splash mountain: lap bars now installed

We have become a sue 'em society. It's pretty sad. There are way too many lawyers out there today. (This is coming from someone with three lawyers in her family! )

It's easy to blame lawyers, but as I'm sure you know, it's the lawyers' clients that drive the lawsuits! It's just more fun to blame a lawyer than Joe Shmoe!

Really unhappy about this - this is another ride where I will be uncomfortable and "squeezed". I don't like to feel locked in at any time, I'm not claustrophobic at all, I just don't like the tightness. Yes, I am a pooh sized person and no, this isn't motivation to"get in shape" I'm happy with who I am. But, realistically, this ride (in WDW and DLR) has been fine without lapbars - gravity and centrifugal force won't allow a person to fall out. There are rides with steeper drops in other amusement parks with only waist seat belts holding them in place. It's really unfortunate that this had to happen...it's also unfair that these idiots who can't follow simple rules for safety have to ruin it for the rest of us. What's next, over the head restraints on ToT???

Ok, rant over - next time I'm at WDW I'll ride SM just like I always do, but some of the thrill from the ride will le lost for me

I don't see that happening however I don't like that they took the lap bar out of TOT I liked the idea of being able to hold on for life

Especially since many folks will actually agree with/sympathize the lawyers' clients individually if they actually knew more details of the cases rather than just the headline blurbs. It's easier to blame the group as a whole than necessarily the individuals individually .

I am glad they put the lap bars in. I know I won't fall out of the log on the drop but I still hold on for dear life. I plant my feet on the seat in front of me and lock my legs then hold onto that tiny little bar in front of me lol

If this lap bar keeps other people from standing up and messing things up for everyone else on the ride and in line then good for Disney!

Rest assured that the new "refurbishment" would keep them in line. I respect and appreciate them going on a trip to bring the much needed tourist revenue in my state (same as WDW), but I feel for those who hate them and the measure would give them a bit of relief.

And I agree with to many lawyers and too many Lawyers taking ridiculous cases. If they had some ethics and didn't take the crazy ones they would stop being filed, so you can blame the lawyers. They are the professionals and are supposed to have some standards not the general public.

Exactly like the threads surrounding the boy killed by a Disney bus, which basically concluded (by the majority) that he was stupid and had it coming.

I just hope this doesn't turn out like the lap bars on Dudley Do Right over at IOA. I'm only 6', but I thought they were going to have to use the jaws of life to cut me out of the log! Seriously, SO TIGHT!! Lets just hope Splash isn't the same way.

Yep, I had the same experience at DDR at IOA. What added to it is the fact that I'm pretty big around the belly, and could barely breath.
