splash mountain: lap bars now installed

I am ok with the lap bar, I just hope that the ride might open a day earlier than listed. We will be in MK 1/31 and are leaving for home 2/1.

I am [plus-sized/guest of exceptional size/fat/big dude] so the installation of the lap bars is a bummer and possible cause of discomfort for me the next time I ride.

I note from the SM attraction page on the Disney website that it says "Due to the nature of the experience, service animals are not permitted on this attraction." Perhaps with the new lap bars service animals can now ride. :)

No offense, but maybe you could use it as motivation to slim down. You never know what could give you a spark to get into shape.

I'm surprised it took them this long to get an idiot on the ride and ruin it for the rest of us.

But, it didn't.

The man who exited the attraction and fell to his death was about 10 years ago.

Millions of guests have ridden since that happened.

I feel much more secure now, this is my favorite ride at WDW but I always feel like I'm going to fall out in the drop! :rotfl:

It's the Brazilian tour groups that always stand up. And sing.

Rest assured that the new "refurbishment" would keep them in line. I respect and appreciate them going on a trip to bring the much needed tourist revenue in my state (same as WDW), but I feel for those who hate them and the measure would give them a bit of relief.

Having a lapbar isn't always "the solution" though. Another ride with a lapbar that scares me safety-wise is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. When I ride with DD8, she is so much small than me. So, when the safety bar is lowered it only goes back as far as my belly and she is not tightly secured. So, I am always putting my arm around her making sure she doesn't go whipping out the open side of the train car. Does this freak anyone else out too?

I always think the same thing!

:confused3 We have become a sue 'em society. It's pretty sad. There are way too many lawyers out there today. (This is coming from someone with three lawyers in her family! :rotfl: )

would you prefer duels in the streets at high noon? while i do agree too many lawsuits and lawyers, at least it's not vigilante justice and flying lead.

No in-log restraints (other than that old-reliable "gravity," which worked well for the previous 20+ years.)

you are aware of 'global warming' and the fact that the north pole is shifting. kudos to Disney for being proactive. That gravity thing is bound to fail sooner or later, it's only a matter of time.
