Dh & I took the kids (DS8 & DD4) to see this movie today. Three out of four of us really enjoyed it. Wonderful animation, vey imaginative! The 2 hours flew by.

Parents, there is a reason why this movie suggests parental guidance and may not be suitable for all children. It is, after all, a movie about spirits. There are some characters that are very scarey. There are also some very intense scenes. The young boy in front of us (about 4 or 5) kept crying for his Mom to take him out. (they did leave) There were two other families who left the theatre with crying children.

My DD4 LOVED the movie. She is a strange child tho - at a young age she liked movies like Nightmare Before Christmas and Wizard of Oz. My (very) sensitive 8 year old was another story. He was very scared by a character called no-face. I won't spoil the plot, but there are a few intense scenes with him. DS sat with my jacket over his head saying that his stomach hurt and he wanted to go home. He did make it through the entire movie but has NO intention of ever watching it when we get in on DVD.

If you plan on seeing it you need to know what your child can handle. I thought DS would be ok but I was wrong. (He doesn't like anything scarey) There were a group of 6 and 7 year old boys in the theatre for a birthday party. I could tell that some of them were scared but didn't know what to say or do since they were guests and not with their own families.

I really liked it a lot, but do take care if you take your children. DS will probably have nightmares tomight... :(

DH and I loved it!

I really like Spirited Away. Actually I LOVE all Miyasaki's animation. I practically grew up with similiar series. I think Spirited Away is slightly too adult for young kids (4-7 yr). I don't think they'll get the message behind it.

If you like Spirited Away, you should rent Totoro, Castle in the Sky and Kiki Delivery Service. Totoro is very kid-friendly and cute. Most of Miyasaki's animation are about saving the environment, and have deeper meaning than regular cartoons.
