Is it possible in the MK to do a special balloon release? As I've mentioned before, we lost our son (stepson to me, but like my own) nearly 2 weeks ago.

Someone on another thread mentioned a balloon release in his honor, and I was just wondering if it's possible to personalize it, such as writing his name on the balloon, or adding a tag to the string before it is released.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this being done? We don't expect a grand ceremony on Main Street or anything like that, just something the 4 of us can do in his honor and memory/

We do this every year in honor of my Best Friend's only son and daughter. She lost them a month apart one to cancer and one to a motorcycle wreck. We do not do it at MK. However, I can not image that letting 4 balloons go in the park would be any big deal.

I think that sounds sweet. I would buy a a few Mickey Balloons and find a spot that I wanted to release them. Oh, ya know, If you decide to do it on Main Street, find a photopass person to take a picture of it.

Great idea! I love it!

I think thats a sweet idea. Have you thought about possibly purchasing something that you can take home with you in your sons memory as well? Just a thought - you could start a collection of every time you go, you add to it.

The balloon release sounds like a wonderful idea, and I love the idea of getting a photo of it at the same time.

My thoughts are with you and your family and loved ones.

That sounds like such a sweet tribute. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

1) Disney does not allow such.
2) Or do they do it for a fee.
3) Because
. . . it is littering
. . . think of the mess if there were hundreds of requests
. . . they might get caught in Castle or other buildings (how does one retreive them)
. . . balloons might land in AK and hurt the animals

Do you have evidence of either 1 or 2? Or is this just a way to add weight to your opinions on the practice as listed in 3?

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. Although I haven't lost a child, I suddenly lost my DH in March and am still lost. I cannot imagine your pain. God Bless.:grouphug:

But if 4 people bought a balloon and released it at the same time...I mean..what can Disney do?

I didn't say guests can't do it.
(Heck, guests do all kinds of things... )

I was just stating the fact that Disney intentionally formally stopped doing balloon releases... which they USED to do very often.

Don't release mylar balloons because they can get tangled in power lines and cause problems. They don't degrade and animals can eat them and choke.

You need to make sure they are 100% latex biodegradeable balloons.

I'm sure lots of kids lose their balloons each day, nobody would probably even notice a few more going up.

When in doubt, go to the experts, Disney themselves. They said it's fine and to even personalize it isn't a problem :)

Some places have made it illegal to intentionally release balloons because of the impact on the environment. Regular latex balloons (not the biodegradable ones) can be eaten by wildlife or cause litter problems, Mylar balloons cause a whole host of problems. Now, how they're going to know that your balloons are intentionally released or not is a whole other issue. I have no idea if it is legal at Disney or not.

Edited to add... I just saw your last post. Glad you can do it there.
