Split dining plan question with Deluxe DDP

I've read a lot of threads on the ability to get the DDP for part of your stay but am still not competely clear on how it works.

Say I am staying for 1 wk Saturday to Saturday. I want the DxDDP for Tuesday (one day only). The DxDDP includes 3 meals which can be either TS or CS and credits don't expire until midnight on the day you check out.

So on Tuesday morning, I go down to the desk and get new keys. These keys now entitle me to three meals of my choice. I can go to a character breakfast and TS dinner on Tuesday, then on Wednesday morning go get new keys that don't have the dining plan, but since the credits don't expire until midnight, I can do another TS dinner that night. Is this right? I can get three TS dinners over two days for the price of one day DxDDP? Or does the midnight thing not work for this DVC deal? Or am I understanding this wrong? This is an amazing deal if it is true.

Nope - that's how it works. Your DDP credits are good from when you check in to that segment of the reservation and the next day (check-out day) until midnight.

Hmm...maybe this is something I should look into next time...

Am I to take it I can book a multi-segment reservation (essentially two or more linked reservations), get DDP on just one of the segments, and not have to change rooms? I've never thought about that before...

So they say! :goodvibes

We did it last week. We had dinner the first night at Sanaa and at Narcoosee's the next. It was a little bit challenging because we didn't decide to do it until the very last moment. Our next trip is segment each day so that we can get REALLY creative!!:scared1:

Do you have to segment your trip from the start or have any of you made an initial reservation , then amended it to segment it? Seems like DVC is making a lot of extra work for themselves, but nice for us!

Did you have to check in and out with the dining plan segemented this way? I'm going in a few weeks and I will have deluxe for a few days and then 1 day with no dining plan. I'm wondering how that will work.

MS tells me that you get one card when you check in and that KTTW card is good for the length of stay regardless of how you have the dining plan segmented.

You are supposed to get one card but many of the resorts have not figured it out

Wow, something I knew about that doconeil didn't... that's a first (and probably last) :)

The way we always do it is we split our 7 day stay into 2 ressies(a 3 and a 4 day), link them together or do a split stay with 2 resorts. then get DDP on front ressie and stretch it over the 4th day. Really makes the DDP less strenuous and valuable (to us)

Wow!! Every night separate? That would make things creative wouldn't it? I may have to try that on my Dec stay after our cruise. :thumbsup2

This is the first I'm hearing of splitting the DDP. Is there someplace on here that I can read more about it? I tried looking but didn't see anything. Thanks!!

me too I would like more info...the last time we went in Sept we had to do a split stay to do this has something changed?

I set up our 7 night July vacation with segments so that I could use the dining plan for part of our stay. Specifically I had three segments. When I attempted to book my dining reservations for days after the first segment, I could select a time, but when I attempted to confirm I got an error message.

I called the WDW Dine number (MS wasn't open yet) and they could not help me. I asked if it could be because of the segmented reservation and the CM said there was a system wide problem and no one was booking for that week in July.

That seemed odd so I called MS when it opened. She put me on hold for a while and came back with confirmation numbers. She added, "I re-booked your reservation so it is all one reservation now." I guess I can call back and ask MS to "re-segment" my reservation LOL.

I'm guessing this is a problem in general for segmented/linked reservations.

There was a DVC reservation system upgrade last fall that enabled this option, but there are still glitches in the system.

ok thanks I checked member website but I didn't see anything

It is one of those "dis" secrets (they actually anounced that it could be done, but never informed the members about the mechanics). It should be done as all one reservaition with "segments" as needed, even different resorts are done under the same reservaion number.

There are still quite a few glitches, but MS has figured work arounds so it is best to do all DDP work with them on the phone. Resorts still for the most part do not have a clue.

Sorry, I'm confused... how does your dining res. interact with your resort res?
I have Dining reservations but not linked to my resort reservations ( I don't have Dining Plan yet) and I don't remember anywhere when making my reservations that I was asked if this was a DP res. So how would the system know that your reservation was segmented.... or am I being dense?

Your actual ressies are not linked to your KTTW card, they are a separate transaction. As far as the ressie being a DP ressie, it is no different to them than a cash ressie until the day you show up. Then you tell them you are on the DDP.

DDP IS linked to your ressie, so when you do call to get it, they will ask for your ressie info then

I think the easiest way to do it is by e-mail.
Several have reported having issues when calling MS.
Others have had success e-mailing.

I sent an e-mail last week requesting my July reservation be split onto two 3-day segments.
I had a reply in less than 24 hours that it was successfully done.
I just need to call MS to add the DP I want.
I now have two reservations with the same number each for three days listed.
We are doing the DxDp for three days... eating at the Castle and Jiko.
And we have the Regular DP for the other three days.

Also, to make reservations in the +10 window, you need to provide a resort reservation number of the agent doesn't already have it. I don't know how tightly connected they are now though.
