Splitting with the dining plan

Hypothetically, if one person is on the dining plan and the other was not, is it possible to split an entree with the person on the plan in a TS? From some boards, I read that there might be too much food on the dining plan and I want to maximize TS credits as much as possible...

Thanks for anyone who can advise!

I would not advertise that one of you is not on the plan but if you are ordering an entree for yourself who is on the plan then there is no reason you cannot have an extra plate and share your meal if you choose to. You can't use your plan to purchase someone else not on the plan food according to Disney, but they don't say you can't share your plate. However, you cannot do this at a buffet or per person, unless you just swipe your card and use the don't ask don't tell policy and let them charge you 2 credits. :rolleyes1

They will know you're on the plan. Your KTTW will have the number of people on the plan.

According to reports, the only a la carte restaurants that may not allow guests on the DDP to split entrees are Beaches & Cream and Via Napoli. They will apparently not allow any sharing of meals purchased with DDP credits.

There's no don't ask don't tell policy at buffets or all you can eats. Everyone sitting at the table is charged.

And Disney's published rule is that you cannot use your dining plan to provide meals for persons who are not on your dining plan. Here on the restaurant board, we interpret that to mean sharing a meal with your guest, when they don't order anything themselves.

I still plan to order something (but more like an appetizer instead of an entree)... We'll see. :)

Thanks for the info! This helps.

FWIW ~ they check your KTTW card BEFORE you order. So they will know.

Also FWIW ~ we've also been charges "meals" for meals we intended to pay cash for and had a heck of a time getting it fixed.

My mom usually travels with us but she doesn't get the dining plan and pays cash for her meals. I can't tell you the number of times they have run all our meals off the dining plan and didn't do the split correct.

Good luck!

So, just to jump on this thread... are you all saying that two people ON the dp could (with the exception of Via Napoli and B&C) order one meal to split and only be charged 1 credit?

How about this case my sister an I eat at the Sci-Fi café I am on the deluxe dining plan my sister is on the basic dining plan. I order the onion rings and we share them is this ok?

Yes, people on the DDP can split plates in many cases.

Sharing a few bites of an appetizer is likely not what is meant when Disney asks that guests not redeem their dining credits to provide meals for someone who is not on the same dining plan.
