candis rear, but that of the tail on a certain horse who is cinderella...she found him quickly while parker said he wanted to ride the one next to her, she opted to not let this opportunity go to waste and hopped on the princess horse.

this brings us to the next addition of WHAT IF our vacation was to a place called disney and that place was on an island in the ocean, and I were to do a TR on it...it might sound something like this.

lets continue.

so if this disney location existed in the ocean, then we would have to take a break on getting there, which we did and had a dis meet, well we would have to leave the next day to continue on our journey.

i have to say again that i really liked this airport nicely designed and very laid back...here is the drop off area.

once inside with luggage dropped off we made our way to the gate...to sit and relax. parker got out his camera and stepped right into his dads footsteps to take some pictures of the planes.

before boarding we opted to get some food instead of buying it on the plane...well candi had made a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich at the hotel for her and parker at the breakfast bar. to take with, but i saw something the day before that i had to try when we landed.

it was a smokey mountain brat.

i forget the name of the store but it was awesome they had many different flavors of brats...mine was perfect right amount of seasoning and heat...and went great with the saure kraut.

Which i enjoyed crusing a few miles up...thats right i opened it on the plan and enjoyed it for my lunch...it actually did not smell that much, the people a few seats away could not smell it....so we were all good.

last shot of the west coast before we departed to a sea of blue out the window.

on the flight hte day before we found out that they have these things called digeplayers on our airline, which come loaded with 15-20 movies, a bunch of tv shows, cartoons, games, sports shows and so forth...well if you reserve them before the flight you get $2 off...the flight attendant on our flight told me to do it at the hotel and if it doesnt go through to let them know on our next flight that he said to knock off the discount for me...okay sounds good.

well it didnt work it said it was to close to our flight. so i told the flight attendant what the one the day before said and she said sounds good well take care of you.

well when i bought it on board they charged full price...no biggie just 2 bucks so i didnt say anything.

well 3 hours into the flight, the flight attendant asked me if they gave me the discount and i said no but dont worry about it, she said well ill have to do something about that....and she ended up getting me this.

free of charge, normal cost on the plan $6 me free, so i see that as a 4 dollar swing in my direction.

it was very good but i had to down it quick as on there flights going into maui, the airline has complimentary mai tais



soon we were seeing the sights of land

off in the distance on the coast is where my Sister in law lives...and our location for the second part of the trip.

but for now we were going to the other side of the island for the first week.

looks like some nice mountain valley.

the "big city" by the airport where the cross ships also dock.

when we landed and were taxing to the runway, i got a text from marv asking if we arrived, and some back and forth banter about getting lied when got off the plan occured, im sure you can figure out who started that one.


we got our luggage almost as soon as we arrived at the bag check and headed to our car rental which went smoothly and about 30 minutes after landing we were loaded up and headed to the hotel...

What if this were a disney resort, how soon would we have gotten on the ME.

in our rental, someone zonked out, which was fine we took our time it was about a 30 minute drive to the resort so we were glad he was getting some rest.

the tunnel turned out to be parkers favorite part of the trip around that side of the island.

we stopped for some grocerys for our room and soon we check in...up next on the disney side, we head to more fantasy land, and (what if) this was a disney trip, how would there rooms stack up to the disney life style.

Chapter 43. Whats in a room (What If)

When thinking of hotel rooms many things come to mind, you might jump to the image of your favorite vacation spot, which for most here would be a resort room in disney.

If you are lucky enough to have a DVC you think of your 1 or 2 bedroom with your kitchen and how you long to be there resting and relaxing with the mouse.

So we had no idea what to expect when thinking of our room, or location, we were told we would have a garden view...which to me can mean i will see green at least, but not sure what else will my eyes behold.

So lets get to What If this were a disney resort what would the rooms look like for this vacation destination.


We pulled into the concierge parking area, and were helped with our luggage with i gladly accepted the offer of a bell man to take the bags up...afterall this is our luggage we brought with us.

2 big bags that we checked, we each got the smaller carry on to take on the plane...plus our personal bag, which for me was a laptop size bag with all of my electronics, parkers book bag, and candis large disney bag.

now do the math...thats 8 pieces of luggage for 3 people, one of whom might or might not feel like pulling his 1 carry on bag...to bad i always had the cameras and candi never got a picture of me dragging what i drug,

picture this if you will, me with parkers CARS book bag on my bag, with straps extented fully so it would fit me, but still stylin, with laptop bag over head on my side, pulling each large suitcase on wheels but with each having there own tag along on top of them of a carry on suitcase. and you have me with 5 or 6 pieces of equipment depending on the day...behind me...it was a sight i am sure.

now bless candi as she kept trying to take different things, but i wanted her to keep parker safe while walking places in the airport and didnt want her getting anything to heavy...so when mister bell man offered to take our stuff i almost hugged him and gave him a kiss.

because besides our stuff we also had about 6 paper bags from the grocery store not to mention some adult beverages that since candi could not drink i felt the need to drink her half as well.



cool thing about our bell man, they had large storage tubs that he put all of our grocerys in so they would not spill out of the bag and so they would stack nicely without damaging anything on the cart.

so i sent the bell man candi and parker to the room while i parked the car.

i caught up with them as they were unloading the last of the packages from the cart.

now if this were a disney resort, this is the sight you might see from the doorway.

this is what your view back at the door and of the kitchen would look like. and in case you are wondering, the bottom drawer in the fridge, not only holds veggies and the like, it also will fit a 30 pack of your favorite beverage.

your bathroom with a door from the main living area as well as from the bedroom.

with not one but 2 sinks to get ready at.

if you had a regular facing room, you would have one of these balcony doors and your balcony would be about 4 feet wide to relax and sit, and about 30 feet long or so, so a good size.

now if you have a corner room, you get 3 doors, one from the living room, one from the side of the bed, and one from the foot of the bed like this.

looking back into the room.

now a normal corner balcony is a good 7 feet wide or so which is very nice and wide. to lay down on a loung chair...or room was on one of the every 3rd floors that had a extra large wide balcony to make up for the hotel getting smaller as it went up so to make up for rooms on other levels, they had to make the balconys on some floors much larger...

in this picture you can see at the top the normal width of a balcony.

now you may be thinking, "Dan" yes go ahead, that balcony looks to be shielded by the one above you as well as that half way in front of you.

why yes yes it is.

so does that mean what i think it means.

yep sure does,

"WHAT IF" i were to get home late one night and the sun had set, i bet i could sit out there rump roast necked and no one would see me...why yes yes that could be possible. as long as your chair was pulled back under the over hang.


not that i tried it or anything.



so what is our view on this garden view...well out the one side and looking toward the mountain area, i see gardens.

looking toward the other way, i see ocean...granted it is not ocean front but it is still ocean view...this was the other direction.
nice view of the pool and hte water.

this turned out great as we were able to see in the morning if our favorite pool seats were open and when to head down to stack out our spots.

here is the first panoramic shot that i took...i was still learning so i didnt get the lighting right all the way through it, but it turned out pretty good.

all you do is hit the button and move the camera and it stitches them together for you automatically.

now that you have seen a WHAT IF this were a disney vacation room.

next time we explore the sands.
