OK. DD LOVES SM. Going 12/6 - 12/9. She'll want to ride it every day, at least once a day.

Has anybody ridden it during the colder months? Do you see alot of folks wearing rain ponchos or something to keep dry, or do they just walk around wet and cold? :confused3

I only rode it once during a cold month and we had the back seat so we didnt get that wet. You do see a lot of people wearing ponchos. I've never wore them, but I guess it wouldn't hurt.
In the colder months thought IMO the water pressure isnt very strong so your chances of getting wet are less than in the summer. We went last weekend when the high was in the 50s and there was a wait for SM, usually you see people walking around wet and this time you didnt see that many.

We rode it multiple times this past Thursday 1/12 and Saturday 1/14. Thursday we were in shorts and t-shirts and the weather was beautiful. Saturday it barely got to 60 degrees, was rather windy and we had on long pants, long sleeves, sweatshirts and windbreakers. Some people on both days had dollar store ponchos on, but not many. We noticed that the water splashing/spraying at the end of the large drop did not seem as big on Saturday. We did get splashed both days on each ride, but it wasn't a major soaking. We rode in the middle, the front and the back of the log on different trips. The wettest we got was in the front, and that was our hair getting wet and a few drops on our shirts and back of our pants from the seat. If you don't want to worry about getting wet at all, bring along some of the dollar store ponchos (we've bought them for 2 for a dollar before) and throw them away when you are done.

I even see people wear ponchos in the summer time. If you get a cold day in the winter i would not advise riding it. But if you get a relatively warm day then you will want to ride it. It's not a ride where you will get terribly soaked but you can still get a little wet. I would also advise riding this ride in the early afternoon when it is still warmer compared to the rest of the day and the sun is still out.

I once rode it in January because we had a warm afternoon. I was so hot and just wanted to cool off. I didn't get wet at all, but my boyfriend did. He felt great and he dried pretty quickly.

We rode it several times the first week in January. As far as a water ride goes, to me you really don't get that soaked. Yes, you do get a little wet. It certainly does not compare to Kali River Rapids and the water ride at Sea World. Do not even think about riding those two without a poncho. We road all three and unfortunately for us we did not have a ponch for Seawold and we were SOAKED. I love SM and would not miss it for the world. We wore a ponch once on it because we had them in our bag from the KRR at Ak.

I've also noticed in the colder months those water sprays that get you wet as you stand on the bridge watching the logs come down (a popular place to stand and get wet in the summer) are off and not shooting water at all.

yeah I realized that also, at first I thought it was becasue they were having some problems with it. But then I came to realize that they shut it off. Strange thing is that last December(December of 04) if I recall correctly, they were on. While this past December(December of 05) they were off. Weird huh?

We rode it repeated from 12/3 to 12/10/2005 -- at night, on sunny days, on chilly/drizzling days. If you sit in the back you do not get more than a few drops of water on you -- at least, that was always our experience!

One fun thing about riding it when it is colder, you have less people in line and a better chance of having a log to yourselves. We rode on a cold night during MVMCP and got a log to ourselves. It is weird to have a picture of us in winter coats on that ride!

We were just there on Saturday, the 14th(the COLD day) and my group actually took a lightweight pair of shorts in our backpacks. There is a restroom near by so we just changed into shorts before the ride and then back into our jeans afterwards. It worked great and our clothes stayed dry. It's true, I think about the water pressure being lower, but the real wetness for us came from the seats when we sat down - so the shorts were nice to have.

Its not so much the PRESSURE.

On Splash (as was mentioned about Kali) there are actual water JETS that can be turned on or off depending on the temperatures.

These jets (more than anything else in SplMtn) determine the "wetness factor".

Stalling before the big "outside front" lift at the beginning of the ride, and getting hit by those large jets of water timed with the other rider's logs going down the main drop can soak you.

And stalling under the water-fall just before the "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" scene can make you water-logged.

But both of these (and the jets that spray you at the end of the main drop) can be turned down or off, if the weather is chilly (if they DO turn them off is another story.)

We went on the same day as you...actually towards evening, before Spectro Magic. The ride got stuck 4 or 5 times and we got SOAKED!! We had dinner ressies and ended up buying new sweatshirts for all of us.

I rode it in January when the temperature was about in the lower 40s. It was a walk-on while the other rides had long lines. ;) We sat in the front row. My arm on the outside of the boat got soaking wet. Luckily, I had on a waterproof jacket, so I didn't care. Nothing else got wet on me though except that one arm.

I would definetely recommend a poncho in cooler weather, be sure it is covering your rear end before you sit down in the seat because the seats tend to get wet if someone wasn't sitting there before you.

I also heard the water doesn't spray and have seen it (in Dec of 04)...Though I didn't go in Dec of 05 so I can't help you there.

I do know though...That when I was younger I went on and it was FREEZING, so I sat in the back once and got down near the floor as close as I could (it looked like there was no one in the car because my friend did it too!) and we didn't get wet. :rotfl2:

Though we rode it again and you barely get wet in the back as long as the jets are on, just a mist in the face. Beware of those water jets, they'll get ya when you least expect it.
