We are staying at All-star Sports Sept 21-26 in a preferred room. This will be our first time staying in a value resort. I was wondering if anyone has any tips for this hotel. How is the buss transportation? Any info would be appreciated!

First the negative:

I have not enjoyed the bus transportation from All Star Sports.
BUT - we have always been there during very busy times (Early June, and free dining last year.) One of the reasons we are not doing All Stars again is because of the bus transporation.

Now the positive:

I did notice last summer that instead of all the All Stars sharing busses all the time, we had our own dedicated bus during busy morning pick-ups. All Star Sports is the first pick-up and first drop-off, so that is a plus.

Finally:
The buses in no way affected the WONDERFUL time spent in Walt Disney World. We have always had a blast regardless of crowded busses. And you will too!

we will be there the same time as you this yr and were there the same time last yr. We also booked a preferred room.. that I was told will be in the surfs up section. Stayed there last yr and loved the location and theme... I'll try to post some pix's. didn't use the trasp. we get a car.. but if you have any questions ask and I'll try to answer. I LOVE ASSp... the layout is great no matter what bldg really, have stayed in the football area too.
a freind just cam back from staying in sports and used the trans. for a bit with no complaints... I think you'll be fine.
enjoy your trip

We were at Sports a few weeks ago and had a great stay. The busses were great! Sports is the first pick up and drop off for the All Star resorts. We only went to Movies and Music twice during our whole stay. Most of the time each resort had their own busses and didn't have to share. The food court was good and mousekeeping was great, even left us some towel animals. My DH and DS are huge sports fans so we love the Sports resort. Last year we stayed in Surfs Up and really enjoyed it. There really isn't a bad location at this resort so this year we requested the Touchdown section and was able to get it. My DS and DH loved going down and throwing the football on the football field. The pools are great too. We did most of our swimming at night after visiting the parks. We like the Grand Slam pool because there wasn't as many people there plus, again, my DS's favorite sport is baseball. I'm sure you'll have a magical time!!

We just came home today from All Star Music for a week and only had to share the bus twice with the other all star resorts. The most we had to wait for a bus was 10 minutes at Epcot. We only had to stand up 2 times-buses were only about 3/4 full the most.

My wife and I have been to the Disney World many times and have stayed at numerous resorts - moderate, deluxe and the all stars. My mother used to reside in Florida so we would go twice a year to wdw and stay on site. The last deluxe we were at was the animal kingdom lodge which was truly a theme park of it's own. our room overlooked the savanah (sorry about spelling) which would have feeding times where all the animals would come clearly into view for my camera and camcorder. the transportation to the parks was subpar compared to the all star resorts, taking as much as 45 minutes to get a bus only to find it was not going to the theme park we were seeking (although they were always empty but us, made for great video).

My wife and I are going to stay in sports next month to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have stayed at all 3 all stars and find this one the quickest to get on and off. The time to get in line and on the bus is very short - 15 minutes would be long to get on the bus to the park of your choice. The rooms are clean and the "no frills" is not a problem if you are down to earth people. If transportation to the park is your priority, this is the place. You are the first to be picked up and the first off the bus if the bus has to go to all 3 all star resorts. The food is reasonable in the food court and the gift shops have an ample supply of needed items and souveniers.

My goal in picking an on site resort is the quick transportation, not the ambience. How much time are you going to spend in your room? I am a big all star fan in case you didn't figure that out. Though I live in northern NY, I have been to Disney world no fewer than 20 times and love the price, look and transportation at the all stars. I have been a Florida resident in the past and have not found a better way to enjoy the resort then the all star.

If you are at a leisurely pace, I reccommend the animal kingdom lodge for non-stop entertainment. The animals are real and fun to watch from your room if you have one overlooking the savannah. We had a balcony suite and did lots of video and photos. My children were wowed by the closeness of the animals during the morning and evening feedings.

Sorry for the long post, just a passionate newcomer to this board!

Okay, one more post from my previous long note. The preferred rooms are a double edged sword. You are close to the transportation, close to the food court and close to the pools. Conversely, you are close to the "bar", close to the pools and close to the noise! I have had preferred rooms on the backside, that is, not facing the pool but close to the food court and transportation. You can request the backside rooms and Disney is pretty good about accomadating you. I did this with my senior citizen mother and we were in a great room. My past experiences were as an annual passholder and they took pretty good care of me. You can always request a room change when you arrive (as they don't put you in a specific room until after you arrive) and they do very well with accommodating you.

To answer your question, our trip is going to be centered around the parks. It will be me, my DH 25 and my sister 20 so we will probley only use the room for sleeping! We usually like to get to the parks at rope drop. Can you recall the time of the first bus? We stayed at CBR last year and used the busses the whole trip with no trouble. I am hoping for the same luck this trip!
By the way thanks for the tip on the perrfered room side. When we made our ressies it was the only thing left. I have tried to change to a regular room, but the whole hotel is booked! Hopefully all of thoses people will sleep in! :yay:

I'm thinking of taking my sister. We have an offer of $670 for the 2 of us with dining and 1 day ticket each. Is this good? I ususally stay offsite or at Shades of Green and have never done dining plan.
