Sports: Deflate-Gate

My problem with this whole thing is there is no way the Patriots are the only team that do this to the game balls. The bigger question is why is the league's procedures so terrible that the teams would be able to get this kind of access to the game balls after they've been inspected by the officials. Should they not be put into a locked box of some kind, that only the officials have a key for, that is unlocked only as we're retrieving balls for play?

How is it tainted because of Belicheck when the Wells Report said he knew nothing about the deflated balls?
Plain and simple: he's the head coach. He's in-charge. He's been caught before. He may not have been the perp this time, but he might be the grandfather of the idea. Perception. Reputation. Intangibles. Guilt by association.

Nothing prosecutable, but another piece of the puzzle. Possibly unfairly, but when you get busted once, your suspected in the future.

Fair point, but we're supposed to have this thing called good sportsmanship. You're not supposed to act in bad-faith in a sporting event. Both teams know the rules and are expected to follow them. One team taking advantage of something that is supposed to be 'on-their-honor' is pretty dishonorable. Sports have no true purpose other than being a place to show character and strength. I guess Tom showed his character in this situation.

Well it's been proven Spygate had nothing to do with the first 3 championships, and he was cleared by the Wells Report on Deflategate so all he did was break a rule. Cheating means one has an advantage, what advantage did filming from the sidelines give the Pats that day when the Pats were being filmed by the Jets from the booth? Please tell us all what advantage the Pats had?

It's gonna be a long week. ::yes:: Any guesses when the consequences will be handed out? I thought last week...I'm now going with Thursday after 3pm.

They say it could happen today. Rumor is 4-6 game suspension then negotiated down to 2 or 3 games.

They aren't the only team (there are plenty of current and former QB's that have/are admitting to altering the balls to their liking.

Aren't the kicking game balls under lock and key?

Haven't you ever heard "if you aren't cheating, you aren't trying"?

Every team cheats, in every sport.

All baseball teams steal signs, many pitchers use pinetar on balls, in hockey, many players use illegal curves on their sticks, and have "3rd period sticks" that have legal curves in-case the other team asks for them to be checked.

I was thinking several games. Your post makes a lot of sense. The NFL gets the get tough headlines, and then negotiates down. By then everyone will have moved onto something else. Isn't the Preakness Sat??? :)

Well, the Red Sox and Bruins need to pick up the pace then! :rotfl2:

Buchholz is a big cheater, uses sunscreen to get better grip on the ball. Caught him on camera doing a few years back in Toronto.

Are you calling them underachievers???
We've been spoiled in NE for the last 15 years, anything short of a second round playoff appearance is a bad season.

Something about him I do NOT like. Can't figure out what, but its something. Curious, how could sunscreen provide a BETTER grip? To me it would be like trying to hold a greased watermelon.

And big cheater would be what's his face from the Yankees that had pine tar on his neck (after having it on his wrist the start before)!

It's a spray on sunscreen called BullFrog, and it's very sticky, it can also be combined with the rosin, in the rosin bag and it apparently makes a very good glue. Very tacky.

I see now.....maybe he was concerned with too much sun exposure..... in a dome :joker:

that was it, Toronto has a retractable dome, but this game was played with the dome being closed, and he was very obviously rubbing his forearm, prior to grippinf the ball
