Spin off pizza "discussion"

I think I'm the only person who even recognizes California style pizza. I love NY and visit all the time--the pizza is good for what it is, but the toppings are boring. Nothing like fruits and vegetables on a pizza--love me some roasted asparagus or fig sauce. You don't get that on a NYC pizza, and it's best not to even ask.

Now we've strayed into salad territory again. ;)

Bacon, potato & sweet onion with baked egg garnish at Joe Bastianich & Mario Batali's Pizzeria Mozza in LA. I know, I know - pizza purists are rolling their eyes right now but seriously, this pizza had DH and I looking at each other and saying "Holy **** - is this what food is supposed to taste like!?!" :scared1: We'll likely never have the opportunity to eat there again but it was definitely an experience (and a pizza) against which all future meals are measured.

I think it looks delicious.

Do the pineapples on a Hawaiian pizza count? :)

My wife loves Hawaiian pizza and that's the closest I've come to asparagus and figs.

Don't tell a Hawaiian that pineapple on a pizza makes it Hawaiian. I found one place in Honolulu that calls a pineapple and ham pizza the "Haole". I think they're trying to say something about who orders it.

Omg. I am stuck in the Midwest and haven't had decent pizza in forever. People here are into this weird cracker crust pizza and everyone loves gas station pizza and "Pizza Ranch," It is depressing for a pizza enthsiast.

That looks so awesome. If I show my husband (who is from back East) he might cry.

I have had pizza in many places and I think Midwest pizza is the best. Ordered 8 of them.this weekend, as a matter of fact.

Pizza Ranch...my kids love the chicken. I love the BLT pizza. Everything else is eh.

My favorite is Little Oven on Saint Paul's east side. But Savoy and Angelo's are divine, too. stcloud-best-pizza.jpg

So which gas station pizza is your favorite? Do they do that there?

When we first moved here everyone kept telling me about the great pizza from Casey's and I'm like...I can't find a Casey's restaurant. Finally went to my kids school and they are having a pizza party and have Caseys. Turns out Casey's is the gas station. They all love the gas station pizza. So much that since we moved here the gas station started delivering pizzas. Well now Kum & Go is selling pizzas too, and QT (QuikTrip). They are all competing. I finally tasted Casey's. It is sad that this is what pizza aspires to be here.

I can't find a pic but here in Upstate NY there is a thing called "Tomato Pie". It's cold pizza sans mozzarella cheese but sprinkled with parm(yeah yeah I can't spell the whole word). The crust and sauce have to be delicious for it to be right but when it is... OMG.

I can't say I have ever had gas station pizza. At least not sober? I have seen a few Casey's, but never been in one. That kinda gags me, honestly! :)
