Special balloon release?

Just my 2 cents...however I think this is a beautiful idea to honor your son...also to the neighsayers I have purchased many a balloon i the parks for $10+ only to have them come untied and lost....it wasn't done on purpose but it was released none the less...not to mention how many of the actual cast members that sell the balloons have accidentally released them when handing them to a guest...it's part of having balloons and selling them....I am a former castmember and never heard of anything like telling a guest they couldn't release a balloon.

Be that as it may according to a Front desk manager and GS at MK, Disney does not allow balloon releases on property.

I don't know if the OP is looking for something "official" or formal that Disney will help coordinate (which, several posters who apparently should know, have said is not done anymore) or just wants to purchase balloons, write her son's name on them and let them go. No reason why she can't buy her own balloons and release them that I can see, if it's a couple of balloons and not a whole bunch. If there is concern about environmental impact she might also consider just one balloon, and doing it quietly. I have to say I don't know why it has to be multiple balloons.

There are so many more harmful things to the environment than 2 or 4 balloons. Go for it and remember your loved ones. She's not hurting anyone with the way she chooses to deal with her loss.

I did see you were going to WDW for a Tamburitzan show of some and some one asked what a Tamburitzans was.

I really couldn't find any other Tamburitzans except that are part of the Duquesne Tamburitzans from Pittsburgh that know.

The only other reference I could find for Tamburitzans was this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamburica.

So are there other Tamburitzans and its part of some gathering or are you doing a performance like other dance groups do?

Most of the Tamburitza groups attending Festival are from the Pittsburgh area, which I'm sure you know was heavily settled by eastern Europeans - Polish, Slovak, etc. There is however a group attending from Seattle Washington! These are Junior Tamburitzan groups, made up of children 5-18. If they work hard and are dedicated, they can try out for the Duquesne Tamburitzans and get a full 4-year scholarship to Duquesne Univ. (which would save a nice chunk of money from our pockets!:lmao:)

My dd15 loves the group and does really well with them. I think she has set her sight on that scholarship.....

Not to go off topic, but I just noticed you're from the 'burgh. Whereabouts? I'm near Irwin, just outside of Monroeville and used to work in Bethel Park

OP I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine. I don't have much to say on the releasing of balloons, but now I'm curious about the Tamburitzans too. My family used to go see them all the time when I was a kid-I'm from north of the 'burgh :)

I think it is a sweet idea and would be a nice remembrance for your stepson. I am blown away by the insensitivity of so many of the people who have responded to this post. Ridiculous. So, should I assume that none of those responders drive a car, because that would be purposely releasing dangerous chemical pollutants into the atmosphere. Which would be incredibly irresponsible according to them, no?

Find a beautiful, quiet spot. Write messages to your stepson on your balloons, if you like. Grab a photopass photographer or even a friendly fellow-guest willing to snap a few pictures. And create a memory your family will remember forever.

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am sorry to hear about your loss.
