SM has always been closed in January when we travel....How wet do you get? Considering it could get chilly, I don't want to walk around totally soaked. Do poncho help. Is there a better place to sit...I will miss BTMR but I am SO EXCITED ABOUT SPLASH MOUNTAIN!

It depends what car you're on. I've gone from barely mist-ed, to completely soaked. You really get soaked not from the drop, but if your car is going on the track to the side of the mountain when another one comes down. I've heard that they turn the water levels lower when it's cold so you don't get as wet, but I don't know that for sure.

I was in the front seat of my ride. Most of the ride, you're just floating along slowly. When it was time for the big drop, I got sprayed in the face long enough that I wondered when it was going to stop.

Even then, it wasn't so bad. My shirt dried off as I was walking away from the ride. Your mileage may vary, but I wouldn't worry about it. It's just water.

The canons (just before a ramp up) can soak a single rider (most often left front if I recall correctly). They don't have them turned on in colder weather.

The PP is correct. It totally varies from car to car and front seat to back. They can and do turn off the water cannons during cold periods, as well. And yes, ponchos will definitely help a lot. Keep the hood up, too, if you don't want to risk getting your hair soaked. I use a poncho no matter what time of year I ride, because I hate going around with wet clothes.

We went 3 times in Sept 2011 and 3 times in Dec 2011. Sept was late at night but very warm temps. December was evening and cooler temps (but not cold). Sept. didn't get wet at all. Dec. wet enough we changed our shorts and shirts. On the same night, we got wet in the front 2 rows.

For rides like this, we always come to the park in bathing suit (underneath clothes) or a light change of clothes just in case.

LOVE Splash Mtn.

Tip --If you want a good ride picture, if you sit in the front row, sit in the middle of the seat or you might not be visible if you put the picture in a frame (like the very nice Splash Mtn one sold in the gift shop at the end of the ride.
Tip -- we went when it was not crowded (like late at night or during parade or fireworks) and got to stay on the ride for repeat rides without getting off. I like how at one point you can see the castle from up high.

It entirely depends.

1.) If the water cannon shoots right before you hit the first lift, you'll probably get pretty wet.

2.) If your log is heavy in the front and light in the back, you'll get more wet on the final drop. If you've got the most weight in the back and the lightest in the front, it shouldn't be bad at all.

3.) I've had trips where I barely get hit and I've had some where I got pretty soaked, but it's never made the day miserable for me. I always dry off fairly easily, even when riding after dark. As wet as I've gotten, it's never gotten in my shoes.

We were in the last row and didn't get wet almost at all. Just a few drops. I ducked down on the drop in hopes of not getting too wet, but my BF did not and we were equally dry. I had a wet spot on my pants from the seat being wet when I sat down, but that was basically it.

when we rode it in Dec. 2010, during record cold, we didn't even get a drop of water on us. It seems that when it is very cold, besides turning the water cannons off, there is less water in the final "splash". When we were waiting for our meet & greet with Woody & Jessie, I noticed they had the ride running with almost no water.

From my experience I would say who the heck knows!!!! If you are my children or my dh you will not get more than a few sprinkles. If you are me you will likely get soaked!!! It seems to always be me that gets it the worst, esp. if it's not super hot and sunny. :)

That said, how wet you get does not come close to what happens on kali. Last Jan I was a bit cold after I got soaked but I was ok and dried off fairly quickly.

A poncho will keep you from getting wet.

That explains why DS and I got quite a bit soaked when we were the only ones in the boat and sat in the front row for 2 rides in a row without getting out!

wet, dry I dont care... My DS is tall enough to ride SM so Im pumped either way. As my Dad used to say "its only water champ"

the first time DS rode it we were lined up to be on the second row - but the lady in front of use wanted to change with us because she didn't want to get wet so she sat behind him (second row - left side) when we got off - I don't know how, but we (ds and I) were just a little bit wet, very little, but she was soaked - like water running down her legs, shoes squishing as she walked....:lmao:

I rode it Dec. 10th around midnight. One person in row 1, me in row 2, and 1 in row 4. Cannon gave me a direct hit, drop soaked everything. That was the worst soaking I ever had. Got a photo of me afterwards, top half drenched, bottom half not so bad. Hair completely wet. I heard that every third boat gets a direct hit by the cannon, my luck.

I thought people want to get wet on rides like this....... I refuse to wear a poncho on Splash Mtn or Kali River Rapids. DS6 and I got really wet on Splash Mtn... it made it more fun. Since we are wet anyway... we keep riding it again....

NO PONCHOS:woohoo:

in a word VERY :)

of course it depends. I have ridden and only gotten dripped on. I have also ridden and been totally drenched. We are going to try ponchos this time since we will be ridding it in a little over a WEEK! :)

Thanks for the thread! We go next week and my youngest will be able to ride so we want to try it out ... but don't want to walk around wet in January.

So pumps at Splash can be turned off. Good.

Does anyone know about Kali River Rapids? Are there any adjustments to make you 'less wet'?

I assume they have to have so much water in order to get the boats moving so not sure if they can modify for colder weather?

Thanks!

Don't trust this. Wear a poncho if it is a cold day and you don't want to risk getting soaked. We rode in December 2010 on a very cold night. We wore ponchos. We were put in the front row, and our boat was definitely front heavy. We had 2 adults and a kid. The only other people in the boat were a skinny dad and his little boy who was smaller than DD. They weren't all the way in the back row either. The water cannons my have been off, but had we not had our ponchos on, we would have been absolutely soaked when we hit the bottom of the drop. As it was the front of DD's and my hair were wet, and a spot on the side of my thigh that I had not gotten the poncho over was drenched. What was funny was that there were people who had gotten in line behind us who I saw before we got on kind of looking at us funny and laughing at our ponchos. They got off the ride completely soaked and as they walked by us, the son pointed at us and said "We should have worn those!".

I sat on the right side of the flume and got SOAKED!!! Front row too..... Third row is the safest.

I think it really depends on where you sit. One time we rode in the second row and didn't get very wet at all. But we rode it the next day, ended up in the back row and got COMPLETELY SOAKED:scared1:. I think it really matters more where you sit.

I wouldn't think a poncho would help much. We didn't have them so I can't tell you, but judging by how wet we were, I don't think it would help. Well, it might if you don't like getting too soaked.

Have fun!
